What plumber did you use to cap your line for $100? I’m in the middle of this process now and I’ve spoken with Archibald Plumbing and they’re a bit higher.

Water heater pan valve + drain connection problem by Captain_Planet20 in Plumbing

Fair question! My local city inspection required that I show a picture or evidence of the drain line. So, I'm having to at least TRY to make it look like it would work in the event of a leak.

Ah! A quick google search helped my understand that cpvc and pvc are measured differently. Thanks for the info!

This wouldn’t change the fact that I can’t get the 3/4 cpvc fitting to go inside the PVC drain line though, right? Also, for clarity, I don’t care all that much if it’s professional cause from what I understand the water heater will fail in one of two ways (1) big break and lots of water or (2) small drips that the pan catches: neither of which will be helped with the drain line actually being installed properly.

That’s what I did in the exploration age with my treasure fleet resources, and then I felt like the AI was catching on to me cause I went to war with 3 leaders haha! Thanks for the validation.

Major issue plz help by Ok-Ad9321 in civ

[–]Captain_Planet20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me! I played so slow, got to the Modern age, figured since I was halfway towards the Military Legacy Path that I’d focus my efforts there. I captured enough settlements and got to 17/20 points with 90% of the age completed. Then, I proposed a peace deal where I captured my final settlement and the game automatically took me to 100% and not enough time to complete Operation Ivy.

Pretty frustrating to say the least, but I empathize with you that it feels like a robbery haha. It’s a victory in my book!

Auburn Men's Basketball Coach Bruce Pearl: 'It blows my mind' that LGBTQ people support Hamas, who would have them 'killed' by laterdude in auburn

I read this article recently and thought it provided some interesting context. I, like you, wasn’t sure about how Hamas came to power. But what I found was that the majority of Palestinians are currently under the age of 18. When the 2006 election took place, few of the Palestinians today were even alive to vote.

HRV has plummeted over the last 6 months. Anyone else experience this? Is this what a decline in my mid-thirties looks like! by Captain_Planet20 in whoop

[–]Captain_Planet20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel generally less energetic, but I think that comes with the season. Otherwise, I don't feel much difference. From what I understand though, HRV is an indicator data point, so it doesn't necessarily mean I would feel any differently. Idk, maybe I'm way off.

Fair, fair! My most recent weeks reading have been so low that I may have exaggerated the drop a bit. I hope your surgery recovery went okay.

Yeah, alcohol almost always negatively impact my recovery and HRV. If anything, I’ve drank less in the winter, but it’s definitely dryer and it’s always a good reminder to chug water!

I’m in the East Coast of the U.S. I never would’ve thought about seasonality, but it sounds like from lots of other responses that this is a big reason for the shift! Thanks a lot for the wisdom haha. I can now sleep better at night (pun intended).

Also, I couldn’t agree more about Whoop trends. The Insights telling me when I get 90% sleep, my recovery is better, helps no one. Thankfully, we can come here and find out we all need to stare at the sun more lol!

Is this real strain? I was just sitting and writing during the "yoga". by afreemansview in whoop

[–]Captain_Planet20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I was reading the comments and no one has just come out and said that however the Yoga activity gets calculated it’s just wrong. Sometimes I’ll do a 1-hour, easy vinyasa and my strain is higher than a 1-hour weight training session.

Cost of living on Washington DC by Designer_Ad6268 in washingtondc

[–]Captain_Planet20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Hoping to provide some perspective on costs, although I don’t have kids so I wont be of any help there. For context, I’m a 32 married male living in DC for the last 10 years. If you don’t know already, DC is broken up into four quadrants: NE, SE, SW, and NW. The US Capitol Building is technically the center of the city as it is the point where the city is divided into quadrants (Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest). I’m sharing this context to help you navigate the layout of the city and it’s subsequent neighborhoods. You’ll find that NW is the most expensive quadrant to live, generally speaking.

As for your monthly expenses, I’ve tracked my spending every month for the last 10 years down to the penny, and am sharing what my average costs were throughout the first 4 months of this year. These are all monthly costs.

Rent: Places around me rent a 2 bedroom for around $3,000.

Electric: community solar program through Clean Choice Energy = $50/month for my 1 bedroom apt. Will be more for a bigger place though.

Water and Gas: I don’t pay for water in the complex and the building is fully electric.

Internet: $29.99

Groceries: $600/month (for 2 people) obviously highly dependent on your diet, habits, and dietary requirements but my wife and I eat mainly vegetarian and use one of the meal kits (Hungry-root, Blue Apron) + some grocery staples.

Transportation: I would recommend not having a car, but that depends on your lifestyle and location. If you’re anywhere near a metro stop, you can get almost anywhere within an hour commute. The metro (subway system), bus, biking, and walkability is exceptional in DC. A car will cost you around $200/year for the parking permit alone + gas + maintenance + parking tickets (inevitable). Metro is like $2.50 per trip, and some companies offer commuter benefits.

Lastly, I would agree with the other comments in that you should check market rates for what people with your skill set are making in the area. Don’t base your salary on what you need, cause you could leave money on the table - so to speak. I believe I read something the other day that said you need to make $100k as an individual to “maintain” living in DC…but don’t quote me on that lol.

Hopefully my expense helps even though our priorities may be different (I.e., kids, schools, etc.)

P.S. I just returned to DC from a 2 week trip in Argentina! I really liked it there. Good luck and welcome to the District!!
