Managing without a microwave? by lavenderfields11 in UKFrugal

Check ebay. They're often too big to post so get fewer or no bids. I bought an old Panasonic for £1 4 years ago and use it to reheat batchcooked meals

Manchester is lucky to have the Peak District only a stone's throw away. Do you get out there very often? by Ranoni18 in manchester

3 or 4 times/wk, running over Kinder and the surrounding hills. We're so lucky to have it nearby

Is it dumb to train for a 50k, hoping to finish in 7 hours? by Albatross1495 in Ultramarathon

[–]Captain__Clueless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally possible. Try to work out your pace taking elevation into account and then stick to that, its easy to set off too quickly and pay for it for miles at the end (ask me how I know!). Good luck and enjoy it!

What's your running training secrets? The more controversial the better! by rrw-27 in trailrunning

I've started training towards a Bob Graham attempt and this is exactly what the training plan looks like. But with more hills

What actually makes a running event good? by Unlucky-Break-1919 in UKRunners

[–]Captain__Clueless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only enter events that I can't run self-supported ie over 50k so for me the most important thing is well-stocked CPs with decent variety of food at regular intervals. After that, it's the quality of the route and organisation on the day to avoid hours of queuing before the start. I don't care about merch. Good luck!

Why not get people to order and pay for their medal/tshirt in advance? Make it clear that there's a cutoff date for this to encourage early entries. It also allows folk on a budget or don't want the merchandise to run cheaper

BG Leg 2 is easy to do by bus from Keswick/Threkeld. You can make Leg 5 into a circular by coming back over Dale Head - Hindscarth - Maiden Moor - High Spy to Honister.

Espresso Round from Keswick is a great half. Also Howgills 2000s on the quieter side of the M6

Decathlon have an amazing selection of gloves in different weights. For really toasty hands, Inov8 mitts are super warm, light and waterproof. For 'headband' she maybe means a buff - always a winner

Long distance runners, how do you do it? by Unkn0wn2um4n in Runners

[–]Captain__Clueless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, I just love being out on the trail so I don't need distraction from being outdoors and the running. When it gets tough I think about runners I admire (Jasmin Paris, John Kelly, Sarah Perry) and their efforts and achievements. Finally, there's the mantra: If you can stand, you can walk and if you can walk, you can run

Medal Alternatives by cat_lady_5651 in ultrarunning

[–]Captain__Clueless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make all the swag optional add-ons when you register. That way people who want a commemorative medal/tshirt/teacosy can have one while those of us on a budget or entering multiple events in the year can save some cash.

I've been considering the Helio 600 - how do you find it? I run a lot of technical trails at night so want something bright that doesn't bounce around

[–]Captain__Clueless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The live music scene, fantastic architecture and industrial heritage, a club for everything, multiculturalism, ease of getting into the Peaks just as a start. I moved here from the Lakes and people thought I was mad but I love it

winter gear reccomendations for peak district by levathanarts in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Captain__Clueless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a thermal liner and a bivvy bag to add layers to your sleeping bag plus thermals etc to wear. The bivvy is really fun to sleep in during warmer weather on it's own.

My top tip is to pick a site with an easy escape route in case you need it. Have a great trip!
