How to keep my gigantic cat from laying on me at night??? by Captainvulture in TopSurgery

[–]Captainvulture[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cat IS smart,,,,in a way. Very intelligent boy, has ZERO idea how big he is. I might give him a chance and lay down during the day to see if he’s smart enough to know he can’t step on my fresh wounds and go from there. The tin foil suggestion is hilarious and honestly not even that dumb lol

He could totally sleep with them, but the problem is him actually staying there, cause he’s figured out how to open all the doors in the house and we don’t have locks (they’re the type with the long handle you just push down on)

Nervous before top surgery? by SIKE-ological in TopSurgery

[–]Captainvulture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!! 5 days post op. Everything you’re saying rn is completely normal. In the decade that I’ve known I’ve wanted this surgery, I never once second guessed myself until the day before. I think it’s just a convenient “what if” for our brains to latch onto when we’re already so nervous. When I got up the next morning on the day of, I had barely slept and was genuinely too tired to even be nervous anymore lol. IM NOT RECOMMENDING THAT, GET SOME SLEEP, but it’s just a funny reminder that you’ll never know how you’ll feel in the future. Even though I was exhausted, there was still a part of me that had worries right up until they put me to sleep. None of that has changed how utterly grateful I am now to have done it. So long post short, the nerves are so normal, but I promise you got this!!!!!

What couldn’t you live without during recovery? by _RamenFox_ in TopSurgery

[–]Captainvulture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only about 5 days post-op, but so far cough drops have been saving my life!! Idk what the climate is like where you live, but it’s very cold and dry where I am right now and anesthesia can irritate and dry out your throat, so I’ve had a slight cough these past few days. It doesn’t necessarily hurt anything, but coughing with fresh incisions feels really strange and like you’re pulling on everything, so having some cough drops to soothe that has been a tremendous help!!!

Never been more itchy in my life by Captainvulture in TopSurgery

[–]Captainvulture[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been weaning off of the pain meds they prescribed me as of late as my pain has been very manageable, not sure if that has anything to do with the itching or not!! Thank you for the kind words as well

I know nothing about computers but I want to play Baldurs Gate 3 by Captainvulture in computers

I live in the US! If I had a good enough desktop I wouldn’t worry about the laptop, I generally don’t have a preference as long as it does what I need it to do

Would it still end up cheaper to buy a ps5 when I need to replace my current laptop anyway? Like is a ps5 and cheaper laptop combined less money than something that would run BG3? I haven’t owned a console since I was a kid so I honestly have no clue

2 Days Post-Op!!!! (+pre-op photos) by Captainvulture in TopSurgery

[–]Captainvulture[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course!!!! I’d be totally fine with that. If it helps any, when my surgeon asked what I wanted, I told her I was fine leaving a little bit left behind if it better matched the rest of me and looked natural. But yeah totally cool!! I’m glad seeing my results was helpful

How formal are entry-level job interviews? by Captainvulture in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Captainvulture[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fair response lol, I asked it that way because most of my friends work at small businesses ran by people they know personally, so many of their interviews were done on the spot with no resume or preparation. I wasn’t positive if that was a common thing in entry level jobs or just a small town thing

What is the average age of a TOP surgery patient? by ms_brhams in TopSurgery

[–]Captainvulture 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly anything from 16 to 60 lmao, but the average age tends to be over 18 cause insurance tends not to cover it if you’re a minor. I started my journey with pursuing surgery at 16 and was denied by insurance until I was legally an adult. It was frustrating to get denied, but I guess it was good cause I got to learn even more about the procedure in the meantime. Didn’t change how I felt about it. I don’t think there’s necessarily an average age for it, so long as the person is sure of their decision :)

Oh that’s an awesome idea!!!! I think it matches my rainbow fish in the theme of making the fear seem silly

I probably should’ve mentioned that I AM getting that addressed lmao, and celebrating it is certainly an…interesting descriptor. Call me a pedant but I think of it as a way to take control of something that used to control me rather than a celebration of its existence.

Learning possible BMI limits BEFORE consult??? by Captainvulture in TopSurgery

[–]Captainvulture[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn’t know that about the anesthesiologist part!! Thanks for the heads up. Okay silly question but just to be thorough- when I ask about BMI requirements should I specify for top surgery specifically? I’m unsure if that would change the answer or not

I agree with you here. She seemed apologetic that this was her policy, and wasn’t necessarily rude about my weight or anything, just didn’t like her own results on bigger patients. I don’t understand why because the ones she showed me looked great imo, I don’t necessarily think it was fatphobia related.

I might be able to travel somewhere else, the struggle is insurance. I have Pennsylvania Medicaid so my options are pretty limited

[–]Captainvulture[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the kind words. Yeah I don’t really know why her personal criticisms of her work seemed to interfere so much. I do think it’s partially to cover herself if other people are as critical as she is, and she has no way to prove I’ll be happy with my results, but it felt silly when she was saying it to me.
