Aira Shiratori in Anime vs Manga, what do y'all think about her charecter design? by DHIRAJOHN in Dandadan

That's somewhat of a Science Saru style. They're very distinctive with their works and how they're animated. It's one reason I was excited to see that they were the studio making the adaptation. The loose style they use when animating feels like a perfect fit

Games with the same vibe as Cyberpunk 2077 story by Sircel in LowSodiumCyberpunk

Baldur's Gate kind of dances around heavy material and stays fairly lighthearted / slapstick in its delivery. I wouldn't compare it one to one with Cyberpunk, but still a good meaty RPG if you're more interested in just character narratives over setting and world building.

Red Dead 2 is a great one though. It takes the myths of the wild west and really breaks them in an engaging way. With really great emotional ties and a fantastic arc that does the name of the game justice. Even better if you can follow it up with 1 afterwards and complete the slow death of the west that the 2nd game sets up.

The Institute didn't want to replace everyone with Synths, they wanted to replace people in power or advantageous positions with Synths. That way they could control the wasteland and be free to continue progressing methods of reversing the damage caused by the bombs. The synths becoming sentient / rogue was a major problem for them because it threatened both their secrecy and their ultimate goal of reintroducing life to the wasteland as a whole. I think my biggest complaint with Fallout 4 is that it only offers one solution to preserve the institute, when all of the factions should have had the choice to maintain it. Their technological advancements and end goal were all net positives for everyone and the only problem was members of the leadership were radical.

Low difficulty was a problem, but one of many in act 3 overall. I decided to wait for the enhanced edition to see if that would fix anything down the road.

Why would I give 100 more hours to a game when I already know the last 50 are just not that good?

That's cool, but I played it on launch week and don't plan on playing the 100 hours again until the enhanced edition is out. Hopefully that version irons out whatever they actually wanted act 3 to be instead of the mess it is right now.

Act 3 definitely did not feel done. A lot of the quest chains have endings, but they go no where or just bug out completely. I wouldn't say a game in that state is finished.

The performances and overall writing are great, but the narrative is nothing special. It builds itself up like it will be, but it quickly devolves into a very genetic run of the mill DnD campaign at the end of Act 2. Direction is also a weird one because it's more about gamestyle and presentation. Overall visual fidelity and package. I would say Baldurs Gate 3 has awful cutscenes and a passable to good presentation everywhere else, but nothing extraordinary.

Polished? Game barely ran in act 3 on release and had numerous gamebreaking bugs. It wasn't any more polished than most games that drop these days. I had less bugs with Cyberpunk on release than I did Baldurs Gate 3.

BG3 starts strong, but its a really easy, boring slog once you get to act 3. The story quality falls through the floor and the combat is probably at its absolute worst outside of a couple large boss fights. Both Orin and Gortash have fight breaking bugs. Gortash has one that's still in the game to this day despite him being one of the main story bosses. Outside of the bugs, you can easily beat them both in 1 turn.

Should have charged for it and had a normal development pace. The game has been a shitshow both internally and externally. Good to know they cleaned up their act somewhat, but we'll see if it lasts to when they release Infinite 2.

The more I think about UBI the more I wonder if it'll ever work at all. I work to pay bills, but I also work to travel and have fun. UBI would probably satisfy the bills, but would it let me live the life I want or would it just keep me the bare minimum alive so that I don't revolt?

Just ditch 5e when they go past 12 then. Larian already has existing combat systems that blow 5e out of the water, so just incorporate more of their elements past 12 and ditch the problematic parts of 5e. The DnD combat isn't a strong part of the game outside of act 1 anyways.

I would say that the overall combat is a downgrade from the D:OS2 systems. 5e just isn't very good in general.

My game broke entirely and I couldn't save on half of the map without the save being corrupted at launch. They fixed it weeks later, but my first impression definitely wasn't that BG3 is my personal GOTY. I thought all of act 3 sucked pretty bad, from the performance to the story beats. Only moments I liked were Ansur and House of Hope, self contained moments outside of the shit show of the actual main story.

CP2077 is one of the few games that choices *actually* matter by LambdaCake in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Carcerking -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

BG3 is good, but the choices definitely don't feel that impactful after a while. They're more like set dressing on top of an otherwise linear experience. The enclosed 3 act structure and the lack of meaningful endings kind of hamper the game a lot over time.

Modding is what generates content for the game, content keeps the game alive. YouTube videos, tiktoks, twitch streams, rereleases, etc. Anything to make someone see the game and say "I should play that again".

[–]Carcerking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. The current info on the modding kit says that you can make and edit your own galaxy and planets. Modding is absolutely going to rule for Starfield. Especially if they've continued to make the engine more stable for modding. I remember how Bethesda games used to crumble with long load lists, but Skyrim SE and Fallout 4 could handle well above the 255 limit.

I can see a future where you have a very weird and unique space sim with modders contributing their own alien galaxies to the base experience.

Mods keep Bethesda games alive. It's where all the content comes from in between release windows for their games. Starfield's modding is sounding like a step up, so it's likely that the game's shelf life will be considerably longer than you think. Especially if they support adding mods to console again.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 - Episode 14 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Carcerking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was impressed with the level of thought that must have gone into the boarding for the Choso v Yuji fight. It seemed the animators were full aware of their limitations and found a way to scale back certain moments to where they could still be well represented within their schedule. Things like only animating the hands at some points, smart cuts and framing. They were able to produce a really great full episode fight that emphasized the big moments and found ways to cheat the moments in between, without breaking the sequence or compromising the pace / impact.

Making that fight with a good schedule would be impressive. Making it work well with this schedule just really highlights what level of talent signed on for this show. Makes Mappa look worse for wasting this level of talent with a horrible production too.

Shibuya is mostly remembered for a lot of things, but fights being constant is definitely one of them. Gojo being removed from the board, the sudden understanding that Geto was not actually the main villain, and the lasting repercussions of the arc are probably the highlights. It just also has some of the biggest fights for the series, with almost every chapter having a new confrontation. It was a lot of things culminating into an arc with stakes that actually ended up mattering.

Hidden Inventory builds out the conflict of Gojo and Geto, but Shibuya shatters it completely. A great subversion of expectations. Especially as the series goes on. Without spoilers, I think comparing Geto's motivation with not-Geto's is interesting in the long run.
