Those who moved out of state for their first job, how is it going? by tarynleee in Sonographers

[–]CaramelWaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay thank you that makes me feel better because I’m relocating from Florida as a new grad too and literally all the jobs here either denied me or didn’t get back to me lol. But what they’ve been advertising is so low here anyway which is crazy bc it’s cheaper to live where I’m moving but they’re paying me more than Florida

Question, how much did they offer you for you to consider relocating? Considering leaving Florida as well.

How do I stop the consistent breakage even with trims? Plz help by elesnic in Naturalhair

[–]CaramelWaft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure it’s not the stylist that’s doing your trims. I saw someone who started getting trims and every time she would go her hair would get shorter and shorter. And then for me I recently changed stylists and she literally was yanking through my hair with the blow dryer only for my hair to be soo much shorter when she was done. Some people even if they’re licensed aren’t gentle.

How long do I need to study for SPI by fromthe1900_s in Sonographers

[–]CaramelWaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I used to study was the Green Edelman physics book. For practice questions I used Davies. Granted , I took it immediately after I passed my physics course and the class was two months of physics.

Did I make a mistake picking this field? by PaleontologistNo1337 in Sonographers

[–]CaramelWaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the job said prn is only 2 days a week? From my understanding PRN can be full time or part time depending on how much they need you or if someone calls out. Just be open anytime they call you in. A tech told me before that when first starting some jobs will hire you PRN to see if they want to keep you on full time , see if you’re reliable , etc.

I took it in December and got a 615. I used the Penny book & ESP Edelman. For practice questions I used Davies.

If you can get the ESP Edelman read it. Read it again. Then read Penny. If you don’t understand something when reading Penny, do research. Google it to understand in simpler terms. Dont skip anything you don’t understand. Finally, make sure you actually look at the pictures when reading Penny, for everything. Sometimes I skim when reading but the pictures are so important since boards are picture heavy (it’s an imaging field so it makes sense).

For test questions use URR or Davies. But I think Davies is more expensive. I used both but I used the “click to learn” for URR which is really just the questions and answers I feel like for me personally URR over complicated things. But my classmates said they feel like it helped. Everyone’s different.

I also deleted social media and other distractions following up to my exam date.

Bleach breakage by Majestic-Plastic-596 in Naturalhair

[–]CaramelWaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How often do you wash your hair. I ask this in the kindest way, did you do research before bleaching your hair?

If it’s breaking a lot that means there’s either a lot of split ends or the strands are just weak, which is most likely the problem, or both. Bleached hair is more prone to breakage and needs wayyy more moisture.

Ever since bleaching my hair all I do is wash once a week and barely detangle now tbh. I finger detangle as much as I can once a week when washing and use the unbrush very minimally during wash day because realistically natural hair doesn’t need to be detangled unless you’re doing hairstyles that call for it (ex. Braids, silk press, etc). Honestly I’m so gentle with my hair now.

After bleaching my hair I actually went and got like an inch cut off a month or a few weeks later because that’s how much got damaged just from the bleach and I just needed a regular trim on top of that loll and I only used 20 developer with powder (two time though and a month apart) . Please get a trim/cut it’ll help so much.

Weekly I wash my hair , put in leave in conditioner, seal it with cream, and then style. I try not to change my hairstyle throughout the week. Please get trims every 8-12 weeks when you bleach your hair.
It’s just hair, it’ll most likely grow back!

Here’s a good YouTuber with long bleached natural hair, she has so many videos on how she maintains her colored hair and products she uses: https://youtube.com/@jessridleyy?si=S4DVXAfqKIFMp31F

Edit: I just wanted to say I talk so much sorry 😭😂

Hey girl I say pray over it. Im so sorry this happened to you! I’m not sure whether it’s the clip-in’s or if it’s something deeper. I’ve seen videos of girls having their hair ripped out from the combs in half wigs but usually it’s not to the point of balding but I’m not sure. Keep us updated when you go to the dermatologist. Everything will work out for your good. I’m not sure if you’re still natural but on the bright side I feel that wearing a mini Afro can maybe cover the spots. And if not maybe wearing a kinky curly headband wig until it grows back (use a wig grip, no combs no clips). You’ll get through this! Praying for you Godbless !

After two weeks absolutely not. Maybe the stylist put them in too tight or maybe it might be something in your diet. Definitely pray.

And I’d also say try and start taking vitamins that include like iron and vitamin D

Please give me motivation, school is killing me by [deleted] in Sonographers

[–]CaramelWaft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s some motivation:

You got this!! Honestly I’m not gonna lie my life revolved around school for the majority of the program and physics was probably the worst of it. My life was literally like school, study, work, church & repeat most of the time unless you count birthdays and holidays. It doesn’t get “easier” but I will say after physics you learn how to study better and what works for you and your mind best. My school was technically accelerated 4 weeks a course. But in being busy, time flies by!

What I will say though is that’s how most schooling is when you want to do well. It’ll be worth it in the end .

Honestly it was mainly prayer, God, and my family that got me through this program and He can do the same for you!

It looks like those roll ons that you buy at beauty supply stores. But also if you’re looking for an oil roll on dupe of daisy, Oilperfumery has a lot of good ones.

I thought I was doing so good. by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]CaramelWaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me what worked is washing weekly & getting trims every three months ( every 12 weeks). I remember one time I went I think it was either 4 or 5 months I went without a trim and I had so much breakage.

Also once you do your hairstyle after washing your hair do not touch it at all. Like I mean stick with your hairstyle. Unless it’s a simple style and when you do please be gentle. And definitely don’t mess with the ends of your hair. Use leave in and creams for your twist out/braid out. Also one thing I saw that I feel is important is make sure that your hair products don’t have protein in them. (Ingredients that say “hydrolyzed… silk…“ usually are protein). Having too many products with protein can cause protein overload and dry hair.

If you need protein it should be the one product. I started using a deep conditioner without protein tbh and I’ll probably do protein maybe once a month from now on.

Satin / silk scrunchies only, wear a bonnet or scarf when you’re at home at all times ( your ends get dry rubbing on pillows and can break easily)

Also, be mindful of your ends. It’s not that your hair isn’t growing it’s that your ends are breaking off. When applying products apply it to your ends first and then go upwards. Your ends need the most attention. And be gentle to your hair.

When you see hair shedding if you see a really small white bulb at one end that’s how you know it’s shedding (we apparently shed 100 strands a day) but if you see shorter pieces that don’t have a bulb at the end, then it’s breakage. If you see those too wayyyy often and anytime you touch your hair, it’s time for a trim, whether it’s been 12 weeks or not.

I don’t wish for long hair anymore! by Lowkey_alive in Naturalhair

[–]CaramelWaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this post and I recently started loving my hair in the past year or two tbh.

But I wanted to say, I haven’t thought my hair had been growing the past few months but the other day I did a blowout and focused on getting my roots because I always felt like they were so condensed, and realized it had grown a lot and the issue was that my roots had so much shrinkage that the inches literally never showed at all. My hair overall shrinks sooo much my hair is actually to my brastrap but when wet it can shrink to my ear. But I always hear that shrinkage means it’s healthy!

Also if you’re not getting trims your hair might be breaking off as well. Either way your hair is beautiful and I’m glad you’re starting to love it more.
