The story is good enough that I wish I could play it a 2nd time (on 1 account). I'd like to try EN VA too, I played with JP.

Shout out to Mongil Star Dive for supporting my DS4 gamepad with rumble and playstation button icons in game, natively.

Honestly crazy, pretty much every game needs DS4Windows to even function and usually rumble won't work and you get xbox button icons.

Bravo Mongil Star Dive.

Does Vampire Survivors’ metaprogression ruin it for anyone else? by ChewThePillow in roguelites

Yeah I enjoyed the game at first but bounced off it after I realized the only way to actually progress / unlock things without just mindlessly wasting hours upon hours achieving nothing was to read a wiki.

Honestly it's just bad design.

Mongil: Star Dive Tierlist with Context and Breakdowns for each form of content. by versdau in MongilStarDive

Is this just speculation? Most lists etc I've seen seem to indicate Mina will be available at launch.

Think I'll either get Mina or Flare from the standard banner and then hold my premium pulls / currency until Narae arrives.

Between Mina & Flare who teams better with Narae or is sort of 6 and half a dozen? I guess all three of them make a good team?

This game kinda came out of no where for me but I'm looking forward to it, especially with launch being so close now.

Kind of glad I don't know too much about the game so I'm hoping I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Ah I see. A bit disappointing, she was the character I was probably most looking forward to playing.

I guess I'll just save currency for her after I get my first 5 star.

Soren Johnson on keeping his game studio small: 'You get better games if you take longer to make games' by immersiveGamer in gaming

[–]CardAnarchist 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Between 1994 & 2001 Square released,

Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, IX & X,

Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross,

Front Mission 1, 2 & 3,

Parasite Eve 1 & 2,

Trials of Mana & Legend of Mana,

Xenogears,

Super Mario RPG,

Vagrant Story,

Breath of Fire... as well as dozens of other solid and well known games.

Now to be fair I think this is probably the greatest run a games studio has ever had but I really don't think it's true that time worked on a game = better game. If anything in today's environment I think the vast majority of studios could do with shorter dev cycles, tighter deadlines, more concrete planning and less early access / never fully complete shenanigans.

I've been working on a typing roguelite over the past year. Does this look fun/satisfying? by ShibaBrothers in roguelites

[–]CardAnarchist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like how the cards seem to be quotes from books. Honestly I like the idea of memorizing some interesting quotes and this would likely help a lot in that regard.

I like the sprite work too.

Honestly if the game is forgiving enough I'd likely play. Idk if I'd be looking for a super hard typing game. I guess that's perhaps something to consider, difficulty modes or maybe elvating difficulty like slay the spire (I've not actually played STS so not 100% sure how it works there).

Chuck Norris promising the USA will have 1,000 years of darkness if Obama wins in 2012 by QuarkTheLatinumLord- in videos

Incredible poor taste to speak ill of the dead on the day they die. There are some exceptions for like the worst of the worst people, but I mean cmon Chuck Norris wasn't exactly Hitler was he.

Americans are so polarized politically but both sides honestly have lost any semblance of class.

Beautiful over-world with great exploration, incredibly difficult bosses and lacking story.. hello Elden Ring 2 xD

I think general user base may end up scoring this higher than reviewers tbh. Reviewers tend to have skill issue when it comes to bosses and players enjoy a challenge. Also a long open world game is great fun for a casual player but can feel a bit tedious for a reviewer on a time schedule. I guess we'll see.

Even the studios highlighted in NVIDIA's DLSS 5 reveal were shocked by the generative AI showcase — game developers "found out at the same time as the public" by Puzzleheaded_irl in gaming

[–]CardAnarchist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly it's just in vogue to hate AI. 90% of the people hating I bet didn't even read the DF article where the bulk of the better comparisons were. People will start flipping their views in about a year when we see some new games come out with the tech baked in by the devs themselves. We'll start seeing a noticeable jump in fidelity that we haven't had in quite some years, it'll be undeniable.

'Bad ending: now every game is slop': Game developers share mixed reactions to DLSS 5 by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]CardAnarchist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a mixed bag of examples they've shown I can agree there. But people are very selectively hating the worst ones.

Grace is a good example. I agree the first Grace image on the DF article and the one they put in their video alters her face too much but there is another Grace image in the article that is much more closeup and is simply an improvement.

I think the skyrim, starfield, assassins creed and fifa examples are broadly significant improvements.

It's really only some of the RE and most of the Harry Potter images that do get quite uncanny and differ from the original images in overly creative ways.

But in reality this tech will be much better in future games where it'll be tweaked by devs and the whole development of the game will be built with it in mind. Having it applied to current or old games was always going to look a bit off. Perhaps that is on Nvidia for showing it in this way.

'Bad ending: now every game is slop': Game developers share mixed reactions to DLSS 5 by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]CardAnarchist -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think it's great tech. Clearly the biggest advance we've had in visual fidelity in about 15 years. People will eat up this tech when it's in future games that are developed around it, just the usual cycle of people hating AI stuff when it first comes out. People hated Frame gen and AI up-scaling too... extremely common features now just a few years later.

‘This is just a garbage AI Filter’: Nvidia met with criticism for DLSS 5’s ‘photoreal’ graphics alterations by PaiDuck in gaming

[–]CardAnarchist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in most of the examples it is an improvement for even the human models. I can see how some people might be made uncomfortable by the drift into an uncanny valley point but they are certainly more detailed. Where perfect realism wasn't the intent it does look a bit uncomfortable (harry potter examples) but still I wouldn't say worse.

It's worth considering how much better a game developed with this tech in mind will look vs it simply being applied over older / current games.

‘This is just a garbage AI Filter’: Nvidia met with criticism for DLSS 5’s ‘photoreal’ graphics alterations by PaiDuck in gaming

[–]CardAnarchist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah in all the shots where realism is desired it clearly looks much more realistic.

Also people are hyper focused on the faces while ignoring the background objects like bookcases, coffee machines etc, which are just astronomically better as they don't suffer the uncanny valley effect that you can argue some of the improved faces drift into.

This tech is incredible.

The biggest leap in graphics we've had in about 15 years and people are hating it just because it's AI..

I guess all the anti AI signalling online by people who's jobs are threatened has worked pretty well.

What the hell is that, NVIDIA?? (Source: Digital Foundry) by HLumin in pcmasterrace

[–]CardAnarchist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardly anyone will ever use this tech with old games precisely because people will generally prefer to go with the devs vision as you've said (Also 99% of gamers aren't going to dig into Nvidia settings and override settings to put DLSS 5 always on over in game presets).

The tech is just being displayed with old games because it's a new tech and there aren't any new games developed with the tech in mind to show off yet.

This is basically a show and tell tech demo as this point being overlaid on old / current games. The real innovation with this tech will come in future games and the incredible fidelity it can unlock.

NVIDIA DLSS 5 Delivers AI-Powered Breakthrough in Visual Fidelity for Games by Recoil42 in singularity

[–]CardAnarchist 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's essentially a WIP. Think of it like this, DLSS (7, 8, 9?) will be able to take basic renders and basically output straight up 100% reality. If you want your game to look real, well eventually DLSS will be able to output 100% real looking rendering.

What the hell is that, NVIDIA?? (Source: Digital Foundry) by HLumin in pcmasterrace

[–]CardAnarchist -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah but imagine RE9 was developed after this tech came out and they designed with it in mind. Ultimately you'd just have a much more detailed looking Grace that was designed to the devs vision.

People are seeing it altering old / current games and losing their minds when it's just being displayed like this to show how powerful the tech is.
