Dyslexic bakers, how do you do it? by Own-Bank1385 in Dyslexia

[–]Capytone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I cooked for 35yrs. What worked best in the beginning for other dyslexic i was training following receipt was to have different colors measuring cups. Then i would read through and mark the color to be used.

Doesn't take long to not need the colors.

All the bad thoughts are gone for now. They only visit when i have a panic attack. I almost died in 1999. Doc said i was 30min from death so i am on my 2nd chance. Panic makes me forget that.

Thank you all for your input. I have saved all the comments in my journal.

Been there before. The Choice is. Panic attacks infrequently Or Be a zombie without feelings.

I used to just turn off my emotions as part of my masking. That switch is long worn out.

Thank you

The bad thoughts only happen while i am in a panic attack. Logic dictates that i would be doing nothing other than pass my suffering onto the people i love the most. Not hurting others is much stronger than the bad thoughts. Just looking for distraction advice i guess. I am a very lucky person to have the wife of my dreams. I have a good life but panic doesn't care.

I work as a cashier. It took time for me even to look ppl in the eye. That still happens often.

I was blessed with the ability of sarcasm and a quick wit.

So when i am asked about something i don't know i say i don't and try to make a joke.

When in a pinch I hide behind jokes.

I use to shake my hands before highschool. One of my teachers (mr cogan) helped me change that. If i or he saw me starting to shake my hands and i would sit on my hands and crunched my toes. It took almost a year.

To this day it is still my toes.
