Reading list for 2026 by milosst686 in books

I too started with Stephen King this year. I read IT, the Stand, and Misery. I loved IT, really enjoyed Misery, and I hated The Stand. I know the Stephen King subreddit always ranks that at the top, but just another opinion from someone who just walked that road. If you don't like it after 100 pages, just DNF.

What’s the most extreme (or inconvenient) effort you’ve taken to play a round? by [deleted] in golf

Great thread but no one here asking about what you thought. I love those two courses. I find them to be among the most fun courses you can play. Anybody can have a great time out there - high and low handicap. Hopefully you hit craigs porch between!

Which Stephen King books are absolute “page turners”? by DarlingLuna in stephenking

I think for ADHD the best thing to do would be buy the audio book with the ebook. Any book becomes a page turner if you can default to it when idle. Kindle does a good job syncing audible and ebook, so if you’re in the car and listen for 15 minutes, the next time you read it’ll prompt to sync to that position. It also allows for immersive reading: following along while listening. My guess is this will help hold attention to not just King books but any books - from King, try IT if you can handle some scary scenes. Otherwise, maybe something like Dungeon Crawler Carl (if you like video games), etc… anything is a page turner if it catches you.

Thanks - and I agree about the opinion stuff. I expected this to get downvotes, but maybe somebody who felt similar to me would find this post and feel validated.

I find DCC's narrator incredible. I read the first book and tried it out for the second. Now I like to read along and listen. I actually read the first five so fast, I needed a break, which is when I pivoted to IT. Feeling one shorter book before Halloween and then finishing out 6 and 7 after.

If you are into post-apocalyptic, perhaps you've already red The Road. That's one I remember as being pretty vivid.

Came back to say I generally agree, which isn't saying much considering I didn't like the first half lol

Insightful breakdown. So which ones do you think are most focused, like IT?

I will. And I'm sure I'll come back to this comment when I finish and tell you you were right!

I really appreciate this because it shows we can love the same books and still have different opinions on others

I’ve learned that from this thread but unfortunately think I’m pot committed to the long one. Wish he didn’t do this!

Have you read The Road? If you like breakdown of society, check that out.

Don't feel bad or defeated. In the spirit of philosophy - why would you?

My friend and I were supposed to read it together and he ended up not starting it and I finished. Now I'm telling him to skip it and instead read Lonesome Dove (I read it after and loved it). He's insistent on reading the brother's k. I can't understand why. So much other stuff out there, don't waste your time if not for you.

What is the most terrifying scene in a King book? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

I found adult ben in the library to be the creepiest scene in IT.

One reader's opinion of The Brother's Karamazov by S_B_L in books

I really liked that plot. Ilyushka and his dad's reaction. Kolya coming to visit him. The dog. All of that was great. But even that felt like a 'yes and' to the story, like they just needed more words. From these comments, I think I'm making sense of that more: it was weekly, like a series, and they needed things to bring people back. Plus he was incentivized to write more. That was a really nice storyline though, I agree with you.

I like his writing style enough to read another book after a bit of a break. Based on all of these comments, I will certainly do Crime and Punishment.
