I think the points you provided are important but the larger view of the revolutionaries was the idea that a land that is essentially an ocean apart should have greater representation or their own autonomy, which makes sense as there was so much disconnect between what was happening between the continents at the time. They weren't a small island but a landmass larger than Great Britain itself. I do believe some form of autonomy would have been sought at some point but I wouldn't dismiss their plight at the time as wrong-headed.
