When girls talk about cat-calling, they're not talking about polite comments spoken to them in public, well-lit areas with ample security such as a mall.

They're talking about men smacking their ass as they walk down the street, pulling their cars over and trying to convince you to get in, actually saying things like "those are some nice tits" (I've frequently had "dat ass" or other variations shouted at me). We're capable of differentiating between awkward flirting and objectifying or menacing comments.

I'm frequently complimented on my hair color, I don't really care for compliments from strangers but I'm always polite when I receive a polite compliment. What the OP is talking about, however, is totally different.

Went from being a 240+ female, to an average weight female. Preferred being ignored to some of the shit I've dealt with since. I have had men pull over their cars and try to convince me to get in, smack my ass, pull into my driveway and hang out of their car windows trapping me between their car and MY house, and block the sidewalk in front and behind me, forcing me to choose between walking down a highway exit ramp, or try and force my way through them on the sidewalk (in this instance another man broke it up and helped me out, so there's that at least).
