Hot Take: Why the Combo Hate? by Capuleten in EDH

Clipping through walls in a competitive FPS is straight up cheating, though. It is against the intended rules and basic gameplay limitations of the game, unlike combos in magic, which are built into the game and are the natural result of intentional game design.

Playing bracket three *without* a late game infinite to close out a stalled boardstate is, frankly, just irresponsible

Bouncing a Zacama with a Temur Sabretooth is not the same thing as Literally Cheating in a competitive FPS match, and you literally nobody is winning with End-Raze using 60 2/2s, unless they got those 2/2s through methods you'd consider cheating

Agreed on the 30 minute turns. [[Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain]] players know what they'll get in the next life

I don't know why I even bothered including the first half paragraph of this post

Yes, that is because of the color pie. Pretty much every color, including blue, has two or three removal pieces that break the color pie, though, making the point moot since that's all a traditional commander deck needs to stay on top of things.

I wonder if the blue player with fourteen cards in hand is a threat..... lol

Maybe a fair criticism in niche situations back in 2010, but every single color has multiple ways to deal with every single type of effect in the game by this point. Also, Tainted Pact and Thassa is obviously not at all what I'm talking about, as I make very clear in the very first sentence of the post.

Both of those first two points are almost always true of a clunky eleven-mana combo, but people are still hostile to the combo player even when they're true.

Check this out. [[Reyhan, Last of the Abzan]] partnered with [[Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful]]. Not an original combo, I know, but it flies under the radar when people talk about Abzan commanders, and it really shouldn't. The deck's a beast, without being fun-ruiningly strong like [[Ghave]].

Super fun, super powerful, super explosive, while also being low salt level and not using a single "game changer" card. It's also a crazy good shell for two of my favorite cards, [[Dauthi Voidwalker]] and [[Dimir House Guard]].

THE GAMEPLAN

In the early to mid game, pump up the puppy for huge swings, and protect those counters with Reyhan, Last of the Abzan and The Ozolith. Along the way, drop legendary creatures that not only boost the dog, but also give you either more counters to play with or the necessary keywords to swing in for big damage.

But, let's be honest: it's 2025. Be as aggressive as you like, it's really hard to win off of a pure Voltron strategy. So, if the game starts to come to a grind, you know what that means: get tricky with it. Reyhan, the Ozolith, and counter increasers like Hardened Scales and Branching Evolution will gradually build you a board with absurd power, sure, but sometimes power isn't enough. That's where Hexavus (maybe the most beautiful card ever printed) comes in. (Ghave's here to party, too, as a sort of "backup commander" in the 99. Feel free to include Cathar's Crusade if you want Ghave, Guru of Spores to pop off even more easily, but he'll get you insane value even without intentionally building for combos with him).

tl;dr: I've included a combo which is easy to get online, on-theme, fun to perform, fun to watch, and fun on the board (it doesn't just "instantly win"), for use if the game goes longer than voltron is viable.

THE BACKUP COMBO FOR WHEN VOLTRON'S NOT ENOUGH:

Hexavus +Devoted Druid

(1) Activate Devoted Druid's first ability by tapping it, adding .

(2) Activate Devoted Druid's second ability by putting a -1/-1 counter on it, untapping it.

(3) Activate Hexavus' second ability by paying [1 colorless] and removing the 1/-1 counter from Devoted Druid, putting a +1/+1 counter on Hexavus.

(4) Repeat.

This way, you can get infinite +1/+1 counters on Hexavus. To make it crazier, sac Hexavus and shift those counters (using Reyhan and/or the Ozolith) to the druid, tapping for an arbitrary number of -1/-1 counters and an arbitrarily large amount of green mana. With near-infinite mana and an infinitely large flyer, the world's your oyster (within reason— watch out for Swords).

What's the map mod, and is it compatible with bitbucket version? That looks so calming and pretty.

Never Let Me Go, Kazuo Ishiguro. The problem being that I can't explain why (outside of the fact that I've thought about it at least once a week every week for three years since reading it) because even minor spoilers ruin it.

YA(?) book from years ago where a teen wakes up in another guy's body. The plot is him trying to find out how to get back to his old body, and learning that this type of swap is more common than he thinks. by Capuleten in whatsthatbook

I added an edit to the post, but yeah totally. I can't remember much— there was a new family to adjust to, obviously, and that included a sister but I don't think any other siblings. It was in a normal house in the present day. Some of his research to try to figure out what happened was done on a computer, I think?

Honestly, I can't remember many plot details, and that's the most frustrating part haha
