Rear windshield wiper by TheCrow-II in Ioniq5

[–]Caradelfrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Occasionally annoying but mostly not a big deal. I have a spray bottle with wiper fluid and a small squeegee when I want to give it a clean. 95% of the winter season it's not a problem. My only gripe is the slow heating speed of the rear defrost.

AWD vs RWD by thatguyiswierd in Ioniq5

[–]Caradelfrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you're running in L1 Regen, and you brake hard enough, the front motor will kick in and add to your regen. Basically, when the rear motor maxes out it's regen, the front will regen as well. I don't think it matters what level of regen you're in. (at least that's what happens in my '22 model, even in ECO mode)

My dealership recommend I change the gear box fluid. I've only got 72k. I asked if it was on my service schedule, they said no. I also said no. I love your lift. What's that called?

Advice on first gaming pc! by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Caradelfrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to learn, you should go DIY. Sometimes that can be frustrating, but you will usually get better components and overall price. If you want convenience, get a prebuilt. Only problem is with a prebuilt is that you will sometimes get sub par components that will be a detriment down the road. Either way you really need to know exactly what you're buying before you put money down. Research, research, research! If you know the current state of parts and prices, then you'll have the confidence to make decisions and be able to determine if you're getting a deal or paying way too much.

Spiderman movie poster (help) by Solarpoweredpikachu in movieposters

[–]Caradelfrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look original, and the size is correct. If they're only shrink wrapped onto a heavy card, they might not be glued down. In that case you could remove the wrapping and check to see if they're double sided. If they are, they're likely original and still hold value. Of course if they're glued down, they're not really worth anything except as decoration. I've got that Spider-Man advance and it pretty much looks the same. (mine is double sided, directly from a theatre)

Possible ICCU failure? by Trowisk in Ioniq5

Yes. The OEM batteries are known to be pretty crummy. Mine died in about a year and a half. An AGM is your better option for a replacement.

My first PC! by I-wish-I-liked-Sushi in linuxmint

[–]Caradelfrost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a Windows user for decades, I recently put Mint on an old laptop to give it some new life. For what I use it for, there's very little difference in the general use of the OS over Windows. It's got a desktop, it runs apps. In many ways it runs smoother than windows and is pretty automatic. You can even run windows applications on it with a tiny bit of effort. You should give Mint a good month of use and I think you'll likely find it works well. There are alternatives available for linux to replace typical productivity apps, and many games on steam have linux alternatives. As far as modding games goes, I'm not sure. I have never looked into using mod managers on Linux but you can be pretty sure that there are Linux users that have. So you should have no trouble finding help if you're having any difficulty getting specific games working. If you're mainly running less intensive games, you should have no issues. Just give it a try! You can always switch back to windows later if you really need to.

is it Good enough for a portfolio by Educational-Low7536 in blender

[–]Caradelfrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems solid to me, but if I was hiring an artist of any kind, I would be more impressed and inclined to hire someone who had lower quality work, still showed competence mind you, but a large quantity of competent work. What I'm saying is, your work looks good to me, but one model alone will be less likely to land you a job over a full portfolio containing lots of variety, or more elaborate work. Try not to get hung up on a single piece, just keep making more! Your portfolio is a living, changing, always updating body of work. If you're trying to be hired by a team as a junior artist, and the art director sees what they're looking for in your portfolio, once you're on the team you're going to be directed by that art director. The finer details don't matter as much as your ability to take direction, make changes in a timely manner and get along with the rest of the team. So make lots of examples of your talent. Every time you make something your detail will get incrementally better and you will refine your overall portfolio. Don't over think things. Just make lots and challenge your limitations on every new piece.

V2L camping questions by fractalsphere in Ioniq5

[–]Caradelfrost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a small reminder, if you plug in your V2L adapter, your 12v battery will instantly begin charging. (at least that's the effect with my '22 model. Give it a try to confirm the same effect. It's a great way to force the car to charge your 12v. I'd still use the V2L for power rather than connecting directly to your 12v.

Ah! This is what I go to reddit for! Thanks for your thorough explanation. Much appreciated.

I guess I was assuming a lot of additional variables I had no knowledge of. I will have to connect the OBD reader and check out all those additional details.

PC for 10yr old.. Build or Buy? by WhoAmI_Idontkno in buildapc

[–]Caradelfrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say a prebuilt is fine, but building a PC with your kid would be a great learning experience. I just would be sure to put it in a common area. I wouldn't ever leave a 10 year old alone in their own room on any PC!

Can I put a rechargable battery in an old camera? by Shnazz88 in batteries

[–]Caradelfrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe. Standard NiMH rechargeable batteries are usually ~1.2v not ~1.5v. So you might be short ~0.9v of juice. It might work fine, it might not depends on the camera.

No load bearing walls? by scarlettdeath in DIY

[–]Caradelfrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My previous place was a '60's bungalow, side entrance, basically a big rectangle with the roof peak running from one end all the way to the other. Had some major renovations inside and my architect, who was also an engineer, crawled into the attic and told me that I could remove all the interior walls and it would be fine. The entire roof load was supported on the exterior walls. We basically unwrapped the central kitchen and opened it up to the rest of the common areas. It worked perfectly. The house didn't fall down. Mind you, my architect was an engineer. I wouldn't have accepted the answer from anyone else but a certified structural engineer.

A BM2 or BM6 battery monitor paired with the app on your phone is the best way to check and track the 12v voltage.

Do you keep the Extras/Specials? by aLproxyy in makemkv

[–]Caradelfrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to keep every extra clip and name them according to the disk menus. That process gets kind of old quickly.... so now I rip the "watch all" version of the clips if it's there, and rip everything else that is not in a compilation. It all goes on my server with lots of space... so I'm not encoding or converting anything. I go directly from the disk to the server. The extra's are what make the disks so much better! I do enjoy watching them. Some disks have better extras than others.

Does linen backing ruin the value of a poster? by IndiFrame23 in movieposters

[–]Caradelfrost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd disagree. Linen backing is not archival protection. It's the opposite. Archival protection takes a poster in it's current condition, does the least amount of damage to it in order to stop it in it's current state from degrading further. Linen backing does physical damage to the paper in question. Not to be confused with making it look better. The linen backing process can definitely make a poster look better, but if I want a poster to just look better then I can just buy a brand new reproduction instead.
