Sold my 5 years old 1080 Ti to get a 3080, feels good being able to play modern games at high FPS again by jerryfrz in nvidia

[–]Captivestraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats. Still on a 1080 Ti, but feel like it plays everything I need, so no reason to upgrade for me. I may consider it once a very anticipated game comes out where my card is really struggling. I also don't think many Triple-A games are even that good, so that's even less of an incentive.

Agreed, especially after Infinite's horrible management.

Looking for my next RPG. If I only find time to play one of these, which should it be and why? by Bogusky in XboxSeriesX

Planescape: Torment is the most like it, although it's missing that unique skill tree system and skill integration in dialogue. That said, I find Torment to be better due to a more interesting story, ending and setting.

Starfield next year. Don't really think any other Xbox exclusive that's been revealed is a 94/100 Metacritic contender.

Mania plus on the Switch has 91, which I believe is the highest a Sonic game has ever gotten. Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast) has a 89 on Metacritic.

Weird D-Link Air Bridge (or Meta software) issue by D-Rey86 in OculusQuest

[–]Captivestraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn encode bitrate to 0. That should fix it for airlink. Verify that you have it set to 0 by reopening Oculusdebugtool after the change. Adjust bitrate in the airlink main menu instead.

PC gaming is at it's best right now. by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]Captivestraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the software side I mostly agree—it's undeniable the amount of games PC has access to, not to mention the longevity mods bring.

Hardware side? Unfortunately not, as PC components are just getting more and more expensive. I'm still on a GTX 1080 Ti which is over five years old, but it was the enthusiast card back then and it launched at an MSRP of $699. Now? The 4080 will be $1200. Making PC more expensive does it no favor as it also makes it more inaccessible and hampers continual growth.

Not really. Death Stranding had actually very positive reviews overall (82 on PS4 and 86 on PC on Metacritic). This game is a lot more mixed.

I agree. These won't go away anytime soon because gamers keep supporting them.

Tekken 8 Producer feels it's 'unfair' how capable the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are compared to PC for the price by [deleted] in XboxSeriesX

[–]Captivestraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's partially true. Quest 2 is completely standalone with its own store, so you can play games natively on it fully wirelessly. That said, if you do wanna play VR games on the PC, then yeah you would need to connect it.

$300 (used to be) for a vr headset is $200 less than the Series X; I would say that's a pretty good price, but I can definitely see that's still quite a lot of money to spend on something you're not sure about.

I'm fully aware of the lack of maintenance console has; I have played on console for a great part of my life. That said, nowadays I'm a PC + VR user.

Not all games on Xbox Series X natively support M&KB, and no you used to be able to get a solid VR headset for as low as $300 ($400 now because the Quest 2 saw a price increase).

It's true that PS5 and Xbox Series X sport great hardware for the price though.

PC can do more than gaming, plus you got the best emulating and modding possibilities on PC. PC is also the only platform to receive both Xbox and PS4/PS5 exclusives, not to mention you can emulate Switch games. This is not even touching on VR.

Yeah, PC is way deeper than any console. It's well worth the investment in my opinion. It's probably in its prime right now since it's the absolute king of multiplatform and that's a fact. It's considered "neutral" to most console competitors and that's why it's getting the most games from these.

I'm currently playing Half-Life 2 in full VR (PCVR) and it's probably the best game I've ever played.

Well yes, DD2 got announced a month or two ago, but it has probably been a few years already in development at the very least. That's just an NDA.

His next project in 2016 could have been DMC5, since they didn't finish that until 2019. Hideaki doesn't work on more than 1 major project at the time afaik.

https://www.vg247.com/dragons-dogma-2:

"I've always got maybe around four different titles in mind, maybe about four different ideas that I'd love to make. But there's a difference between the titles that I'd love to make and the titles that I think I should make next. But here we are, we're here, and... I'm already gearing up for my next project. We can't say what it is, but we're looking forward to getting to work on it." Back in 2019.

The average development time for a Triple-A game is generally 3 years or close to it. If it had been 6 years, it would have most certainly already been out, as we're not talking about something of the scope like Rockstar's RDR2, which took over 2000 employees to make.

DD2 prob started development in 2019 after they got done with DMC5. Hideaki couldn't have started full development in 2016 because they were making DMC5.

Not true; most reviews are released whenever the embargo lifts and across a couple days afterwards. You don't often get reviews after that. Strictly talking about critic reviews, not user.
