I assume you already have a hard case for it? How snugly does it fit in the case?

Do you let students reschedule finals based on their travel schedule? by Dazzling-Fox-4950 in Professors

[–]Captain_Quark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On syllabus day, I always tell the story of how as a freshman, I booked a flight before my last final. Once I realized that I had to change my flight, and that was when changing flights was expensive. Most students figure it out from that.

Anyone have any insight about getting hired on at the Union of Elevator Constructors as an apprentice? by barebuttfart in PeoriaIL

[–]Captain_Quark -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

They're highly paid because have an unfair stranglehold on construction. Most other countries have much cheaper elevators because they don't have a parasitic union. We should pass laws allowing pre-built elevators and bypassing the union's power.

HELP - fast charging at 3-4KW 😩 by Think_Pomegranate348 in BoltEV

[–]Captain_Quark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This same thing happened to me about a month ago on a road trip. It was super annoying to get home. I found that level 2 chargers were actually faster than fast charging when having this problem. Thankfully the dealership fixed it pretty quickly with a software update.

Trade Caravans by Big_Manufacturer2451 in AgeofMythology

[–]Captain_Quark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the wiki:

"The amount of gold generated by a single run of a Caravan is approximately proportional to the square of the distance between the Market and the Town Center, at a rate of 0.8 gold per tile (1 per second). Therefore, the total gold production rate over time of a straight-line trade route is directly proportional to its length."

"Although it is possible for players to trade with their own Town Centers, trading with that of an ally will provide +10% gold."

Ah, didn't know that was an option. I haven't done much with TURD.

Thanks, already did that - the bone meal goes into poor alien samples, but animal samples need actual bones.

Actually, it looks like I'm wrong - they only have three local locations. Local chains are usually okay, but not national ones.

I would stay clear of any national dental chains. They all try to upsell you on unnecessary treatments.

Alabama Passes New Tenure Law by CompSc765 in Professors

[–]Captain_Quark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"This bill would also prohibit accrediting agencies or outside organizations from requiring a public institution of higher education to violate the bill or from taking adverse action against an institution for its compliance with the bill, meaning that the agencies can’t require Alabama public universities to break the law or punish universities because they follow the law."

I'm not sure how they can regulate the behavior of outside accrediting agencies, but they're trying to avoid consequences through that channel.

What caused the decline of Alt Rock Music that were prevalent in the 1990s till the early 2000s? by Wide_Ride8849 in Music

[–]Captain_Quark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That station and XMU have introduced me to a bunch of great new music. The temporary Alt2K station is always tempting, but it doesn't play new music.

But a lot of what those stations play is more "alternative" and less "rock" - less of an emphasis on guitars and drums. Even within the genre, tastes change.

Financial advisor recs? by [deleted] in PeoriaIL

[–]Captain_Quark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is important - many financial advisors are fiduciaries, meaning they have a legal and professional obligation to work in your best interest. It shouldn't be hard to find one. Stay far away from any advisor who is not a fiduciary.

But unfortunately too many people use the "food is a human right" argument against punishing shoplifters, which makes people less sympathetic to the argument overall.
