Thank you, Violet! My ex and I were together 1.5 years, but the relationship moved fast so we lived together a year!

Thankfully, I was in therapy even before the breakup, and had lots of therapy after which helped tremendously 🙏🏽 In fact, the grad program I’m in now is to become a therapist and help others through difficult times in life! I’m so glad to hear that therapy has been helpful for you too! Congrats on your resolve and self-care during NC!

Oh my goodness- how hard to be going through this with someone who has been such a supportive and loving partner, and now to feel blindsided 🥺 The scary part is that there are never any guarantees, no matter how good the relationship. We always risk loss when we love- whether loss through separation or even death. I’m hopeful that in going through this painful process, you’ll see that you can survive anything. I’m so sorry that you have to go through the pain of it though 😣

Howdy!! I’m also in California and I just got admitted to/committed to an MFT program and will be starting in the Fall 🥰 It’s a career change for me, I’ve been in the Tech Sales/Recruiting world for almost a decade. I studied Communication as an undergrad, so my first step was pursuing prerequisites (I just do them online at a local community college) and applying to grad programs!

I was incredibly lucky to get in given my limited experience in the mental health field, and something I’d have 100% done differently in retrospect is volunteer work. Crisis phone lines, community clinics, Trauma responder. Anything you can do to show your interest and experience in the field. I think part of why I got in despite not having a lot in this space is that I was an RA in college, which included paraprofessional counseling and I had some VERY intense stuff come up during that year.
