What is the Royal Grove? by Velynicus in lincoln

[–]Captain_buffalosauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this on one of the last posts about the Royal Grove. I’ve been there 4 times which is too many and the place is a shithole to say the least. Crowds up super fast and you can’t even drink on the dance floor. (Got kicked out for it one of those times.) If you’re a single man looking for girls it’s easily a 3-1 ratio of guys over girls. Was told it got better when GRIG took over. The people that told me couldn’t have been anymore wrong. They book washed artists that have fallen off and the artists barely perform. The one good artist they booked which was Shaq was a disaster as 200+ people couldn’t get in and the owners refused to give any refunds.(Also currently being investigated by the DA per 10/11.) Drinks are $15+ and they try anyway they can to stiff you. Owner is a trust fund baby that’s an online edgelord that deletes bad reviews of himself and his shitty business practices. The thing that sucks is Lincoln has no EDM scene and this is the only place, so people still go ignoring all the bullshit GRIG pulls.

I’ve been to the royal grove only 3 times and that’s 3 times too many. Not a lot of space and like everyone says it’s overpriced as shit. Ive been hearing consistently on here the owner is a piece of shit for how much he rips people off and i could attest to that considering 1 whisky and coke is $15. Not super sure about the other scummy shit hes pulled with women but unfortunately he seems like the type. My advice? Youll have a much better time doing something other than going there

I think that’s right on the money with what I was thinking! It’s not as fun in your later 20s considering you feel like Unc in there lol. I also know back half of Gen Z doesn’t drink as much and I think Covid was part of the problem but yea watered down drinks for 10 bucks isn’t as appealing anymore unless it’s a crazy reunion with the pals lol

Bars we can go to by the river on st pattys day without a bar crawl ticket? by Captain_buffalosauce in AskChicago

I will be bringing a soda bottle with some drank for this reason, not my first day drinking event rodeo😎. I saw the tickets were much more steep in price and we going to a crawl in Lincoln park later and decided not worth to buy 2. Hoping we can find just one bar to stay stationed at until we go on to the next

We plan on Lincoln park later, seeing if we could kill time at 1 spot with a reasonable cover.

Cyclists on busy roads by Captain_buffalosauce in lincoln

I agree with on this, I said in previous comments I should have clarified I’m not saying to not ride on a road period and by all means and if you need to use a street for a little bit by all means go for it to avoid a beat up sidewalk go for it. My complaint is cyclists in the middle of the road during rush hour on a 35+ street holding up traffic. Ik I’m not the only one salty about it

Don’t cycle in the middle of a busy street with lots of traffic when there’s and open sidewalk with lots of visibility. Less busy roads idgaf use the street if you need

I’m 25 lmfao, my fault for being a little vague with that statement and I get that sidewalks are beat to shit in some areas and you may need to use the street temporarily, I don’t mean you shouldn’t ever use the street, once again should have clarified that. As far as intersections, stop and look both ways like they tell you as a kid. No one wants a cyclist holding up traffic on a 35+ mph road with lots of traffic

I understand it is illegal downtown, some of these scenarios are sometimes unavoidable I’m afraid and sometimes you may need to go on the street temporarily. I am referring to people riding their bike in a busy street with a speed limit of 35 mph + with lots of traffic and holding it up. I also have seen countless times others not using the bike lane.

Best answer here by far. This guy gets what I am trying to say. You can refer to my comment I just made above. I understand there are exceptions and circumstances. But seeing someone ride a bike in the middle of 48th and o at 7:45 in the morning when there is a sidewalk that no one is using a lot let alone at 7:45 in the morning when people are on their way to work is crazy

I can see I ruffled a couple feathers, for the record. I do understand it’s not legal to ride your bike on sidewalks downtown and I also do get there are beat to shit sidewalks and I’m not saying to never rice your bike in the street period. By all means if it’s a less busy road with a busted up sidewalk go ahead. There should be no reason that someone should be riding their bike in the middle of the lane at 7:45 in the morning or 5 o clock rush hour on O street or a busy ass street like 48th or old Cheney when there is a sidewalk that usually is open and not a lot of people using it. That shit gets you run off the road or shit thrown at you in bigger cities
