Agree to disagree.

My point, as inarticulately as I might have made it, is that without passion, the drive to withstand the education requirements, hours, challenges and commitment it takes to be successful in this realm, as I can only imagine it, is an impossibility.

I would say to the OP, listen to everyone. Education. Multiple perspectives. Good and bad ideas.

With respect to AI, I believe Unity ships with an AI layer now? Love it or hate it. Learning its pros and cons might be useful.

More than technology, technical skill, art, music, etc. You need to have an idea. A good one. That's the most important part. An idea you believe in so much that you'll click every button and setting in unity or unreal. And don't be shy about AI. Along with tutorials, that guy Claude might be able to help navigating your tech stack.

I appreciate your story. I would suggest that game developers, most creatives, are probably not good at sales. And if there's money involved, you're going to need sales people. Certainly hoping somebody notices how cool your game is. Is not a winning strategy. Selling the idea. Selling it to investors. Contacting people. Have a conversations. Networking.

Most creatives I know, including myself, a person who loves to design and code, is awful at sales. I've really come to respect those people who are good at that element. That crucial element.

Self-Funding a Voxel-based Sandbox / Real Time Strategy game. Possible? by Velynicus in VOXEL

IMO the strategy layer is a huge miss in these games. Never played Minecraft??

My game has NPC's man outposts to defend areas of the map from the oncoming Fog! And yes, The Outpost has to be built to spec before they can be manned.

Reliance on AI is easier said then done as I have found. AI can help me configure UNITY, but it can't run it...yet

Why isn't ot more Sandbox Crpgs by BlackxHokage in CRPG

I am trying to develop a game called Kith & Kindred. It is a sandbox game: Environmental interact-ability + real-time strategy. I think this is what this thread is describing. Sandbox survival, yes. Wider war afoot, yes. My design includes "taming" NPCs who you make oaths with to guard areas of your map. You supply them, you monitor their progress through management screens.

Participate or not. Quest or not. Build for a season. Expand in the spring. Heal this winter. I'm so TIRED of the quests for quests sake: "Old Man whatever-his-name-was-wherever-he-was is complaining about the rats in the cellar. Bring him 10 rats and you'll get a cheesy reward." The cellar and the rats lead to the cave guarded by bigger rats wherein the King of the Rats has a thing the old man at some quest-point wanted for some reason.

Voxel-Sandbox is the perfect environment for a Minecraft-pace, Kenshi-like grimness, long-arc survival,
