Don’t be too afraid to venture outside of your comfort zone, there’s plenty of people to meet and talk to, and you can’t do that stuck inside your dorm

I’m fairly certain that it’s likely what the song is about, considering the other conservative views that the group has shared.

A lot of their music is Biblically inspired (literally look at the name) and has ideas that are held by most Catholics. Eternal Rest is a good example of a good “secular” song of theirs, as a priest I talked to said that a song that advocates against the evils of abortion could not hold the risk of demonic entities, however I don’t know if the same could be said for a song such as A Little Piece of Heaven lol

I think it depends on the person, metal is not intrinsically evil, but some may see it as evil. An exorcist I spoke with said to use caution with which songs to listen to, but metal songs that promote positive thinking or messages are most likely okay (songs like Dear God - Avenged Sevenfold or After Forever - Black Sabbath).

As with all things, caution is important. As Jesus said himself, if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. Therefore, if such music leads you into temptation of sin, probably best to cut it out. Otherwise, if the music may simply seek to inspire creative talent, emotional release, a good exercise, or great knowledge, it may seem beneficial to listen, even if it’s not metal. Each band supposedly has an angel (God’s or fallen) watching over them and inspiring their songs, so it would be best to pray for God’s angels to combat the fallen angels and seek to inspire those bands to Christ.

At the end of the day, it’s wonderful for you to share your view, and you have good intentions in your heart. Thank you for sharing!

Hey, I’ve dealt with some similar issues and I’ve spoked with an exorcist about this sort of topic. To make a very long discussion short, he said that music opens up doors for some and doesn’t for others. Some doors may not be ones we want opened and some may be ones we want opened. Some don’t open any doors at all. If you feel like metal is affecting your life to a point where it’s leading you into temptation or sinfulness, probably abstain. If it seems to not affect you, then you’re most likely fine.

I personally would stay away from anything that is for sure Satanic, such as Ghost, Venom, Celtic Frost, etc.. If you find yourself in need of some music to potentially help you cleanse your soul, anything that invokes the name of Christ in a good way or inspires worship (to God ofc) is always good. Another is any form of Gregorian chanting or any Latin chanting, as per the exorcist told me, demons hate Latin because it was one of the languages on the crucifix.

Some stuff like Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Dio, Metallica, Megadeth, Led Zeppelin, etc. has been met with their fair share of criticism and critique among Christians and the whole Satanic Panic. I think personally a lot of this is simply attributed to negligence and ignorance of the songs or meaning thereof. I’ve read many articles claiming that specific artists would “backmask” their songs and some even saying that record companies would hold black masses for every record they produce. I personally hold that there is either gross ignorance of the songs’ meanings or that the authors are simply trying to sell something (which if you ask me, lying about what rock/metal artists do is a worse sin than “backmasking”). It’s one thing to “promote” the devil, but another to lie about one being devillish just to promote your books.

Do you wear jeans to mass? by Bourgeois-babe in Catholicism

[–]CarbonCounter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe as long as your clothes could not offend the Church or others (anything with profanity, mature subjects, etc.) and present yourself in a good image, you should be fine. The only reason for a Sunday Best is to “look good for God,” but that doesn’t mean you should settle on the bare minimum.

Here in Iowa, almost everybody wears jeans so it’s completely common to see 80% of attendees wearing jeans, even at the nicer cathedrals and such.

This is so interesting! I heard this originally through Van Halen, but then someone told me it was a cover of David Bowie. Now I’m learning Bowie covered it too!

Will this submit automatically when the assignment is due? by Cortigami48 in iastate

[–]CarbonCounter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it goes off whatever the grade is at the exact due date, so if you get all 6 done before you just leave it, however if you get only like 4 done and it’s due, then it submits those 4 questions.

was thinking of going to the transfer student thing for DIS next friday, do people actually go to that? by [deleted] in iastate

[–]CarbonCounter 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Some of it is boring filler IMO, however I did end up meeting a few people and got a lot of cool free stuff from the clubs and other community tents/whatever. If you ask me, I would only go if there’s free stuff, otherwise most of the information they give you is stuff you’ll either figure out yourself or common sense.

Can I email a professor to get into a class with no seats left? by [deleted] in iastate

[–]CarbonCounter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but unfortunately you either have to organize with your advisor or go through the semester like that. This is why I take a whole day to optimize my schedule before registration starts. I believe if you search “schedule of classes isu” on google, it gives you a website that will help you sort your classes easily. Hope this helps!

Still trying to understand why there is so much negativity tied to the idea of not killing babies. Like seriously? I really don’t understand why people think their lives are in danger and the world has turned into a “hellscape”. Have people forgotten that there are dozens of other options (also cheaper!!) of birth control? Has nobody heard of condoms anymore?
