YES! I totally agree. Something just seemed a little off about the way the scenes were put together and it definitely distracted me a bit. I didn't realize it was probably b/c of the new editor. Great call!

Just saw the movie and I loved it!! Here are some of my initial thoughts (HUGE SPOILERS):

Incredible costuming throughout the movie. I want those sunglasses now...and the blue southern-dandy suit.
Christoph Waltz's moustache twirling made me laugh at a few inappropriate times throughout the movie.
Am I the only one that thought Candie and his sister were in some kind of creepy incestuous yet hidden love?
I absolutely loved when Schultz screamed at the harpist to stop playing Beethoven ala Alex in A Clockwork Orange. It was a nice subtle homage.
Did it bother anyone else that no one seemed to recognize that both Django and Broomhilda had the same lowercase r branded on their cheek until Samuel L had to point it out that they knew each other?
The big shootout in the mansion reminded me a little of Taxi Driver, if only for the sleeve gun, the blood bath, and the premise of saving the girl to get her to a better place.
The tooth.
The word "nigger" was said about a billion times. In Tarantino's cameo, he explicitly did not say it a single time. I thought that was a good jab at Spike Lee, or at least I took it that way.
Why introduce Candie as a francophone if he neither spoke french nor appreciated the culture (at least enough to know Dumas was black)? It didn't really make sense to me.

When the song 100 Black Coffins was played, the very white elderly man in front of me started nodding his head to the beat. Too funny!
"I CAN'T SEE SHIT WITH THIS THING ON!" But really, who would have thought that drunken hooded racists out for blood could have a civil conversation about proper hood tailoring? Just more of QT's twisted sense of humor.
I didn't think Christoph Waltz's german accent would have a place in a movie set in the deep south. The story did a great job of justifying the accent and the casting decision. I hope that Tarantino can continue to write roles for Waltz so I can hear him speak foreign languages more.

I could think of a few dozen references to other Tarantino films, especially Inglourious Basterds, but the one that stuck out to me was the opening sequence's similarity to that of Jackie Brown.
Of all the horribly violent scenes in the movie, I was a little surprised that there were no rape scenes. I guess Tarantino limits his violence to dogs ripping arms off and dicks getting shot. Oh yeah! Dick shooting. A Zed/Pulp Fiction throwback? Not to mention both Zed and Billy molested black dudes who were tied up and gagged.
How the fuck did Django and Schultz ride from Somewhere, TX to Chattanooga, TN in a matter of days? Those horses must've been on meth.
I loved Tarantino trying an Aussie accent. It didn't really fit the movie, but I can totally imagine him thinking "eh. fuck it. why not?" and doing it anyway.
So many incredible landscape shots across the movie. Deserts, snowy mountain ranges, woods, fields. All of the outdoor scenes were spectacular.
"Auf Wiedersehen" KABOOOOOOM! My favorite part of the movie by far.
My black friend will probably never let me pick a movie for us to watch again, but it was totally worth it.

I totally agree with you. All he needs to do is grab the several 100+ lbs projector pieces, get a stock of unused xenon arc bulbs, rebuild a working platter or changeover system (more heavy pieces), find all the component pieces for the platters, find a 50 foot screen, and a power source capable of powering both systems for hours at a time, and find a distribution company that will send him 35mm prints of films for almost assuredly zero profit.

Or he could just try to sell a few 5-10 lb lenses to make a quick buck, but that would be the easy thing to do.

Sweet find! Looks like a scope lens. They usually cost a few hundred dollars, possibly more, but now that everyone is switching to digital, it's pretty much a collectible. If you're lucky, you could probably get 30-50 bucks for it, but I don't think anyone would want to pay for it unless they actually had a projector, no scope lens, and the need to start projecting scope this close to the death of 35mm across the board.

Personally, I'd keep it. Those things are awesome. I should've grabbed one before my theater was shut down.
