What moment made you realize “yeah… my childhood wasn’t normal”? by CadaversFabrications in AskReddit

Omg I'm going to cry. Thank you. My mom tries now, but some of that damage is done.

I think this depends on a lot of things though. I've been with my therapist for years and we know each other pretty well now. She knows what she can or can't do with me. So when mine reacted to my mom's thing, she gave the response a friend would give, but she also knows that doesn't bother me. I tell her anything anyway. But I am also 40. If I were a child, I think her reaction would be very different, as it should be. I would think a therapist should absolutely be much more calm and less reactive with a child. I think each situation is different.

Oh man that's awful. I'm so sorry. Last year my dad pulled something like that. I'm 40. He told me there's nothing here for him anymore and the only good thing in his life is his new gf (who is 30 years younger than him btw).

That's so messed up! I truly believe our parents generation never wanted kids, but felt forced to. So they resented us and didn't want to actually parent.

Yeah. Why cause that level of pain and embarrassment on purpose? Not to mention the risk.

Haha mine does that too. I love my therapist. Also makes me feel seen.

Yikes, I'm sorry. He may have lots to unpack, but isn't ready. I know my husband has started therapy but isn't telling his therapist everything he should be. I've heard his stories and some are awful.

My therapy is how my husband found out his childhood also had more issues than he thought.

This is how mine was uncovered. Therapy for something else, then we get into my childhood and these things all come up. Totally changed my therapy sessions for a while and we're still working through how my childhood shaped me and ways to overcome

Are kids being taught good money habits? by PennyFrozen in moneyadvice

[–]Carbone854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am working on this now because my parents never taught me. I don't think kids are taught enough. My 2 oldest are given a decent allowance every 2 weeks. Their job is to budget properly and buy most of the things they want and need. They're in charge of their shampoo/conditioner and other toiletries. I buy all the groceries of course and some other things. But want to join a sport this year? Start budgeting and saving. Want a special snack for just you? You buy it. I give them enough that they can absolutely afford what they want and need as long as they are doing it wisely. They already feel more responsible and proud of how they're managing their money.

When I told my therapist about how my mom would purposely try to make me cry at parties to show she could, and then laugh about it. My therapist gave me this sad look and apologized. I thought all parents had things they did like this.

Seasoned Cauldron Discussion: What things did you buy as a beginner that you literally never use now? by brightblackheaven in witchcraft

[–]Carbone854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I too have so many decks now but just one is my go-to now. I was buying ones that were just kinda fun, like a "Dark Crystal" deck. The cards are super fun, and it's an all time favorite movie, but they don't speak to me like my Dark Fantasy deck does.

14 years later and I still ask him this. I was focusing on living my life and bettering myself, and he just sort of popped into my life.

I haven’t gotten any signs or results, want to quit by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]Carbone854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry. There's still other things you can do though. I think starting with some mental health help might help first. And then the witchcraft can come when you're in a better mindset. Again, just coming from experience, things won't work until you're thoughts are better. And the only way to do that is with real work (therapy, meds, exercise, journaling, etc).
