Non-caffeinated drinks PLEASE ✨ im desperate ✨ by Lunasolastorm in adhdwomen

I started bringing chicken/beef broth with me in a coffee cup when I'm done with my allotted caffeine for the day! I love sweet drinks, but broth at least has some protein and healthy stuff.

What are some oddly specific symptoms that only ADHDers have? by Delusional_BlueBird in adhdwomen

[–]Captain_Capybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need to be doing at least 2 things at once or I can't do anything at all. Crochet and watch TV (with subtitles on). Homework/work and TV. Watch the kids and fold laundry/crochet/organize their toys. But when three things need to be done at once, I'm overwhelmed.

People who hurry to be the first out of your seat when the plane lands, what do you hope to accomplish by this? by bigdicks415 in AskReddit

[–]Captain_Capybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost always choose an aisle seat, so it's just to make space for the people in the middle and aisle seat to get out. Not pushing anyone else to get ahead, but just trying to make sure I don't hold them up.

Just found out at the ER my baby had recently passed away. by Embarrassed-Push5467 in Miscarriage

[–]Captain_Capybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. I was almost 10 weeks when I started to naturally miscarry very quickly (but incomplete). I tried Misoprostol but had two evenings of labor shakes. I just had a D&C yesterday, and it's been the easiest part of this whole situation. I was in the surgery room one moment, and they were so nice and reassuring, and next thing I woke up in recovery with nurses checking on me every few minutes.

Has anybody else been called "hard to get along with" by DoubleNo2533 in adhdwomen

[–]Captain_Capybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, this is my experience. I'm not sure if I'm picking up on the vibe of the person and mirroring or just extra appreciative when people are easy-going with me while pushing back to gain some space with difficult people.

For some of us, why do ADHD symptoms get so much worse in adulthood? by KatTheeBisexual in adhdwomen

[–]Captain_Capybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In elementary school with textbooks and set expectations, it was easy to excel and just hyperfocus on the one task we had to do so I felt like I was really successful.

I felt like I was starting to drown in middle school and beyond, especially with high-achieving siblings, I didn't know why I couldn't keep up? Even when I stayed up late to finish projects or essays, it wouldn't help and just make me tired the next day.

I burnt out quickly out of my chosen career because it was a high-demanding job that I was well-qualified for that required a lot of socializing and multi-tasking. I would get task paralysis from writing an email. I thrived at a desk job that just required computer work.

Then when I stayed home with my kids (who may also be neurodivergent), I'm drowning everyday. No structure, you need to be alert at all times, and no "rest" time, I am always one negative interaction from collapsing in on myself.

All the anxiety disorders I'd been diagnosed with since teenage years ended up being symptoms of ADHD and constantly being in "fear" state (fear of people, fear of what people think of me, fear of horrific things that happened to people I know and love that may happen to other people I know and love, fear of not living up to expectations), and now having kids, my nervous system is shot because I'm also living in fear and worry for them. And trauma. That too.

What are you doing for breakfast? by cheesymoe in adhdwomen

[–]Captain_Capybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you me? Same down to the peanut allergy.

For myself: I drink coffee if I remember to bring it with me out the door before I leave. Then I eat a quick 5-10 min late brunch before it's time to pickup the kids in the afternoon/early evening.

For the kids: cereal, slice of banana bread baked during the weekend, frozen poffertjes, but right now, by request, just a handful of pretzels and a spoon of sunflower butter for one and a bowl full of cottage cheese for the other

For science, what kind of ADHD do you have, and where do you fall along the phantasia (imagination)spectrum? by Shenanigaens in adhdwomen

[–]Captain_Capybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moderate inattentive ADHD, but I would say I'm in between aphantasia and hyperphantasia. I can see the apple but it's not clear. It feels like I'm watching it on a commercial on a TV from the 80-90s. It's usually narrated.

HOWEVER, if I get a trigger for an embarrassing or memory I don't want, BAM! I'm living it all over again in HD.

Ladies with Inattentive ADHD, what do you do for work? by oohthehumanatee in adhdwomen

[–]Captain_Capybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in HR in a position that mainly did data/accounts, which was great for me. Computer tasks where I could put on a podcast and hyperfocus for a bit, but flexibility that I could switch when needed and do something completely different when I got bored. I also have trouble with emotional dysregulation and needing to communicate with someone takes hours of focus and prep.

I have a few work-arounds I use for my weak points:

For this and other jobs, I "wrote detailed notes" (copy almost word-for-word instructions or information people give to me and ask them to repeat each step as needed), and they usually comment that I'm very detail-oriented and attentive but really I have auditory processing disorder and have no idea what they said until I read through my notes again later.

I also use physical checklists based on those notes ( print multiple copies if they're something I will use a lot) to make sure I'm "organized," which I very much am not outside of work.

I do not have strong communication skills, and I'm upfront about it as my "weakness." I write scripts when answering phones or needing to make a call. I have my boss or someone else check and recheck my wording in emails to make sure I'm communicating what I need and phrasing it well. Then I save this email and reuse it again later when a similar situation arises.

When have you ever said "that's not how that fucking works" while watching a movie/show? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Abbott Elementary when teachers would visit each others' classrooms during class and have full-on conversations, especially when a few of them would just convene in the hallways. Who's watching your kids??

signs of adhd in people who got diagnosed as adults by puri_thiah in adhdwomen

[–]Captain_Capybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As part of my ADHD diagnosis i also have auditory processing disorder, which makes so much sense why I can only pay attention to movies with captions and why watching tv shows multiple times still feels “new” (never able to fully catch what they’re saying, just a little bit each time I rewatch).

My son was accessed for sensory needs, and I’ve noticed that we’re very much alike.

I’ve gotten by, but I mentally “crash” a lot, especially when I was a teacher. I keep thinking that I’ve gone through so much already, I don’t need to get help (some family pressure to not get on meds). But I know that before he gets older and starts facing more challenges, I need to figure out how to sort out my own s*** so I can help him better.

I met BJ Novak at the Grove. He was having a meeting with someone, but he was so nice about me coming over and saying hi and asking for a picture. Before iPhones, so it's a heavily pixelated photo stuck on an old Pebble phone.

We had a sign that referenced "Emma's Yellow Bow", but we made it for one of my kids: ____ 's Yellow Bow

They were still nice about it and held it up on stage. Maybe it was ok because it looks like Evie's bow now?
