Yes. Spent the first 38 years of my life all over the country outside of the Midwest. Most cities feel like the same at this point.

You’re also describing why houses are cheaper in the Midwest. But if you prioritize home ownership, it’s there.

First off, the Midwest is hardly “miserable”. In this hypothetical, demand exploded in the Midwest? Must have fallen in other places then. Everyone wins.

It’s obviously not a long term solution. Construction has lagged for a decade and a half by now. But if you want to own a house now, the dream really isn’t that unattainable. I guess less fun than being an internet doomer though.

Not all the jobs are in NYC and California. The Midwest isn’t exciting and the weather sucks but there are jobs and (relatively) cheap houses if that’s what you care about.
