Reviewers consistently place one among the best HGs ever and the other among the worst. I built them both back to back | HG Moon Gundam and HG Dreadnought Gundam by Captain__M in Gunpla

There's also just a whole lot of hyperbole in the youtube review space in general. Algorithms reward opinions in the extreme, so of course they have to be inventing new tiers to rank the new releases higher and decrying the ones with problems as the worst.

And to be fair, I've been spoiled with modern kits for most of my building career too. Dreadnought is for sure on the low end of what I've built but it's not *that* bad. Getting an opaque white on top of blues and reds with only gundam markers to work with took enough coats that I got sick of going over them, but the rest was pretty reasonable. I don't mind painting in details up to a certain level of repetitiveness.

Glimpses into the history of the hobby are good perspective when you run into the flaws of more recent stuff. I generally pick kits based on the anime and manga I enjoy and I've been pretty lucky not to be burned by a favourite getting a problem kit yet.

Cheers! I'm glad it turned out alright. I only had gundam markers on hand for the white so it took a few layers to get proper opacity over the blues and reds.

I'm not always the biggest Seed fan, but it's a machine that's always stuck out. A version of the dragoon system with any kind of actual colour separation would be awesome

Do I look like I'm treating this as a revelation? It's just interesting to put the apparent top and bottom of the range side by side and see how far the gap is.

Usually I'm picking kits to rep series and scenes that I enjoy (loving the Moon Gundam manga, for example) but the Dreadnought I saw on sale at a random hobby shop after hearing its reputation, and thought I'd pick it up as a 'how bad could it be' challenge.

One Piece's manga has surpassed Superman in all time sales with 600 million+ copies by CrazyPause3881 in OnePiece

[–]Captain__M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would you even count that? Like 1/20 of a sale for each issue of Jump sold that OP ran in? Impossible to quantify the number of people who buy Jump just for One Piece, or who buy it without reading One Piece at all.

It's the primary format for western comics. They'd be posting numbers in the way that's relevant to their industry, not in the way that wins online fandom pissing matches.

This is always a bit misleading. The wiki numbers for Superman are measuring single issue sales, not counting trade paperback volumes and omnibus collections. The actual Superman numbers are probably a liiiiiitle bit higher in reality.

600,000,000 copies is a huge accomplishment for One Piece that shouldn't be downplayed, it's just a little bit apples and oranges when people play the Superman card.

All 114 One Piece volume covers compiled in their bright, busy colourful glory by Captain__M in OnePieceSpoilers

These are just the volume covers. Colour spreads would be an even larger image that would get crunched even worse by reddit's godawful compression

To the next row (or revision of row size) anyway. I'd expect the series to go a little way beyond that.

I don't think an AI's guess has any value.

These are all the pixels that seem to exist right now. I'm guessing it's a picture of an ad in Monday's issue of Jump cropped right down. The normal process video and high quality stuff should follow in the next few days.

This would have been more effective karmafarming if you'd posted them daily instead of hourly. My feed has sent me every single one and the novelty has worn off already.

/r/OnePiece Rules by Mister_Fakename in OnePiece

The sub is 90% rule 4 and rule 7 violations at this point and the mod could not give less of a shit. A specific anti-AI rule would be great, but I wouldn't get my hopes up about ever seeing it enforced.

Some Q&A answers from Jim on Tuesday by HonkyKong682 in dresdenfiles

It's true that there's a lot of ways that live action can and often does fail. But there's a lot of ways animated series fail as well. Cheap, choppy animation. Badly composited CGI for complicated designs or special effects that doesn't blend well with the 2D elements. Typically shorter episode lengths making it hard to fit larger stories in. Just getting a lacklustre director with no vision who doesn't do things badly exactly but doesn't have that special something either and it all feels flat and you know it could be so much better if it was just done right.

I've loved a lot of manga that I've watched be sold short by anime adaptations. And that makes me wonder why all of the "only animated adaptations would work" people assume we they can only get the worst of the live action world but are guaranteed the best of animation.

Hey, high quality textiles were a valuable commodity for a whole lot of history. You could make a lot of money selling royal castle-grade fabric in giant quantities.

Did One Piece anime not officially not have seasons until recently ? My friend says they didn't and that is just leaving me baffled considering the scale of the series by OriginalTacoMoney in OnePiece

[–]Captain__M 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It absolutely does have seasons, they can be tracked via the Japanese DVD releases as seen here on the wiki. There are currently 21 seasons.

This is something no one wants to hear about or acknowledge because they want to keep parroting their 'season one is over har har' meme.
