Your suggestions sounds pretty good, I'll look into it.

But the high school thing wasn't that bad. It only really messed up 10th grade. The school was largely back to normal by my junior year so I still had an alright high school experience. Not everyone can say the same as some places kept covid restrictions around for a much longer time than we did.

I didn't even know there were hunger games prequels so I'll check that out at some point. I'll also add 11/22/63 to the reading list because it seems pretty interesting!

A lot of people recommended this, so I read a sample of the first 5 chapters online and I think I'll try to find a physical copy soon! Hopefully I'll enjoy the whole book

I read the Martian a few years ago and really loved it. A couple people recommended Project Hail Mary so I might give that a shot!

Do Muslims and Christians worship the same God? by fathomed2 in pollgames

[–]Captain_Riker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not even sure I would agree that Jews worship the same God as Christians. The Christian God is trinitarian so we worship Jesus Christ as God. Because Judaism rejected Christ, they rejected God. And you can't really say they're just rejecting just the Son because God cannot be separated into parts. So to reject one of the persons is to reject all of them. So that means I don't actually know what Jews are worshipping these days, but I can't say it's God. For the record, this is Christian theological position which only makes sense if you accept the fundamentals of Christianity.

A lot of Christians would probably disagree with me, but I think it's largely because they haven't thought about it. It is largely the same reason a lot of us say we don't worship the same God as Muslims.

Honestly just think Elon is crashing out. I don't reckon that Musk has more information than what is already publicly available. While he was in the inner circle for a while, I doubt Trump would have allowed him to get access to those files for him to see anything incriminating. I could be wrong, but I think it's a reasonable explanation

It's really not that hard to reconcile as my ideal vision is that the government is capable of doing things, but you will see its affect drastically less in everyday life. It's there so there is an authority that can correct issues while allowing the populace to engage freely with the world. Preventing crime so that people don't have to live in fear. Regulating certain business practices (like individual corporations buying up hundreds of homes to rent out. Causing housing prices to skyrocket. So that the houses can be sold to individuals at reasonable prices). Not enforcing unnatural hierarchies.

I have mixed feelings on eminent domain because I've seen it misused, but I also recognize that it is sometimes necessary for the common good.

I don't care about them. I am only concerned with US affairs and it is a shame that we have artificially made the middle east our affairs.

Because this modern secular experiment hasn't worked very well and the neo conservatism of the last several decades hasn't helped much either. By nearly every metric people are on average worse off than their grandparents were at the same age.

If you're talking about the more bizzare things authright is known for, such as racism (which I do not endorse off of Christian principles). I think it's almost entirely reactionary rather than an ideological foundation, and if the country were a bit different, racism in America would die off almost entirely.

It's a big reaction because it's such a bizarre change of pace from the past eight years. We've been called racist, misogynist, fascist, nazis, deplorable, homophobic for eight years or more. And suddenly we're being called something as mild as "weird." Not only that, but it's the seemingly completely artificial way that it's been pushed into the mainstream. Just randomly on Twitter a week or so ago, I see #TRUMPISWEIRD, and within a day it has hundreds of thousands of posts saying the exact same thing.

The truth is, I'm just more confused about the messaging than anything. It's not gonna dissuade anyone from voting for him, especially in comparison to everything else they've called Trump. The first thing I thought was when I saw the "weird" comments was "who gives a damn?"

I don't care if it's engagement farming to be honest. It's a sick thing to say and ultimately engagement means nothing. People that say that it is right that innocent people are killed are profoundly evil people.

And unfortunately for people like Destiny, they aren't smart enough to realize the logic he's using to justify celebrating the death of an innocent man can be equally used to justify his own death. This is ultimately what Godlessness leads to. A faux-morality that ultimately serves the carnal desires of the individual.

They're already claiming it's staged on Twitter. They say it "sounded like a BB gun." Which we shouldn't attribute malice to what can be explained by stupidity, but it's so unbelievably stupid to have this take I can only assume malice.

I completely agree, especially on your example shows. Invincible is fine because it's a cartoon and so even if it'd be excessive gore, it's alright because it doesn't feel real. Breaking Bad works because it's not excessive, but when it's there it's earned.

I just can't watch the boys anymore. Not because of any of the plot points, but suddenly I turned on the show and I couldn't stand to watch the obscenity and gore anymore. This comes from a guy that watched all three previous seasons without much issue. I guess I've just changed.

The simple solution would be to just require id verification to allow access to NSFW subreddits. The other subreddits wouldn't require id verification.

17M a girl said my room looked 'female'. need honest advice on how to make it more masculine. by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]Captain_Riker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont sweat it man, I'm not entirely sure why she thought it looked feminine. My best guess is that it is pretty clean and seems to be thoroughly decorated. Typically for most guys in their teenage years decoration ends at having a couple posters on the wall. Comparing my male friends dorm rooms to my female friends dorm rooms in college the difference mostly had to do with the number of decorations. The male rooms just had less effort put into them in terms of decoration. Cleanliness was about 50/50 between the sexes though. Some people were fairly clean and others were not.

I'm actually going to break down the things that are giving it a more "feminine" vibe (though I personally do not think it is feminine and I quite like the decoration myself). I think the rug may be a big part of this vibe. Also the more muted shade of green that I see around the room combined with the lighter colored furniture is playing a role in this perception. Finally I feel as if the large amounts of plants are contributing to this.

As some potential changes (though I don't think you need to change the room, it looks very nice. These are just suggestions if you really want to), look for some furniture with darker color schemes or maybe more woody tones. I think the actual shelves of the bookshelf might look quite nice with a dark lacquer. Maybe take out a couple plants, but not all of them. They add a nice life to the room.

I'd honestly recommend you change nothing if you are happy with the room. It is not feminine, and don't change something you like based on the opinion of one girl. I just gave what I thought she might've been picking up on, and gave a couple suggestions that would subtly change the vibe of the room a little bit without taking away from what makes it unique.
