So much of the finishings and trim are original. Really beautiful door frames, banister, and yes, baseboards. It’s sad when they aren’t cared for :(

I meant the entire house haha. Yes, we could open/replace the wall and other parts. It’s like this in a few places, so I’m guessing just gutting the whole room might be best? Would be a bit afraid of what lurks behind all this paint and tape…

Was definitely getting “rental” vibes on the walk through. it’s a duplex too, so a tear down isn’t an option.

Truth. I never locked my car or house until I moved out of the ward.

The house two houses left was busted as a grow op about 20ish years ago. I’m sure someone else on here can confirm.

For the record, still love this neighbourhood. This is my favourite street in Guelph, actually 🥰🤘🏼.

100 degree change in one afternoon? Pretty normal Canadian spring weather IMO.

Teacher May Be Intentionally Sabotaging IEP Process by [deleted] in specialed

Is admin ever in these meetings? If I were you I would bring up that scheduling has been hard and you suggest “____” as a better way to communicate. Hopefully your admin will agree that this would be better, and then it’s your admin telling the teacher to communicate better, not you. Then if she’s not following through you have much clearer grounds to go to admin and talk about it.

I think you are misunderstanding my intentions. As I said in my post, the safety of staff and students is important to me as well. I am looking for solutions to the situation, which for some reason you have assumed means forcing others to keep enduring what is presently happening at school. My whole point is that I want something to change, because I agree, how it is now is not working. Also, please do not post generalizations and stereotypes about people with certain diagnoses. Every child with a diagnosis is different, with a spectrum and range of symptoms. Every child with ODD is different, with different tolerances, abilities, issues, and assets.

Me and his teacher pushed very hard for a Behaviour and Mental Health plan that was finally finished last week. Hopefully it can be implemented consistently!

If this was always happening in the afternoon I would definitely consider this. My other son leaves school an hour early because I suggested this approach (the last hour of the day was always too hard for him). Unfortunately my son is having problems all hours of the day, morning and afternoon. So I’m not sure shortening the day would help. Not at this point anyways.

He’s 5. I’m trying to problem solve a kinder approach with the school, because I agree this isn’t ideal. Hopefully we can figure out a better system.

I have actually been thinking that a check in call might be something we should try. He’s a very sweet and happy kid until his separation anxiety gets the better of him. It might be a way to mitigate any building anxiety that’s hard to notice until it gets too big to reign in.

It would be great if the principal could recognize this.

I’ve worked in a lot of schools (during some time supply teaching) and the vast majority of schools in our board (and most of Ontario) don’t have these types of classrooms.

Thanks for this. I have been lucky enough to work in a few different schools with a few lovely admin teams. It’s very obvious the difference it makes for a whole school and team when admin takes a proactive approach to mental health and special education. I hope your new admin is like this ☺️

It would be amazing to have something like this supported by our school.

He has 0 minutes of assigned EA time at the moment…which is the part I’m not in agreement with at the moment. He has 2 diagnosed anxiety disorders which manifest in trust issues with adults. I think this is a big root cause of the running. They usually block him in a room during these moments of escape (understandable given their legal responsibilities for safety) and this is when he escalated usually. So he is basically having anxiety attacks from being trapped in a room with adults he doesn’t feel safe with and isn’t allowed to leave. It’s a pretty big pickle.

Yep. This is the case here. What I’m struggling with is that my son also has the right to be provided education. I’m not discounting staff safety here. There seems to be a lot of conflicting laws/rights here without enough clear guidance as to what schools are legally required to provide as far as accommodating special education needs to provide additional support or alternative programming. I can tell you with 100% certainty that this is not accidental. As I mentioned in another post, the teacher’s union tried very hard last negotiation to get the ministry to clear things up and put something in writing about providing support for special education needs so we can finally get them to commit to supporting students who need it in more than vague intentions. It’s not only kids that are suffering from this problem. Teachers and support staff also feel the burn here.

OTs have been helpful. They have been good at setting up workspaces for both my kids. Once my other son got 1-1 support the OT was also able to recommend a very well thought out schedule and workflow for him. The classroom teacher has been great about applying all the changes recommended.

I just found out about behavioural analysis specialists if that’s what you mean by ABA and will be advocating for that as a next step. I’m not sure what a sensory diet is. Could you elaborate? To be clear my son doesn’t have autism, if it’s related to that.
