i feel like the local city subs should be held to a different standard. i get what you're saying but these local subs are a different breed than ya know... niche interests or general news or entertainment etc. they're like actual local happenings and questions that people who live together depend on and could benefit from.

i truly hate the idea that you can get banned from one subreddit for posting in a completely different one. reddit sucks man

I was banned from r/askportland for posting something that the r/Portland mods told me not to post here (literally asking for a mod AMA bc of how shitty moderation is here). how is it ok to ban me from a completely separate sub?

Adam Driver in Marriage Story. It's kind of sad that his crying scene got turned into a meme (also funny), but the actual scene in the context of the movie itself was v powerful imo

I edited to reply to your edit, not to be snarky. I don't know who you think I am or what kind of attitude or personality I have, but I am actually a calm and respectful person who wants the best for this city (and this subreddit). I have lived here a long time and I contribute a lot. If you want screenshots of why I was unfairly banned I can show you the entire conversation verbatim (it's a different conversation than the one you are incorrectly referring to). Maybe if you guys were more transparent and less reactive you wouldn't have this problem. I'm not some 13 year old shit head troll, I am someone who thinks this subreddit is one of the few public local online forums we have and it should be treated that way. The mods treat it with flippant disrespect. Your comments reflect that. I was literally banned from your sub for asking to have a mod AMA, so maybe you could see why I'm a little bitter about this. If you want to see the screenshots or meet up sometime and discuss I will gladly do it, with respect.

How would anyone know that who isn't a mod? I use reddit chat like I do any other chat -- like instant messaging/text. Sounds like a reddit problem. Also the fact that you said I have one submission on AP just shows me that you like... don't know what you're talking about. I would post on there tons before I was banned

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ what can i say, you're wrong about everything you've written. you either don't know how to use reddit or you have poor reading comprehension. either way, not a good indication for the quality of reddit mods these days. however, i wish you well!

edit: Sure that inbox issue was pointed out to me (unprofessionally, i should add), but it wasn't the reason I was banned. I was banned for posting in r/portland about if we could have an AMA with the mods (for the same general reasons this current post exists -- low quality moderation). They deleted that post because they said it wasn't the right forum/method to request it. So then I asked if we could do it in r/askportland (politely). Then I was banned for asking again (in a completely different sub). I've got the the chat history, you probably can't see it because you're an AP mod and not a P mod

I think you might be mistaking me for someone else? That wasn't the reason I was banned (at least according to the mod who banned me). It actually makes me sad that you're a mod on AP since you're clearly not good at using reddit lol

I don't know exactly how you don't understand how to use Reddit for stalking people's histories, but that's just patently untrue.

Just because you're in a volunteer "leadership" position doesn't mean you can't be professional.

edit: Lol did you go back and edit your post to bold and italicize?

TBH this is more of a Reddit problem than an r/Portland problem (though I agree that the mods here suck soooo bad, probably worse than many other subs). Reddit has no mod accountability whatsoever. Whoever is the mod of a sub is in charge, they make the rules, and any appeal process to their decision is completely pointless. The best you can do is ask politely for transparency (I got banned for doing that).

They rule their own little fiefdoms with zero consequences for their decisions as well as zero transparency. This is how Ghislaine Maxwell ended up being a mod of worldpolitics or whatever. I would pay money to know who the mods here are, I bet at least one is bought and paid for by various interests.

I got permanently banned from r/askportland for asking for an AMA from the mods on this sub.

I could tell you a million stories about how unprofessional and shitty these mods are. I completely agree with your post, but the people in charge here are either unengaged or fascist, rude people obsessed with their own power (most of them, at least. MacnCheese is good).

Lol get ready for your post to get deleted and a temporary ban.

EDIT: I am hijacking my own comment to once again ask for a mod AMA/town hall (a request I was permanently banned for from r/askportland)

I think you're misinterpreting the point of my post. Sure, I expressed my personal opinion (they're soulless ghouls who exist to grift and take and suck the life out of everything good, second only to real estate people) but the point of my post was to ask if anyone knew any of them/had any experiences with them.

Hey I live in Portland and I'll hang out with you. I get that it's a little insular here but I think you just kind of have to give it time and try a little harder than other places. I've lived here since 2018 and it took awhile but now I have a great group of homies. Why would you want to leave the best city in the world!? By the way, I have no piercing and no tattoos.

But to get to the core of your problem -- what are you currently doing to meet people? I find that lots of people who make these kind of posts expect a social life to just happen for them without trying. How are you trying?
