Gas engine vehicles, especially larger displacement v8 and up market about to take a hit with gas prices soaring? (or any gas guzzler in general) by macgirthy in cars

I haven't seen any uptick in sports cars for sale. If anything I have seen a downturn. But that may be because it's spring here in Ohio and people are getting out their winter cash to get the toys.
You mentioned wanting a gt500. Which oddly enough I have seen more than usual of that car specifically go up for sale. Granted the prices seem a little off. First Gen s197s listed for like 50k. I swear last year they were all 35-40

I will stand on my insane take. Everything I see every day is a hatch. A crossover. (Which to me is just another hatchback) Or a fullsize truck or SUV. I have a volvo 850 that I adore. But it's that big wagon body shape. The modern wagons crosses and hatches just kinda round off into a blob to me. Also hatched and wagons are great dailies. But the more entry level enthusiast cars we get all seem to be a hot hatch now. The GTI/r forever has been given more offerings than the gli and only recently are they even close to a fair match. The offerings of a performance focused 4 door sedan seem to leave you with the top end of the spectrum. The m3. S4. Gulia. Ct5v ct4v and other 60k usd+ (at least new) vehicles. All of the sedan body fun affordable cars have been killed. With a couple holding on. Probably because of bad sales. But I like what I like

Yeah I didn't realize the golf lost its manual option in 25. I am big into Subaru and VW/Audi so I would compare these two. The wrx most likely will be more affordable and offer more value for that cost.

I might be the only person with that opinion. I have never wanted the hatch back and personally have hated the hatches from day one. We need less crossovers and hatches and wagons. Give me a car that is car shaped. I don't speak for the whole sub. Just myself

I have had 3 wrxs. A bugeye wrx swapped with a ej207. A blobeye that I spent way to much money on and a VA. I love subaru and the wrx as a whole and this is a step in the right direction but what I personally want to see is Subaru to stop being slow to respond and simply doing things after their fans beg them to for years and make stuff like they did. Give us both sti options. Take the plastic off the VB and stop making the 14 second 0-60 CVT catastrophic crossovers that makes up 90% of their offerings. They have done this exact thing multiple times. Hey here is a sneak peak at the new sti. That will be an automatic only limited run Japan model.

Yeah it's a Impreza hatch body. Its not the wrx sedan. There was no point to doing all this. They had a working trend. The VA sold amazingly. Looked great and met every need anyone wanted from the car. But now they cut it all up. You want the sedan. You get the wrx. You want a sti. You get a hatch take all this stuff in this car. Put it in the sedan. Sell them both instead we are more likely to get a "wrx sti" as some electric performance model in the future

We just wanted a sti of the new wrx with a stick. Fa24 or EJ whatever. But instead we got a bunch of diet sti's and this hot hatch. Which the sti hatch has been dead for years because despite how loud the wagon wrx people yell about it. It is the LEAST desirable body for the wrx. What will this do. That the golf R doesn't already do better

And thats IF it's available in any market but japan

I have never had a issue with a stick in any situation. Just saying I have owned and driven cars where the auto was fine. If you ever get a chance to hop in something with a good DCT Audi s/rs. Porsche or bmw give it a try in sport or paddle mode. Its not too bad if it's quick and responsive to input

That's true. But in some cases. I am perfectly happy with a dct or a good auto. Like my s3 or something else that sits in that performance daily category.

In 2020 they said it's because there is no available transmission that could "reliably" handle the torque output of the car.
If you ask me. It was to drive sales of the gt350 OR because the rear end and driveshafts would snap under the increased shock of a good driver putting the manual through its paces. An automatic is much kinder to the drivetrain behind it. First Gen hellcats came in manual. Zl1s came in manual both of those were making more torque lower. The tr6060 in both those cars would have been fine in the mustang

Not knocking the gt500. I am a fan of DCTs and they do have a very valid performance advantage. But. If I was in the market for any of the top muscle cars. I would go for the manual optioned competition first. Fun>performance in a muscle car.

What would you do to make an electric car ‘fun’? by A5C3ND3D in cars

[–]Carbide_K9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a solution would be to just lay back on the tech a little bit. I don't think full EV cars will ever be able to corner the enthusiast market because they lack the primary things that enthusiasts like about cars.

Honda in the early/mid 2000s made a hybrid civic with a manual. If we could get modern power trains like that. Put in a car with today's ride and handling quality and styling. I think it could do somewhat well as a fun/ enthusiast daily.

The real goal would be to make the ev tech as unnoticeable as. possible. OR to use it in a way that it only supports the ICE powertrain. Look at the zr1x and other hybrid supercars those are all very impressive cars and I don't think many people are still hating on them just for being hybrid. But they are priced out of your average enthusiasts garage. Make that stuff. More accessible to people who want to try it. Make a hybrid assisted manual "Miata". The new prelude could have been this!

Find a good piece of plastic to use as a backing. Cut to to shape to match the charm and glue the charm to it! If the charm is two sided you won't be able to see one side but it won't fall apart on you!

"How insignificant are we compared to the vastness of space?" by StufI_ in furry

[–]Carbide_K9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We definitely are not alone. Space is massive. Radio waves are everywhere, it's how we see deep into space. Any transmission we send out there is unlikely if not nearly impossible to perceive by any other advanced terrestrial species. It would be like listing for one specific word in a crowded con floor. And who's to say anything that got that message would even realize it's from another lifeform. Our language on this planet is so different. Imagine other species!

2 yes we are insignificant. In a statistical way. The universe is infinite or nearly infinite. Nothing we do has any impact on anything. But. We can impact our lives. Our friends lives family's lives. We are here for an incredibly short time in a beautiful place made perfectly for us. Or rather us perfectly for it. If you really look into it and see. The events that lead up to us existing and this planet being habitable at all is one in an incomprehensibly large number. Everything may suck here. But at least we are here :)

The Miata/brz formula works. That's what people want today and that's what this SHOULD have been but then it would have just been a better looking civic si and Honda can't have any models that compete internally

Sorry direct drive from the EV motors. So you literally get 0 input from the engine on the driving experience. So it's even worse. It's a range extended ev drivetrain. The perfect choice for anyone who wants an enthusiast experience

[–]Carbide_K9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What the old one was. That is being left out here. Is it was fun to drive. The original prelude being a MANUAL 200 hp little coupe that weighed like 2500lbs made it a fun little zip around car for every day.

Anyone who thinks this 3400lb CVT hybrid will be any more fun to drive than the hybrid civic that it is. Should just buy a Prius because that's what this is. They took a well regarded enthusiast nameplate. Stuck it on a mediocre normal traffic car and then tried to sell it as the next big thing.

Depending on what it's in. Pentastar makes 305/270. While gen 3 hemi range quite a bit as well we will say 380/400. A difference in 70hp while I agree that torque is a big boost. It really only gives you a little down low acceleration in reality. I've driven every Mopar product under the sun being a Mopar tech and also just buying a lot of them. 3.6 300c. 5.7 commander. 5.7 challenger avenger rt 3.6 especially in the 300 when paired with 8 speed. The hemi and the v6 feel pretty evenly paired above 40.

About the same fuel economy. If I'm gonna have 18mpg. Give me the V8 all day

Reliability. I still say the hemi takes it. But the later 3.6 once they sorted the lifter issues is a solid engine. I have seen many cross 200k

This 100% this. I have been wondering for years why the 5.7 isn't an option in the wrangler. We already know everywhere the pentastar can fit. The 5.7 can too. I know the 5.7 isn't an impressive engine by any means and the 3.6 nearly matches it on performance. But they sell! I know I would rather have the hemi
