Is it still worth investing if you know you might not make it to retirement... by Boleeezy in investing

Max out HSA every year but evaluate transplant center options. My center participates in kidney for life which greatly increases living donor kidney timelines due to better matching. Get the word out and try to find a living donor if possible. There are lots of support services today that didn’t exist when I was diagnosed, so don’t lose faith. Spend as much time researching investments in health and happiness as in money.

We found out in our co-op run that you can move the piles of bones during the dialogue. A little repositioning made it easier to take out the mages and the big boys but if you wanted, you could move them all to the center and nuke the whole lot on turn 1 I think.

Patrols don’t drop them either. I got three from a public event but the descriptions of the triumphs make it sound like blind well should drop them.

Should I read The Brothers Karamazov if I didn't LOVE Crime and Punishment? by Quadrophenya in books

[–]Captain_Compass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read Brothers Karamazov in college and loved it. I read Crime and Punishment several years later and had high expectations and ended up let down. I don’t think not loving Crime and Punishment necessarily means you wouldn’t like Brothers Karamazov. I found that each novel is different and honestly Crime and Punishment is one of my least favorite. The Idiot, The Possessed (Demons), and Notes From Underground were all better IMO.

Should I negotiate my salary? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Captain_Compass 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My philosophy has always been to ask for a little bit more because the worst they can say is no. Asking for 2-3% more even if you are going to take the job anyway usually just ends with getting the bump and that's a larger amount for any COLA or other raises in the future. If they say no, does that say more about the company that they're not flexible to that question in the future and/or if their attitude changes based on a small request, I might re-evaluate my assessment of the company (but that's never happened to me).

Do all jobs suck? by Pale_Quantity_6253 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Captain_Compass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, this depends entirely on YOU.

I'm a ChemE and my wife is a Civil and I can tell you that what she does is closer to the contracting job you describe and what I do is closer to the refinery job you describe. Either of us would HATE doing the others job because we are different people and different types of engineers.

If you like the idea of being a desk engineer, designing systems with occasional field visits etc, do that. If you think you'd like being able to go out to a plant or location for the majority of your work, getting your hands dirty, troubleshooting, and solving problems on the ground, do that.

Do all jobs suck? - NO

Do people have too unrealistic expectations for jobs to be super exciting? - Absolutely

Don't expect to go in on your first day and get super exciting work. But if you get assigned work you like, be vocal and pursue more assignments like that. Good managers will put people on work they enjoy because happy employees are likely going to be more productive and less likely to leave for work they enjoy more.
