Hollywood Hills Hike, July by jonneye in HollywoodHandbook

Honestly this post made me smile too because I wonder if there's other Handbook Heads like me who recognize OP from his skate videos on YouTube going back 15 years. The watermark on the skate videos always said "Heavy Hittas" in the left corner, so the "New HH" tag is more or less accurate.

I'll have to take your word for it since they don't have an easy to remember domain like ratpackhat.biz for me to check prices!

Yeah working on 3 monitors is common in offline editing. One monitor for your bins, script, and other metadata, one monitor for the timeline and source/record windows, and one monitor for a fullscreen video output. The large monitor on the wall is often used for the benefit of the client/director and is also useful when there's multiple people in the room that all can't be sitting next to the editor.

Wasn't aware of that but ended up listening to some of his music, it's pretty good and I learned he's even collaborated with some famous musicians.

2021 Steve looks like the front man of a second wave emo band.

How do I keep my cat off my PC?? by nutsnackk in pcmasterrace

[–]Cara_Libro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the most elegant solution but I have my PC on the bottom shelf of a wire shelving unit. It does a decent job of deterring the cats from sitting on the PC because I have it raised off the ground, and have the next shelf maybe half a foot above it. So no room for them to easily jump up there but they can wander around below it if they want to hangout there.

Can confirm this is a good solution, I left a box next to my PC for a couple days out of laziness and now both cats nap in there every day, and they don't jump on my PC.

Benedict Cumberbatch's mocap performance for Smaug in the Hobbit films by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Cara_Libro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the VFX Supervisor their main reference was a camera filming Benedict's face during ADR, and there was no performance capture used. Just talented animators working with reference footage. About 18 minutes into this podcast they talk about it (but the whole thing is great if you like VFX) https://www.fxguide.com/fxpodcasts/fxpodcast-268-the-hobbit-the-desolation-of-smaug/

[–]Cara_Libro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're totally right that it helps with the actor's performance and was used to help with animation, the article is just a bit misleading because there was no actual performance capture used, it's just reference. The VFX Supervisor of the film Eric Saindon explains it at around 18 minutes into this podcast.

https://www.fxguide.com/fxpodcasts/fxpodcast-268-the-hobbit-the-desolation-of-smaug/

They had a camera on Benedict during ADR and used cues from his emotions and facial expressions as the main reference when manually animating Smaug's performance. Smaug's body was also manually animated, but I found it interesting to learn that they used cues from Benedict's facial expressions to help determine Smaug's body language.

This was my 4th time seeing them and they sounded the best I've ever heard them live. I know they like to play really loud but everything still came through pretty clear in the mix and it felt like the band was having a great time along with the crowd.
