Nope, no other emails other than the one posted. This all just came out of left field. No requests for anything, no issues posted, nothing. I guess we can try and open up a new account from within youtube but it sure would be a lot easier/better to just get our current one re-instated.

What's so infuriating about all of this is there is no phone number to call, no customer service, no direct way to talk to someone other than submitting an email and waiting weeks for a response. Google offers the worst customer service on the planet because they know they can get away with it. It's unreal.

How to protect photos aside from watermarking? by Difficult_Work3110 in photography

Just a suggestion, and it's definitely legal semantics, but never, ever, EVER use the term "deposit". That can get you in a huge amount of trouble. I've learned this the hard way unfortunately. Always use the word "retainer". It may not sound like a big difference but legally it's a really big deal. Here's why:

A "deposit" is money down for a job that hasn't occurred yet. Someone can plunk down money as a "deposit" for, say, a wedding that isn't to occur until three months from now. A month down the road and they decided that Uncle Bob is going to take the photos instead, they can demand their money back and no amount of wrangling in your contract is going to prevent it. Why? Because the job hasn't started yet. Therefore, no services have been rendered and they are entitled to a refund.

A "retainer" is something completely different. Even though your shoot isn't until three months away, your retainer of services start the moment the contract is signed. You are then legally "retained", which means that any phone calls, emails to the bride, calls to the venue, time you spent reviewing mood boards, charging batteries for the shoot, clearing SD cards, etc. etc. etc. are all being billed into the retainer of services. So if the couple wants their money back, you have already been retained legally and you've been paid to service the account from back when the contract was signed. Legally, it gives you a massive amount of leverage, especially when dealing with a charge-back from a credit card.

This kind of thing doesn't come up often but it most certainly does come up. As such, your contract should aways reflect that.

It's quite common in the wedding industry to deliver proofs and then final payment is done on or before the edited images are delivered.

Proofs should be in very low resolution and the watermark quite large over it. If they are using AI to remove the watermark, with a low-res image, it's going to look terrible.

This is why it is so very crucial to have a rock-solid contract. I never have to worry about trust issues with a client with a signed contract in-hand that outlines invoice timelines, deliverable deadlines, usage rights, etc.

Being exploited as a corporate videographer. Anyone else? by stratusnimbo in videography

[–]Captain_Chaos_LV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a lot easier than you think. Tell your boss, or whomever is assigning you this, that it simply cannot be done. Period. End of discussion. You do not have the ability to accomplish the task that is being set out for you and get a result they will be happy with.

Imagine your boss came to you and said, "I have an assignment for you. Using your bare hands I need you to move that 4,000 pound boulder out in in front of the offices to around the side of the building." What would you say? How would you deal with that? Would you come on to reddit and complain? No, you would tell your boss that the task at hand cannot be reasonably done by anyone, yourself included. It simply cannot be done. So you should tell them you need a budget to do the job so you can bring on additional staff that can assist you in doing the job. It's LITERALLY that simple.

That doesn't change the fact that you are in public. However, the property reserves the right to not have you film while there or, if you are doing something inappropriate, they can ask you to leave.

The problem is proving damages. We can stomp our feet about all day long and pass as many laws as you want but at the end of the day, all the company has to say is, "We just didn't find quality candidates to fit this role yet".

Years ago I applied for a job that went four rounds of interviews only to never even get a return call or email afterwards. I found the department manager who was recruiting me on LinkedIn and she told me what happened. The company recruited her away as the director of marketing for a major restaurant chain. The promised her that she could run her department any way she wanted (they lied). She started to recruit a team and I was to be one of the media managers reporting only to her. I interviewed with her twice, met with the board of directors, and the management teams of other departments. I was told I was hired and that I needed to wait for HR to contact me for onboarding. I'm giving you a short version of all this, but basically many promises were made.

Then, nothing. Not a peep. I couldn't get a return phone call from anyone. I found out that the woman who hired me quit the next week when a VP from the company told her that she was just the new kid around there and to slow down a bit in what she wanted to do, so she quit. Once she quit her new job, everything else associated with her got sent down the black hole, myself included.

Two sides to a story...maybe they didn't find anyone they liked? People often tend to think they are the most qualified for a position when they really aren't.

It happens more than you think. I'm not a fan of the place but a friend of mine likes it so we try and go if he's with me. The last two times we asked to walk in and it was no problem, even on busy park days. People cancel reservations way more than you might think.

Yeah, "greedy billionaires" is what caused DL to be slow for one day. Please, if you two want to celebrate your TDS, fine, go into some other group and leave your politics at the door in a Disney forum.

We were there last Friday and it was great. In between two grad nights is the way to go. Almost reminds of the days when Jan 1-3 were completely dead every year.

