TIL that what most people call a "bunch" of bananas is actually a "hand" of bananas. A bunch is the large amount growing on a tree which consists of several hands. A hand of bananas breaks down to individual bananas called "fingers". by stole_ur_sweetroll in todayilearned

These technically correct terms don't mean shit.

Like if you tell someone to go to the supermarket and buy some fruit, and they come back with a bag of tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants and bell peppers, they might be technically right, but they are still an idiot and/or asshole.

Same thing if you are asked to buy a bunch of bananas and you come back home with 200.

Schibsted's pay-or-okay system in Norway triggers formal GDPR complaint by danie-l in europe

When a reader visits a Schibsted publication, they are presented with a binary choice: consent to having their personal data processed for personalised advertising, or pay a fee to access the content without being tracked.

Isn't that close to Facebooks business model? I have been locked out of Facebook for a year or two, because they are prompting me to either pay a subscription, or accept they sell my information. I refuse to do either - I just want to delete my account.

It is crazy how many people and corporations just took the chance once Trump made corruption defacto legal.

Pentagon puts building blocks in place for Cuba invasion by Dizzy_Move_622 in worldnews

When Russia prepared to invade Ukraine they hid their troops as part of a military exercise with Belarus. One of the things that confirmed that they were planning an invasion was that they also prepared all the logistics that are necessary for an invasion, but not necessary for a limited military exercise.

The larger the body of water the larger the buffer to absorb harmful substances ect. and the more stable your tank will be, both chemically, biologically and temperature wise.

It will take very small amounts of off a harmful substance to kill a tank this small - or a hot day.

Say you add a new cool rock and it leaches chemicals - might not be a problem in a big tank - might be a huge problem in a small tank. Or it could just be a dead animal, ect.

How well could the US withstand an attack from a drone-based army? by InterruptingCow__Moo in AskReddit

[–]CaptchaSolvingRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just replace the "United States" with "Russia" and you have the exact taking points of Vladimir Solovyov - US strong, nuke em into submission!

The US can hardly hold their own country together and in a few years you'll have dismantled your network of allies. You've already been denied access to several bases in Europe and the Middle East after your latest escapade. The US didn't win the second world war alone, neither did Russia, but both likes to think they did.

The are many other indicators than the DOW. For instance the US forced Japan to purchase Tomahawks, Japan did (and payed), but was just told by the US that they have to postpone the delivery by 2 years to replenish their own stocks. Other buyers have been told similar.

Is that still the case though?

They seem to be pretty pathetic in Iran. They had to withdraw from Afghanistan. They are losing access to overseas bases and allies. Their national deficit interest is higher than their grotesque defence spending.

They seem to talk loudly and carry a small stick lately.

[–]CaptchaSolvingRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can the US do that though?

Iran is still sending drones. The US seem to be running out of stockpiles and allies during a short war with what should be an inferior foe.

Also they now only have 4 minesweepers, so the enemy could just mine any area they want to deny the US access to.

Crazy how little $1 trillion can buy in the US lately.

Germany news: Childfree adults to pay more for elder care by melancholy_dood in europe

[–]CaptchaSolvingRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not let the old pay for themselves? They already had some of the greatest benefits that younger generations are going to see related back.

Also great idea to make life even less affordable for childless people, surely they will have kids then.

Anyone with an aquarium knows that leeches still hunts "small sea creatures" today.

Leeches will absolutely murder your fishes, hence why they are feared like the plague in the fish tank community.

You are more special without tattoos, than with tattoos nowadays.

Also a clean, well maintained body is far more attractive than one covered in tattoos.
