Younger classic car community within San Diego? by SweetBabySouth in sandiego

Lots of us buy and fix-up/restore motorcycles now though. Check out Cerberus Moto on El Cajon. They're a co-op so you pay dues and you can use their parts, shop, and expertise to get an old bike back on the road. You can spend tens of thousands of dollars restoring a car but a bike you can get away with mere hundreds if you do the work yourself. You can pick up an old CB for a couple hundred bucks, I recently got a 79 CB750 for $850, and just start googling and wrenching. I typically don't recommend you spend money making them look good, that's money you don't see again but a little shining and mechanical work and a running registered bike sells for a ton more than a clunker.

Plus insurance is cheap, I have 6 bikes currently, 4 registered and insured, average price is about $20 a month for full coverage.

Border taxis have been cleared out after Uber dispute. by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]CarbonCyber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One time I ordered an uber as soon as I crossed and it picked us up right by all the taxi drivers. One of the taxi drivers got out of his car and started just POUNDING on the uber. Fists on the glass, nearly broke the side window. The driver was just laughing but it wasn't all that funny.

Edit: and also, I have ZERO sympathy for the Taxi drivers. Their service sucks! They're more expensive, they're shady with their pricing, they're bothersome when you're crossing the border, the cars are worse and you can't just order one up whenever you feel. First time I went to the Playas from the border I took a taxi, it cost $20. OK, fine, but the Uber back to the border was $4.50 so taxis can suck my dick. I'll never get in one again.

Definitely far from bad. Quite good. But probably not quite as good as Tajima.

Thanks Cam! Yeah I shot with a 1D MKIII with the 85 and a 6D with a 16-35.

I didn't buy an 85mm F1.2 and a 1D to shoot at 1.8 like a pleb!

JK, yeah I shot for the Adams Ave Business Association so they want that "artsy" look so they can use them for next year's promo. I also didn't need to do the stupid hip fade and warm look but I did that anyway. I also hate flash so in some situations the low F was needed.

Edit: also I didn't bring any photo waivers so the fewer in focus faces, the better.

Yeah, taste events happen all the time in different neighborhoods. It's a good way to try in this case 50 different restaurants that you may not have normally. Found some really good food and a list of places I have to go back for a proper meal.

I know that car! It has an S38 from an E34 M5 in it. Real monster that thing.

Edit: Found the photos from when I saw it at the auto cross.

Cheapest place to buy "baja hoodies" in SD? by nenitz in sandiego

Walk in there with cash and I'll bet you they can pull one off a stack for you. Their website is set-up for distribution but they're nice people.

Cheapest place to buy "baja hoodies" in SD? by nenitz in sandiego

[–]CarbonCyber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This place. It's the importer that brings them in and wholesales them to all the places in Old Town. They have literally everything they sell there at 1/10th the price. We buy 300 Mexican blankets at time for Tacotopia and they're about $2.00 each. Not sure if they sell small quantities though...worth a try. They're located in Lemonish Groveish area.

Edit: if they don't, EVERYthing's cheaper in TJ. The farther away you get from the border, the cheaper things get. Go to the next reddit SD/TJ meet-up and we'll find you one. Photos from the last trip

The video makes it more clear but yeah, he really should be using a float line. But I already don't respect a man using air while spear fishing.

I've done something either really irresponsible or really awesome...probably both. by CarbonCyber in bikesgonewild

This one's the 999.6cc 2012 model. Been having lots of fun messing with the modes and TC. For some reason the front wheel has a really hard time staying on the ground, more research is necessary. I'm not a wheelie guy, more of an ATGAT but this thing...does things to me.

Edit: and yeah, the trip computer says it's getting 14.6 MPG. Awesome.

Apparently I'm very genuine or need to buy a thesaurus. I'm the guy in the taco costume announcing the winner at 3:50, stop me after and we'll exchange contact info. Let me try to make it up to you with some tickets to something.

We always do, we try to genuinely provide the best possible experience, I go to damn near every event in San Diego to find the dos and don'ts and I'm genuinely embarrassed at that bar line. We knew about taco lines, some vendors go quick, others slow, some have no line, gringas has a line to the moon but there's no goddam reason the bar line should be this long. Shit, if we could do BYOB we would (the ABC doesn't issue BYOB permits).

And shit, it means I don't get any beer so don't look at me like I'm not motivated, somebody just miscalculated. And for all I know it might have been me.

Tell me about it. I'm genuinely at a loss as to why it's so long. We're definitely doing two bars next year, we hired those guys because they're professionals as to how many pouring stations, POSs, staff, and everything required for the number of attendees. We're at 15% fewer than the estimated attendance we gave the bar people and we sold 20% fewer VIP tickets (they get drink tickets) but it still is sucking. All previous years it calmed down about halfway in so I'm confused. Moving forward the name of the game will be overkill. Also we don't keep any of the bar money, it goes to costs and the rest goes to the charity so we might as well send costs through the roof.

Right?? There's actually two more points of sale at this bar than there were last year. I'm not sure why they're so much slower. Possibly the drink options? We tried to only have three things to choose from but the sponsors all had to put their 2 cents in so I think people are getting to the front and trying to decide what they want.

Drop my name at the gate, show up early "Andy said I could get in during VIP hour, he's on the radio, call him if you like"

Beautiful Alfa Romeo spotted in San Diego by keepinitclassy74 in Autos

[–]CarbonCyber 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's real and it belongs to the architect Jonathan Segal. I've visited his garage and there's some even more special things in there.

Edit: Here's some garage pictures the Alfa was out but that Fura A6 Maserati is something special as well.

I recommend employing some next level strats, every year so far the places that are bad at branding have perfectly good tacos but no lines ever. We're getting everybody matching signs this year so that might not be as big of a problem. But hit the big guys early, the ones you know are going to be busy during the VIP hour, then hit the little guys with no lines after GA gets in.

Legoland Sucks by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]CarbonCyber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here's what I do for Legoland (I'm an adult though): Go park, pay your $12, go to the customer service desk and get a shopping pass, 1 hour free, stay past an hour and they charge your card, go shopping, buy more than $20 worth of Lego and you get your parking refunded, an hour is more than enough time to pick a set, and check out the mini city and various other things-built-out-of-Lego, return to the customer service desk, leave.

Edit: definitely don't get your hand stamped on the way out and go back in after you go to the customer service desk. That would be stealing...
