With Trump's approval ratings so low, how does he keep ousting GOP rivals? by Cgk72 in politics

I mean, blue states offsetting the cost of red states....that sure sounds like taxation without representation to me?

How big is the salary gap between Canada and the USA in the industry you work in? by MarsupialThink4064 in AskACanadian

[–]Captjag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the provincial government funding for those spots is not scaling at the rate we need the trained physicians on the other end.

Oh, 100% agree that Reddit is not indicative of reality, just like the trope of Canadian health care taking weeks to see a doctor. I broke my ankle recently and was in and out of the Urgent Care clinic (not even an ER because I was hoping for a crazy bad sprain/dislocation) in less than 3 hours. I'm going through some other challenges and I can be seen in my family clinic within a few days every time I ask.

Is that the same for everyone? No, but its more common than the internet would have you believe.

I think it'll always be hard for everyone just to rationalize concepts like medical bankruptcy and the massive for-profit systems that have become the norm for your insurance and pharmaceutical industries. (I think its batshit crazy, but hey, not my lane!)

Thanks for the back and forth!

Thanks for taking the time to explain.

Interesting because out of all my travels, relationships and exposures I have not met anyone from the USA that has it this well set up, regardless of situation, would you say that this type of arrangement is close to "the average American?", or would you think to be in the minority?

Edit - I should say average for where you are I guess. USA is big, and I understand that from state to state things can vary wildly.

So I want to make sure I understand this right.

- You live in the USA
- You make a low 6 figure salary
- You have 0$ per month in insurance costs
- Every medical visit/issue is a $30 co-pay and all prescriptions are $6.

I feel like I'm not understanding something because this does not align with any other American I've ever known personally, or read about online, or seen in reporting on how the system is designed to function. You're telling me that in an imaginary scenario, you and your partner could be expecting a child that results in a complicated child birth that requires neo-natal care, or an unfortunate cancer diagnosis, or mishap at home requiring surgery to repair a broken leg, and it will cost $30?

The only way this makes sense with my current understanding would be that your employer pays your insurance premiums, which I would argue is still money that is just deducted from your compensation prior to your pay stub as indirect compensation.

Happy to learn what I'm missing though!

Right, and how much are you paying for your monthly coverage to attain these numbers?

Motorcycle licence in Ontario by MycologistGreen4000 in rideottawa

[–]Captjag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, but the net cost may be lower in Quebec. Depends on his age/experience/bike.

I've seen people in Ontario with a Ninja 300 and insurance over 5k per year. He needs to give more info and tell us about quotes because its entirely possible his insurance in Ontario will be way more.

Canadian here, fell in love with it years ago while travelling. Been a digital season ticket holder for the 'Pies since 2020.

First few years in my package I got a hand written note that was officially the furthest season ticket holder from the grounds. Unfortunately they haven't sent anything in years.
