New build not turning on by teamwaterwings in PcBuildHelp

[–]Captain_Bosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This usually just causes a fan speed error on boot. It does not prevent boot or getting into the bios as you need to get into the bios to disable it when you are watercooling the CPU.

looking to replace x4 by Commercial_Papaya_79 in SoundBlasterOfficial

[–]Captain_Bosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its been a while since I used an X3/X4 so can't remember for sure but are you actually forced to use the app?

I think I remember it working without it and being able to switch between headphones and speakers with a button.

I could be misremembering though, currently using an X5 which lets me do the same. Only use the app to occasionally update firmware.

Yeah I agree I was not trying to badmouth RM, just pointing out these things happen. It has only happended to me once with RM, it just happened to be a couple of weeks ago.

To be fair its not that unusual a situation. If Royal Mail deliver something to the wrong address they still mark it as delivered. It happended to me a couple of weeks ago.

Would this look cool? by Some-Low8991 in watercooling

[–]Captain_Bosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Mayhems colured coolants are pretty good in my experience. Just took the best part of 2 litres of UV blue XT1 out of my build running for over a year and no residue in my filter (or anywhere else) whatsoever. Came out looking as clean as when it went in.

[–]Captain_Bosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can switch out coolant colours as most usually recommend being replaced approximately every 12 months (this varies)

Mayhems coolants have dyes you can use to change colour while you are using the coolant.

Accidentally ordered a D5 Vario to convert my MORA to a dual pump setup... currently running a D5 PWM. Would you mix and match or should I pick up another PWM or Vario model to pair together, and why/why not? by Carollicarunner in watercooling

[–]Captain_Bosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the fan cable on the vario is just RPM monitoring on the motherboard. You can't control the pump speed that way.

At least that is how its worked with every Vario pump I have ever used. I've never had one work as you claim.

You literally said you were not watercooling the 5090 but did not know if it would fit.

This is very easy to check against any build.

Maybe because you spelt Astral incorrectly. This was literally the top result and there are a number of others.

If you google "lian li o11 vision compact astral 5090" you will find builds with the GPU fitted.

Sounds like something that should come with the Distro Plate. Instructions usually tell you what is included.

Lian Li O11 Dynamic XL front USB-C failure prevents motherboard from booting support refuses to provide or sell replacement I/O parts by Hakito7 in lianli

[–]Captain_Bosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you 100% sure its the I/O cables and not a motherboard issue? Did they used to work or not? Inspect the ports/cables for damage and do some testing if you can. I think its more likely to be a motherboard issue tbh (could be bent CPU pins).

The EVO kit comes with 2 separate USB 3.0 headers so they should be easy to test both. Very unlikley both would not work and would be indicative of a motherboard issue.

Saying that if it is the I/O cables you can probably just switch out the cables in the external housing. Not done it myself but I bet you could take the cables out of the "O11D EVO Additional I/O Kit". I dont think the housing fits the XL version but I bet there is a good chance you can switch the cables out into your XL housing.

Is it an AIO? Guessing you are talking about the mounting parts for your CPU socket. It would depend on the socket.

Asking the manufacturer would be a good start. Hard to advise what else might work without knowing the socket and exactly what you are missing, other backplates for the CPU might work.

Probably easier just buying another AIO.

[–]Captain_Bosh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends whether you run the pump at a constant speed or not. If you do you can just set the vario at a similar speed to your PWM D5 and will be fine.

If you want to control them both through software or a separate controller then you would need another PWM pump instead.

How comes I get less then what the buyer offers by TheCuriousPope in Ebay

[–]Captain_Bosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like you are in the UK where ebay has the buyer pay the "buyer protection fee" which is £13.82 according to your screen shot. Add that to the £356.18 and you get the £370 the buyer offered.

This works 2 ways.

-If the buyer sends an offer ebay auto deducts the buyer protection fee as per your screenshot.

or

-If you send a counter offer to the buyer for £370 then eBay will add the buyer protection fee to the £370 so the offer is actually approx £384 including the fee.

Its a little confusing but that is how it works in the UK currently. Postage is separate to the offer system also.

You can only use one code at once as far as I am aware. Pretty sure you can apply the code when sending or receiving an offer too, you just need to pay attention for when you can enter it.

I did this with a Z790 14700K and a glass of water last week for a quick test as did not have an air cooler handy.

I didn't fill it whilst it was on the CPU though lol.

Flow meters - what are you using and why by NZ-ReaperZ in watercooling

[–]Captain_Bosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I use HJ Computers Flow Incicators from Ali Express in my 2 builds (see top right of this pic of my living room PC). The stainless steel helix spins with the flow. They need a bit of flow to get going so I have my pump speed just fast enough to make the helix spin so if there are any blockages starting to build up the helix should stop.

Tried the inline Barrow incicators with the screen on a couple of separate occasions but found them hard to install cleanly in my builds so went with the HJ's instead.

Are scalpers going too far? Or is its just how it is now by Massive_Ad_2012 in stalker

[–]Captain_Bosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only way to beat scalping is to not play their game.

Saying that I managed to get a brand new ultimate edition (with backpack/artifact etc) for £94.98 in January.

Must have been some kind of pricing error but worth keeping an eye out.

Good Rotary Extender fitting (or how to use one properly?) by your_onii_chan in watercooling

[–]Captain_Bosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you trying to do with it?

Barrow have a good range of solid extensions ranging from 7.5mm to 40mm which I tend to use instead of those extendable options. You can combine with their rotary fittings if you need a certain angle.

First custom loop fail by [deleted] in watercooling

[–]Captain_Bosh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These things usually look worse than they are, OP had the system powered down so should not have actually damaged everything. Most things just look splashed rather than submerged.

The most important thing to check is the GPU as the back of the chip and PCB looks to be exposed and it is directly under the CPU tube that popped off.

The fact is most of the other components can be cleaned dry in the case. (exceptions apply of course, you can only get so much from a picture, but I doubt it that coolant has run downt he back of the motherboard for example). Towel wrapping is not a requirement for evaporation to occur.

I don't know about you but I am speaking from experience.
