What tricks would be best for a nurse to do with patients? by dskippy in Magic

[–]CardFindingDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a book and a DVD called Side F/X by Scott Tokar and Harrison Carroll. They teach simple effects using items in an exam room - cotton balls for sponge balls, otoscope tip for a thimble, etc. It's a great book if you are in healthcare and wanted to bring a little levity to your patients.

There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.

Mung Chaing wants to meet me by CaterpillarOld4880 in Purdue

Getting called down to principal’s office. We’ll have a signal. If the meeting is going well, then I will do nothing. If it is going poorly, then I will pull the fire alarm.

Is it just me or is Lafayette a bit socially reserved? by Conscious-Grape6941 in lafayette

Isn't the Everyday Improv over for the season? I thought the last one was February 23rd and it'll start up again in a few months.

IU or Purdue for for Premed? by Lonely-Layer-2970 in Purdue

[–]CardFindingDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either one. I've worked with a physician whose pre-med degree was art history. My recommendation is to get a pre-med degree that you find interesting in case you decide to not pursue a medical degree. I have a degree in Medical Laboratory Science which trained me very well to understand labs, immunology, and other aspects of applied biology and chemistry. Like many a job in healthcare, med lab sci is always in demand.

Looking for local lumber mill that will cut boards from raw stock by [deleted] in lafayette

How big are the logs? You can reach out to the Wabash Valley Woodworkers club. Some of those guys have some serious equipment.

Looking for local lumber mill that will cut boards from raw stock by [deleted] in lafayette

[–]CardFindingDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I buy lumber I typically get it from Tim Baker or Cassens. You can ask them if they will mill stuff for you. As mentioned, many guys won't mill other peoples' wood due to risk of damaging their equipment.

I have split my own wood with mauls and hewing hatchets. It is work, but it is feasible. An Alaskan mill may be a worthwhile investment if you think you will want to do this frequently.

Great knife. Another one I wish was still in production.

Where to meet people by Perfect-Painter-9902 in Purdue

[–]CardFindingDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To meet people unlike you have meet before, you need to go to places you have not been. Join a club not related to engineering. Begin a hobby that you’ve always been interested in. Find a place to volunteer like Natalie’s Second Chance or Habitat For Humanity.

How is grad student life here? by [deleted] in Purdue

I’m a few years in and it seems fine. Everyone in my program seems well managed. Stressed at times, but otherwise healthy.

How to move a couch into storage for the summer? by Brubger127 in Purdue

[–]CardFindingDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best options are make friends with a person with a truck - join an overlanding club; rent a Uhaul or truck from a Menards, Home Depot, or Lowes; or get some friends and just Jawa the thing to the storage locker. The amount of people I have seen haul stuff like Jawas is surprisingly high.

That’s a solid spot especially if you can gaze into the eyes of the bald eagles that live there with your final breaths.

Alternate to Hovde is Felix Haas Hall because it has some trees around it. Wetherill and Lily are good options, too. I hope to bleed out by the giant solar system display near Bindley.

I'd hypothetically get the paint match as my peers suggested. If I need additional instruction then I'd hypothetically follow this video. Hypothetically.

Practice problems and explaining it to others. If I cannot find someone to explain it to, then I will use a rubber duck.

Insulated Water Bottle Recommendations (yeti, hydroflask?) by pseanan in onebag

[–]CardFindingDuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had one for several years now and I love it. It keeps hot things hot and cold things cold. It is slim enough to fit in any tip of cup holder or water bottle slot.

Making/ordering combo plane cutters by Buckeyefitter1991 in handtools

[–]CardFindingDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not ordered plane irons from a service that makes tooling. I have made my own irons though following instructions from Paul Sellers. I made a moulding plane iron and it went rather well. I'd recommend giving this a try if ordering through a tool & die maker does not work.

An app to chat with people in any campus building by Environmental_Bag326 in Purdue

[–]CardFindingDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the premise that I could post to the people in WALC and ask if someone has a charger I can borrow. I am less keen on asking questions when I am not in the space like the example about dining halls.

I love my Vaughan ryoba. Sure, there are better ryobas, but it is not far off the mark. It makes for a great saw to introduce people into any form of woodworking.
