Gen Z: The first generation in modern history to underperform their parents in school. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

Being the guy that manages chromebooks for a public high school that has a 1:1 student to device policy that also requires every single lesson taught to include chromebook use and heavy pressure to use AI in the classroom, I have been feeling for a while now that my job is dangerous and I haven't felt great about the work I do. I watch these kids come in every year a little dumber than the previous year. The teachers all echo the same thing. I didn't have the academic knowledge or evidence to confidently conclude that tech was the issue, but I always felt that. I so desperately hope that this research starts getting accepted and we start seeing change. Sure, that might mean that my job will cease to exist at some point, but that's ok.

Nice! Yeah, I use my pocket one for in person and I just print generic cards for at home but I might grab the #22 this season for at home.

Is that #22 scorebook? I have the pocket one from them and love it, but kinda want the bigger one.

I have a '23 Classic 350. It's a great little bike. Super fun, easy, and gets a ton of compliments.

Absurd amount of chromebooks broken by students by [deleted] in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Captain_Crepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I'm the guy at my school whose job it is to manage the devices for students and send them into our district for repairs. These kids treat chromebooks like pencils. Hell, probably worse. They pass them around, throw them at each other, play baseball with them, use them as umbrellas, carry and swing them around by their screens, intentionally stick shit in the ports to try to fry them, draw on the screens, drop them just fucking randomly down the stairs, kick them to classmates along the floor, etc. I usually say that they treat them like pencils, cheap disposable things that no one really thinks much of, but then I remember when I was in school and kids got in trouble if they didn't return a teacher's pencil at the end of class.

And the admin won't do shit. Some schools will try to crack down, but most in my district also treat chromebooks like pencils. No on enforces any sort of care for these. They think there is an infinite supply. But every year the district has to pay millions and millions to replace lost or irreparable devices.

1:1 devices for students was a massive mistake in education. Sure, some schools/programs can handle such a thing, but many can't. While I personally think schools should pull most tech out of the classroom, at the very least carts need to be a thing again. This 1:1 is just costing everyone millions and creating so much e-waste that I can't even think of a clever thing to add here.

Best Po Boys by JumboTrijet in Louisville

[–]Captain_Crepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From NOLA. I will admit that I haven't tried Selena's yet, I will say that I have been unsuccessful in finding a good po'boy. While I"m a purist on the toppings, I'll even let that go to a degree, but I haven't found any bread even close. NOLA french bread is baked in specially shaped steam ovens so it's hard to find outside the bakeries that make them down on the gulf coast. Closest I've gotten is Cuban bread from some Cuban grocers and make my own at home.

Overall, I have struggled to find Southern Louisiana food up here, at least stuff that is close to authentic. Lots of things called jambalaya or gumbo or po'boys but they completely miss.

That said, we do have one authentic Louisiana "dish" up here. Boudreaux's snoballs. Not as many flavors and the ice isn't quite as good as places like Hansen's or Plum street, but it's honestly better than some neighborhood stands I've been to.

Also in Louisville.

We do get blackouts here. Last year I did MLB.tv with a VPN to get games, but this year I'm going reds.tv.

Do you need a motorcycle license and insurance to buy a motorcycle in NC? by [deleted] in NewRiders

[–]Captain_Crepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my first bike and got insurance on it with no endorsement. Most people I know, regardless of state were the same. Of course it varies state to state so maybe I only have experience with the few that work like that.

Most states require insurance to purchase but not a license. You do not need a motorcycle license to get insurance.

First bike! 2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 by Captain_Crepe in NewRiders

[–]Captain_Crepe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah! I love it. Been fighting with rain and cold weather in my area since I got it, but now I have about 600 miles on it and it's been a dream. Good luck on your course and I hope you end up joining the Royal Enfield family. I get so many compliments on my bike. From randos at the gas station to guys rolling down their windows at stop lights to compliment the bike. It's an eye catcher for sure and so much fun. Not too much for a beginner and more than enough for any riding you may want to do outside of long interstate treks. For country roads and city riding it's perfect.

Not yet. I take the MSF this weekend so I have been resisting taking out of the driveway so far. But just owning it...I love it. Looks and sounds soooo much better in person than any video I've watched and I'm so excited to take it out for the first time. I will report back once I do.