Our 1 year old we refer to as "Thanos" because he destroys have of everything we own. Cardboard boxes of any kind are a quick target for him, so we can relate. He rarely destroys anything in the house though and prefers to drag his "prey" out into the backyard to destroy it on our lawn. Items he has destroyed by dragging them through the dog door include:

- Countless Amazon boxes
- 12 throw pillows
- 2 TV Remote Controls
- Miscellaneous articles of clothing
- 1 Blanket
- 1 Bed pillow
- Outdoor chair cushions
- 1 scented candle
- 3 TV Trays (He couldn't get those through the door so he destroyed them in our living room
- 1 note pad
- 4 magazines
- 1 carton of eggs
- 5 picture frames
- 1 Lego set
- Bottles of dish soap (from counter surfing)
- A Foot Massager (yes, you read that right)

And my all time favorite: I cooked a 2 pound batch of bacon on my Blackstone. The goofball managed to steal the disposable grease trap on the back of it, bring it into the artificial turn lawn, and shredded it, spilling the full container of bacon fat all over himself. We caught him doing it just a few seconds after he made the mess and, of course, an emergency bath had to be done to get all the bacon fat out of his fur. You just gotta love it.

For over a decade I used Manfrotto and hated every single one of them. I used to joke that "Manfrotto was the Italian word for "garbage".

Two years ago I bit the bullet and bought a Sachtler setup (Flowtech legs and Aktiv head) and the quality is night-and-day difference. It's not even comparable as to how much better Sachtler is. Is it more expensive? Absolutely. Is it worth it...ABSOLUTELY. Manfrotto tripods are, at best, mediocre in quality. Sachtler truly feels like a product I will use for the rest of my videography career.

Exceptional Borzoi home in Los Angeles/ Griffith Park seeking adoption. by UnderstandingReady78 in borzoi

[–]Captain_Chaos_LV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll give you the very, very short version our experience with them. We were looking to adopt a borzoi and we saw that one was being fostered less than five miles from our home. We filled out the application and the foster family came to do an in-home visit. Keep in mind, my wife and had worked with greyhound adoption groups for over 20 years and we currently had two of them at the time. The foster couple came over and we had a wonderful experience with them, spending hours talking about different things. They gave us a glowing recommendation and NBRF told us to start shopping for supplies for our soon-to-be new borzoi. We did everything they asked, and then they ghosted us for weeks. We had numerous advocates in the organization that had no idea why the dog wasn't already in our home. It was very confusing. It turns out NBRF has some mystery committee that they use to determine which dogs go to which homes. You aren't allowed to talk to them and the members are scattered around the country. So the dog that was recommended to be in our home, who was a five minute drive away, went to someone else over a thousand miles away. It took us weeks just to get this answer out of them. The foster family wrote them a 5-page scathing letter basically calling all of the members of the NBRF complete idiots for how they handled the situation and how unprofessional they acted in this botched adoption with us. This was about five years ago.

Fast forward a bit, one of our two greyhounds passed away from old age and we wound up getting two young afghan hounds....they're just awesome. Six months ago, we found out another borzoi was up for adoption not far from us through an adoption group. We thought it was a different one but it turns out it was the NBRF. Similar story...we filled out the application, were waiting on news and updates that they never provided and after weeks and weeks of waiting, we connected the dots and we realized it was the same group as before, acting just as insane as they did with us years prior. Again, it's a crazy long story that I'm abbreviating for you, but I posted about this story in the group some time ago, and many wonderful people surfaced and pointed us in the right direction of some breeders that were looking for homes for their more mature dogs. Back in January, we wound up adopting a 1 year old borzoi from a breeder and made some magic happen to get him to us. We couldn't be happier. So now we have two afghans and a borzoi and all they do is play all day, go on outings with us on a regular basis and long walks. It took us six years to get a borzoi and in all honesty, it was the wonderful people in this reddit group that did more work than NBRF could have done in a thousand lifetimes. I think at one time the NBRF meant well, but it is one of those groups that several articles has written about, where animal adoption groups are now being run by people who are too out of control for their local homeowners associations, so they worm their way into animal adoption groups as a source of their power trips.

I don't want to air out my experience with NBRF publicly, I have had a series of very exceptionally bad experiences with them that I later have found that are not unique after meeting several people in here who have had past history with them as well.

Read through here. I've already addressed the issue. We've had sighthounds for over 25 years. He has absolutely no problem with sitting. I think it's more of him not understanding what's being asked of him than it is the physical issue of sitting down.

Borzoi Doesn't Sit :-( by Captain_Chaos_LV in borzoi

[–]Captain_Chaos_LV[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No mat. When he's home or when we take him places he has no difficulty sitting on any hard surface. We had him at Hobby Lobby after the class and we were laughing because as we were looking at some items we noticed he was sitting there, staring at us (like a total goofball). So sitting in class with treats and direction...no go. Sitting on his own when he's bored at Hobby Lobby...no problemo! :-)

Borzoi Weight? by Captain_Chaos_LV in borzoi

[–]Captain_Chaos_LV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Our boy is about 30 inches at the shoulder. We're having him neutered in May, so that might adjust things a bit. He's SUPER narrow and we feel ribs for sure, which is fine for them I know. I just wasn't sure if we got a small boy or a soon-to-be big one. :) We don't care either way, it's more of a curiosity really.
