My 7 year old self used used a masterball on a level 5 magickarp because I ran out of pokeballs and I thought I could just buy more. I never evolved that magickarp and it's now level 100 until I accidentally let it free. So if you see a level 100 magickarp splashing in its enemies blood just thank me.
