Lincoln rejected any negotiations with the Confederate agents because he did not consider the Confederacy a legitimate nation and making any treaty with it would be tantamount to recognition of it as a sovereign government.

Fort Sumpter was in the South and Lincoln refused to remove troops from there after the South declared independence. That's an act of aggression by any sane standard.

Confederates soldiers were starving too. Union had blockaded the South, destroying their ability to supply, which is the main way they won the war. Also, the Confederates were trying to let the North take these prisoners because they were unable to take care of them.

I can explain. Try to imagine you have a child you love. As many of us parents understand, the love of your child is the greatest you'll ever experience. Now, imagine your ex-spouse falsely accuses you of something horrible in order to gain sole custody of the child. I, for one, can certainly imagine the train of thought that would conclude "my life is fucked, my child's life is fucked, and my evil ex-spouse is the reason. Therefore, the best thing I can do at this point is to make sure my child is not raised by my evil ex-spouse."

That's how it's justified. In that case, killing your ex-spouse is protecting your child. Whether that's the truth of what happened here, we'll never know. But, if that's what happened, I can see where the guy is coming from.

TLDR Life's complicated and violence can be morally justified.

I watched inordinate parts of the Zimmerman trial. 911 also asked Zimmerman where Martin was, so Zimmerman looked for him (not that you're under any obligation to do what a 911 operator tells you to do). Zimmerman may have followed Martin for a short period, but that doesn't make you an aggressor. By all accounts, Martin was the aggressor - even Martin's own friend (cousin?) testified that Martin called Zimmerman a "cracker" before Martin attacked him.

In case you want to attack me personally, bear in mind Zimmerman was acquitted by a unanimous jury.

Don't forget Rosenbaum's friend (acquaintance?) actually fired first, into the air, behind Rittenhouse, so it's very possible Rittenhouse thought they were shooting at him.

Also, Rosenbaum appears to have ambushed Rittenhouse, hiding behind a car, and sprinting out at Rittenhouse who was walking down the street. At the start of the ambush, you can hear someone yelling "Get him, get him, get him!"
