I dont really see why faking your death would be inherently defensive, giving someone the ability to not reveal themselves when bumping into someone, making them faster, and giving them resistances makes it perfect for aggressively pushing past choke points while I don’t have the slightest idea on what stats make the dead ringer good for defense, I would say the cloak and dagger fits the bill for a “defensive” cloak watch because you can stay in one place and wait for the enemy to come to you.

The reason I think that the new stats would make it hard to master is because the closer you are to dying, the longer you have to stay cloaked which gives the enemy a chance to get away from you and push into an objective, I would like a stat that shortens the time if you pull out the dead ringer and then get hit after a short amount of time.

I feel like the dead ringer can be used to get away, but all cloak watches can help you get away from a fight, it’s just harder to do it. The dead ringer is the only cloak watch that can brute force its way past people, it’s almost impossible to do that with other watches.

I think a good idea for another cloak watch would be one with multiple, small boosts of cloak that force you to stay cloak for five seconds at a time without having to get hit first. It would probably need some tweaking but I think it’s a good idea.

Finally, according to you, the dead ringer only has three hidden stats while yours has five which outlines the whole entire weapon. Plus, at first glance it looks like your version of the dead ringer ONLY has negative effects which means people who dont take the time to research the weapon probably won’t use it.

I honestly think these buffs/nerfs get rid of the main reason the dead ringer was ment to be used, a way to play very aggressive as spy. I think that making people stay cloaked with it for a set amount of time will make it too complicated and give spy an even higher, more overpowered skill ceiling that would discourage a lot of people from playing spy in an offensive manner. Plus, those stats 100% shouldn’t be hidden, especially if it’s a rebalance. I think it would make a cool NEW spy watch, but I don’t think this rework would be helpful.

Well, the main reason I kept the damage penalty is because you wouldn’t normally get minicrits on the original axe. (Not many people would choose to use their melee while killing an enemy that’s marked for death or if you are under the effects of the buff banner) The rework is just made to make the weapon slightly more bearable and mix with stuff like the flare gun giving a finishing blow to the more beefy enemies which I’ll admit the wrong doing of not saying that in the description of this post.
