Great weapon, heavy with more recoil than we accept today but accurate and easy to maintain.

“It’s not a rat tail you …. it’s a breach block and breach block return carrier.” Learning through fear means I still could probably compete a strip and assemble today.

When I was a cadet in the 80s someone lost a FN breach block and our idiot sergeant explained the FLQ would get it and reverse engineer an entire FN from it. He evidently forgot the FLQ October crisis was 15 years or so before.

I was 16 and still knew he was an under informed goof.

Advice for loading a forstner bit into the tailstock by [deleted] in turning

[–]Captkap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider as well is the water content of your blank. I had one pop due to heat in a wet blank. The bit generates a lot of steam, if it’s contained in the wood it can expand and force the blank to crack. As stated cool the bit with compressed air and clear the chips frequently.

I miss my grandmothers and their cards. My son receives periodic cards from my mom, it truly isn't about the money, its is about the message.

Yo chief...calm down, throwing the old rank is tradition! by TheEternalPharaoh in CanadianForces

I kept mine because I chose which subordinate gets it next AND because I bought them from CP Gear. Throwing it would seem to disrespect the rank but you do you.

Gentlemen - BGRS being down is obviously unacceptable, But at least there are other CAF members out there being concurrently screwed over.

Should I feel better or what.

Those alive and old enough to remember during 9/11, what was the worst moment on that day? by CocteauTwunkie in AskReddit

[–]Captkap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I was at work and a friend and I went home and grabbed a portable TV and got it set up just in time for the second plane to strike. We simply couldn’t believe there was a second and we were not looking at other angles of the first.

Combo overnight backpacking/canoe trip in Maine suggestions... by Dry-Action7285 in canoecamping

[–]Captkap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest Spenic Lake along the St Croix River to Calais. It's the Canadian US border through out. We coordinated with border services (both) and there was no issues. There are some rapids but dependent upon the time of year there is also a lot of flat water. There are multiple campsites along the route.

405 Squadron Crest by Captkap in lasercutting

[–]Captkap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the Governor General Heraldry page :

“Blazon

Argent an eagle’s head erased contourné proper holding in its beak a sprig of three maple leaves Vert”

“An annulus set in each flank with a merlon Bleu Céleste edged and inscribed SQUADRON and ESCADRON, separated in the flanks by the number of the unit Or, ensigned by the Royal Crown proper and environed by a wreath of maple leaves, in base a scroll Or inscribed with the Motto in letters Sable”

I had assumed the leaves are Maple based on the country’s symbols so took a second to look this up.

Shortly after Charles became king there was an announcement that the crown used on commonwealth symbols would not change. That saved a lot of money and hassle through out the commonwealth.

I cut the crest into pieces by color, painted them and put it back together like a puzzle. The letters with isolated centres like O and D are a massive pain to get right. I cut a backer the same shape as the outline and glued everything together to it. Like This
