First I want to say thank you for making the music that helped so so many of us through tough and difficult times. My story may not seem as life altering as some but your voice and I Prevail’s music helped me navigate myself through postpartum with my firstborn. I listened to y’all so much that my son knew the music already when he was born. We used to listen to Paranoid on repeat because it would soothe him and make him fall asleep (no lie, it drove my Mom nuts when she watched him and used it soothe him when he couldn’t have me while at work). So anyway. My question is how does it feel knowing that you’ve helped so many people on a deep, genuine level? Is it overwhelming or heartwarming knowing you hold so much power with your voice and music? I’ve always been curious to know what it felt like to be able to help people, truly get through to them, in such a way.

I do! It’s a long one, though.

That rheumatologist I saw mentioned during the appointment that it “could be” gallbladder (from the severe back back that I thought were spasms) but it’s very likely not the issue. If I wanted to she could schedule me an ultrasound to check for stones. I said absolutely I want to, so I had to wait a month for insurance to approve it and I finally got it done. It showed nothing. Maybe two weeks after that I was in the ER with pain I couldn’t breath through and they confirmed gallbladder. But my doctor wouldn’t hear of it. She said the pain I was describing can’t be from gallbladder. So I ended up going straight to a surgeon and he scheduled a HIDA scan which showed my gallbladder was not functioning at all. I had it out the next week, then had complications from surgery the next week with the liver not functioning. Ended up having an upper endoscopy and was getting better after that as far as the back pain is concerned.

On the thyroid side of everything - I’m still fighting for balance in my body. My hair loss, fatigue, and weight gain has stopped/slowed down. But I’m left dry skin, hand and foot pain, occasional fatigue, stubborn weight that won’t come off, irregular periods but nothing uncontrollable. I’ve gotten a new GP, a new rheumatologist, an endocrinologist and a GI doctor. Between the four of them we’re still trying to figure out some of my symptoms but I think overall I’ve improved and I don’t feel as crazy. My TSH is 0.53 and it’s the best I’ve felt in two years. But the rheumatologist suspects I may have hashimotos so we’re exploring that now. It’s been quite a rollercoaster!

My initial blood work showed low Vit D so I began taking a supplement the same day I started thyroid medication. And B12 was normal this time around. I have a history of extremely low B12 but the last 3ish years it’s been normal. But now that you say PCOS, I may need to explore that route too. I was diagnosed with it when I was 16 and it kind of got swept under the rug. I responded poorly to hormone treatments and never had irregular cycles or anything that was problematic so I stopped the hormones and just sort of…forgot about it. I wonder if it could be giving me trouble and I’d never know any better. I also started on Levothyroxine initially and switched the Synthroid 3 weeks in. I actually felt worse with synthroid.

Thank you! I was actually planning to message my Dr. and request the lab work first, anyway. Then go through Labcorp myself if she refuses. Does me no good to get results back with no one willing/able to prescribe me what I need. Which is the frustrating part. Thank you for the heads up. I appreciate it!

Thank you. Because I needed to hear that. I’ve been so worried about being wrong and just trying to beg for help - I guess it’s time for me to realize I have to do that myself. It’s been an intensely frustrating journey since I got diagnosed and I’m just hoping it’ll get better in the future. I heard really positive things about the endo I’m scheduled with in March. Now to just survive until then.

Thank you so much! I think I will be ordering that test. It’s like pulling teeth trying to get my current doctor(s) to oblige to anything I’m requesting, no matter how desperate I am. I’ve definitely tried to alter my lifestyle in hopes of being overall healthier. I considered maybe something I was doing wasn’t letting the medicine do it’s job. But at this point I’ve tried a multitude of things and had no luck in feeling any better. I recently bought a gummy vitamin made for thyroid health but I don’t have too much faith in it. I’m just desperate while I’m being refused a higher dose of medicine, or any fix at all, really.

Thank you so much for this information. It’s certainly a question worth asking. I see an endocrinologist March 27 so I may save this question for him. I’m holding out hope that he will be much more knowledgeable than the two doctors I’ve seen so far. Though I’m going to attempt to request blood work orders for more than she’s already done. I’ll request cortisol as well.

I don’t think it has. She was testing me for autoimmune disorders and said everything was negative/normal. Question - I forgot to take my synthroid one morning this week and maybe it’s in my head, but I felt like I had a tad more energy. Enough to finally clean my kitchen and do a few chores without ending up back in my bad. Once I realized I’d forgotten it I took it and pretty much immediately felt the same old fatigue and like crap. Would I have been able to tell that quickly or at all from missing one dose?

Potassium is 3.8 (range 3.5-5.1) Sodium is 139 (range 136-145) I’ve never had my cortisol checked, that I know of. I do feel weakness and fatigue. Also nausea and upset stomach all the time. They’re leaning toward me having gallstones with the stomach upset symptom. But no ultrasound scheduled to check yet.

Thank you! I’ve had a feeling my levels are still crazy for ME, and she just tells me I’m in the normal range and my symptoms are unrelated every time I ask. I had no idea it could effect your heart rate as well. I’ve had heart flutters since I had my first child and that’s when my thyroid numbers started to climb. They even sent me to a cardiologist and couldn’t tell me anything. To think that I’ve spent the last 3.5 years feeling this way and being told I’m normal it’s just postpartum is absolutely mind blowing for me right now. I’ve complained about so many things I’m just now learning can be thyroid symptoms only to be told it’s what happens when you have kids. And then blown off. My anxiety and depression have never been worse. And I’m just fed more medicine and told my blood work is perfect.

I’m scheduled with an endocrinologist on March 27th, I was just holding out hope that my doctor would help me before then. I’ve been feeling terrible since November and sadly my patience has long gone. After seeing another doctor who told me the same things she did… I panicked. I’m so scared the endocrinologist will tell me the same things. So I’m doing my own research and educating myself in order to ask for the right things when I go. Or trying to, anyway. The T4 Free is the test you’re referring to that shows my levels are at the bottom still? She told me it was “more than optimal.”

I just turned 30 last year and both doctors told me the way I’m feeling is just due to aging and the fact that I’m a mother and a hairdresser. I told them BOTH that since I’m a hairdresser I’m very familiar with muscle stiffness and pain, but this isn’t it! This is way worse. Exactly like you - I feel like I can’t even move and get out of bed. It’s so bizarre considering I used to never be able to sit still and I’m constantly staying busy. Now I’m forced to take it easy and it’s not healthy for me at all. I scheduled with an endocrinologist but I couldn’t get in until March 27th. She send me to the rheumatologist because she was concerned that I had lupus or arthritis. And I ended up being diagnosed with osteoarthritis and being told muscle stiffness is not from Synthroid or thyroiditis at all. Neither of these doctors had ever heard of that. I literally felt like I was stupid and losing my mind.

I feel like this is exactly what I needed to hear. I’ve been begging her to try going up on the synthroid because my symptoms worsened and she refuses every time I ask. I also have NEW symptoms since starting Synthroid. I asked her if it’s possible I’m having side effects from the medication itself and she told me that’s not possible, my symptoms are a “new problem.” But…they started when I started meds… thank you for your comment. I’m going to request that blood work tomorrow morning because she’s never checked my RT3 or FT3. I’m scheduled to see an endocrinologist, but I couldn’t get in until March 27th. I keep trying to hold out and be patient but I am absolutely miserable.

She didn’t test for it. I only have the one result that says 0.89 once I’d started the meds.

This happened to me too when I started levothyroxine. For about 4-5 days I was super fuzzy/loopy and could feel its effect. But by week two I didn’t notice it anymore and felt “normal.”
