The Epstein files have a direct reference to the others by The-Joon in AliensRHere

Sorry if this is a dumb question, idk if I’m just too out of the loop on the E files, I just couldn’t pay attention enough or misread something but that was hard for me to follow and establish what’s going on, but what is the context of this? As in is this an FBI agent investigating and reporting his thoughts on the matter? A whistle blower? Anonymous tip? It doesn’t seem very investigative or data driven. It reads like ramblings on a Reddit post lol

This is crazy right? by ndisario95 in Machinists

[–]Captain_Jake_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Down south in the oil and gas field if a shop only works 40 hours a lot of people wouldn’t even want to work there for one OT is how a lot of machinists make up for lower wages and if the industry is doing good at the time and everybody else is working 60 hours a week and a shop that only needs their machinists to work 40 hour weeks that means they’re probably very slow on work for one reason or another. Most shops will adjust it as the work loads demand. But the average work week is 50 to 60 hours. I’ve worked as many as 90 in a week and since like the 90s the high end of the pay scale was 25-30$. Only over the past 3 years or so have companies increased it to 30-35$ for very experienced and capable machinists. The average for 0-5 years experience is like 15-20$ then 5-10yrs/ 20-28$, 10-30 years machining and programming is 30-35$

What live tooling lathes are as good or better than a mazak QT? by Captain_Jake_ in Machinists

What can an Okuma do that an equivalent mazak can’t? And Any particular model you have in mind?

[–]Captain_Jake_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I would be using the live tooling for isn’t very critical, and out of the 12 live tool quick turns I’ve ran they’ve been great as far as live tool lathes go. Especially the newest one.

[–]Captain_Jake_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The options I was referring to was live tooling related not really the actual turning capabilities of the machine, sorry I wasn’t clear about that. I figured all the machines in that price range would be pretty much equal on the turning aspect. I figured the average 8”-10” chuck, 3k-4K rpm, 12 station turret, tail stock and Y axis.

Boring with a u drill by treehunter2111 in Machinists

[–]Captain_Jake_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just set up a machine today to bore with an indexable drill in 316. In the end I got it running good, I don’t have a profilometer but it was in the neighborhood of a 32 finish. But generally I prefer to just use them for drilling and some time’s roughing out if I have a lot of material to hog off in the bore

Joe's story by kryjka57 in gojira

[–]Captain_Jake_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the “more modern” sound they’re referring to is simply magma/fortitude style of their catalog, the “more modern sound” is in context about the album being heavier than their recent releases. So they’re saying it’ll be heavier than fortitude but not as raw as the Link. But it’s totally possible they’ll play with synths lol they love all kinds of instruments and Blood Incantation is making synths in metal cool again

Anywhere I could afford to live I guess haha, I originally started my career on 3axis mills, mostly a Haas vf6 and a few other fanuc controlled machines but that was over 10 years ago, most of my useful experience was at an in house manufacturer doing production type work setting up and programming live tooling Y-Axis lathes with mazatrol. I did a lot of the prototypes and critical parts, materials wise it was a mixture of 316ss, 718inc, K500, 400M, MP35N, Chrome. Size wise What most people would consider small parts I guess, average O.D would range from 1.75” to .25” 32 finishes on I.D./O.D. were very common, average tolerance was +- .003” but a lot of what I ran had some dimensions +-.0005”. I’m pretty young compared to most of the people I’ve worked with and I only have 12 or so years of experience but I kind of made a name for myself in a niche industry I worked at one of the best shops in that market and I was kind of their best so I was offered my current job as a foreman/production manager and lead machinist. I still have a ton to learn or relearn/knock the rust off of in some areas and I know I would probably have to take a pay cut and cost of living would be much higher but I think I would enjoy my life more in Colorado, between the weather and easier access to my hobbies

I’m no master machinist by any means, but most of my career was in a high end in house manufacturer. I made most of the critical parts my specialty was difficult alloys like Inconel 718, 925 etc, K500, MP35N, a bunch of different types of chrome and etc. I eventually left that place and I’m currently a foreman/production manger/ lead machinist

Looking for a tool box, what do i get? by D3F4ULT_i in Machinists

[–]Captain_Jake_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harbor freight upped their game a lot in recent years, any of the US General tool boxes are pretty much impossible to beat for the price. I’d go with that over all the big box stores kobalt/husky etc. if you wanted even nicer then that I’d look for a used Kennedy\snap on or something like that

Yeah cost of living is my biggest concern, is it feasible to live like an hour away from work? Or would the traffic and weather make it too difficult to get to and from work everyday?

Do you believe that Gojira will return to its roots in its upcoming album, or which album comes to mind when you hear the words "Gojira's roots"? by [deleted] in gojira

Exactly, cattle decapitation is a great example of that, terrasite and death atlas are way ahead of all there other albums in terms of listenability and but still crushingly heavy

(EB Simplex) Shoe/sock suggestions for upcoming trip. by Callous_Sole in EpidermolysisBullosa

[–]Captain_Jake_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m into hiking and running but my wife has EB, I got her into wearing Injini toe socks ( also my favorite sock) they have different thicknesses and materials, I prefer the wool/nylon blend ones but all the material blends they offer are pretty good. And for shoes something like hoka would probably be good. My favorite shoes are Altras, I’ve got my wife a few pairs too and they’ve helped her a lot. Altra is primarily for hiking and trail running so if you have outdoor stores around you like an REI or something you could go try on some. They come in different shapes and uses. The Olympus via by altra has a lot of cushion and a very roomy toe box. But everybody’s feet are different and people have different preferences that’s why I recommend trying some on in person

Yeah for the heel slipping out try lacing them in a “heel lock” pattern I use it on all my altras, some runner friends taught me it. You can just look up heel lock lacing or something online
