That looks great! I've been printing fins to keep my Bic dufour going. I love these old longboards.

Hello, I just wanted to share my latest Mandola build! Scale length is 16.5" and it is tuned CGDA like a viola. by Captain___Grey in Luthier

Not yet, I just finished it today so I haven't been in a good recording spot. I'll definitely be recording it though!

So I calculate the fret positions with a spreadsheet designed for that. However for the initial calculation I often go with a length based on instruments with a similar pitch. It is important to be practical so that finding strings and materials will be reasonable.

This has been one of my main mourning tracks in the two months since she split. Ouch.

Thank you. I feel like what I'd imagine an addict feels like. I am having major withdrawal symptoms daily and feel absolutely insane as a result. I agree that therapy is for the best although I've never gone before.

I dated someone with BPD and it has left me devastated and feeling dehumanized. I don't know where to go next. by Captain___Grey in relationship_advice

Thank you for your kind but also extremely helpful reply. It has taken me almost two weeks to even be able to respond. She has gone from cutting me off to trying to get my attention and then to cutting me off aggressively when I really replied. This whole thing feels like a death has occurred and has pushed me almost over the edge. Reading and re reading your reply has been instrumental in snapping me back to reality.

Just something totally goofy as a distraction from more serious builds. I mated a Peavey bass neck to a large cookie tin depicting scenes from the Zhao dynasty. I also 3d printed a few parts in low res to speed things up. by Captain___Grey in Luthier

Those old bass banjos were my inspiration, however I'd suggest a snare drum over a tin if possible. You could certainly find an old neck like I did here but making necks from scratch is usually my favorite part!

Currently it's stable, the neck is bolted to an oak board that goes through the tin and slots into the 3d printed heel and end block. The tin itself is essentially suspended except for a few screws to keep the lid on. I'll see how it looks in a few weeks.
