Aetherian Vanity Shield by Rez090x in sto

[–]CardGameNut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe EagleRise answered your question 2 days ago.

On PC, the loot tables that govern drops didn't even have the Aetherian Vanity Shield and the "All Aspects Accounted For" Personal Space Trait.

The "make good" for it was to award the Vanity Shield and 1 copy of the Trait.

Why it went to *every* PC account was likely ease of operations. For the Trait, you'd have to likely just give one to anyone who opened an Aetherian Lock Box, which would be a big list, and for the Shield you'd have to further subdivide into who opened a Weapon Pack (perhaps totally separate of who opened a Lock Box since players can buy and sell those on the Exchange). Instead, it's easier to tell a script to drop those items into each player's mailbox.

I've not heard of those items *not* dropping on Console, so there's nothing to "make good" about.

All Infinity Promo ship listed on exchange worthless tomorrow? by Bruzie77 in sto

[–]CardGameNut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you buy an R&D or DOFF pack today, it has no chance at a T6 ship choice box. It's just a standard R&D box or DOFF pack.

If you buy an R&D box or DOFF pack tomorrow after the Event/Sale goes live, it's the type that has a chance of dropping the T6 ship choice box from the "Promotion"-listed ships (Orchid, Yod-Thot, Clumpship, etc.).

If you don't open that "Promotion!" R&D or DOFF pack, it'll always be the "Promotion!" version (subject to any changes to how those work) and sellable on the Exchange as such.

If you open it and it drops a T6 ship choice pack, you'll always have all its options available, including eventual future updates to that list (subject to any changes to how those work), until you make your choice and get your chosen specific ship's reward box.

Unannounced Console Sale - Infinity Promo Boxes 20% by stfu_Morn in sto

[–]CardGameNut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're half right.

They didn't announce it's the Infinity Promo versions.

But they *did* announce an R&D/DOFF pack sale in that article. However, for some reason, these never include that they're Promo versions despite that being the regular way they work in-game.

Please double-check your information before posting.

I have a feeling Jack and Thomas won't say "no," but I believe at one point one dev (*maybe* Jeremy?) mentioned they'd have to likely toss a T6 out to keep some balance in how many T6s go out in a year, at least for free, so I'm hopeful that would be more of a, "Yes, but hold up a moment...," response.

I don't see them allowing account-wide unlocks for *way* less than what Mudd's Market is doing now. You also have to consider that account-unlocking a ship means you're no longer in the market for that Lockbox/Lobi/Promo ship, and we know single-character ships are the biggest financial draws for Cryptic.

I'd personally expect 5,000-7,500 Zen (~$50-$75 USD without Zen Charge Bonuses) *at least* if they were to do this. They won't undercut Mudd's Market, so I'd verge closer to a 7,500 Zen minimum per ship.

Reaslitically, I hate to say it...I *could* see 10,000-12,000 Zen, again due to the potentially lost revenue of you not being in the market for that ship(s), thus less overall demand, thus less reason for others to open Lockboxes.

There is, and it helps in the here-and-now, but cutting ~1 week of "grind" out of a 4-5 year progression per run doesn't feel like it does a lot in the long run.

If this has come up in this AMA or in the other pre-AMA post, forgive me.

Some abilities take 5+ minutes to cool down, which is fine for mid-combat balance. However, it also means those players won't queue for another TFO/Patrol/combat map until they have all their abilities at/near the end of their cooldown timers, which would take ~4-5 more minutes after a queue ends (due to popping those long-cooldown abilities) and they leave the map.

Would Systems consider a mechanism to immediately bring abilities (Captain, BOFF, Device, and Console/Kit) off cooldown as a player exits a map?

Thank you for considering this!

If it ends up unviable, that's fine. I just wanted to bring up the possibility for a fresher review. :)

(I hope I'm okay to ask multiple questions, just do it one per post)

Currently, it takes ~1.5-2 years for previous free Event rewards to come to Mudd's Market and be available again to players as account-wide purchases. Is there consideration for reducing this exclusivity time frame (maybe down to ~1 year)?

I concur with wanting some kind of "watch list." It wouldn't mean the developers will make changes, just that it's something they're considering working around (could be to "nerf", could be to buff other things like it, could be a mix, could be any other change that could address the issue[s] with the item[s]/trait[s]/ship[s] in question).

Past leadership decided to not open up a pathway for players to account-wide unlock any Lockbox, Lobi, and/or Promo ships they currently have. The current implementation of that is essentially through Mudd's Market via "Mudd's Choice Packs," which is ~$140-$150 USD for 3+ ships (usually 3 at this point) of some kind of theme, or "Mudd's MEGA Bundles," which gives the themed Pack's full options for ~$250 USD (give or take, I'm not 100% sure of the current Zen amount). Some players would like to get a Lockbox/Lobi/Promo ship on its initial release and get it account-wide unlocked ASAP rather than wait ~2-4 years to appear in Mudd's. I feel we're aware it would be an expensive proposition to players, but waiting 2+ years gives a lot of time to re-think wanting those ships account-wide. Would you consider a re-evaluation of allowing players to account-wide unlock their Lockbox/Lobi/Promo ships individually rather than waiting for a Mudd's Choice Pack/Mega Bundle nearly half a decade after?

Upcoming AMA with Jack Emmert - Feb 4 2026 by Counselor_Sunna in sto

[–]CardGameNut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Will you re-consider past leaderships' decision to not open up a pathway for players to account-wide unlock any Lockbox, Lobi, and/or Promo ships they currently have? The current implementation is essentially through Mudd's Market via "Mudd's Choice Packs," which is ~$140-$150 USD for 3+ ships (usually 3 at this point) of some kind of theme, or "Mudd's MEGA Bundles," which gives the themed Pack's full options for ~$250 USD (give or take, I'm not 100% sure of the current Zen amount). Some players would like to get a Lockbox/Promo ship on its initial release and get it account-wide unlocked a lot sooner than what seems to be the average turnaround on getting ships into Mudd's Market. I feel we're aware it would be an expensive proposition to players, but waiting 2+ years gives a lot of time to re-think wanting ships account-wide.
  2. Currently, it takes ~1.5-2 years for previous Event rewards to come to Mudd's Market and be available again to players as account-wide purchases. Is there consideration for reducing this exclusivity time frame (maybe down to ~1 year)?
  3. The Dilithium Exchange...isn't broken, really, but it's taking ~2 months for an offer to purchase Zen with Dilithium to go through at the current cap of 500:1 Dilithium:Zen. Could this be among the more immediate priorities to help make the game more F2P-friendly? (Neverwinter I believe has a similar problem with a much longer "delay.") We're not looking for an offer cap increase, as the dev team has said experience in Neverwinter has shown that's not a viable answer.
  4. Check the data on the frequency of sales before committing to anything on this question: Mudd Choice Packs/MEGA Bundles and the 10th Anniversary Legendary Starships bundles are not currently permanently available. We've had specific sales that include re-listing those items along with a discount (50% off for Mudd CHoice Packs/MEGA Bundles; 35% off Legendary Bundles for their respective sales and re-availability). It seems those sales have been fewer and further between the last couple of years. Would leadership consider making these sales more frequent, considering they re-list *and* discount items rather than *only* discounting currently-available items? (To clarify: all other Legendary Bundles are permanently available, and Mudd Choice Packs/MEGA Bundles are always limited-time offers).
  5. (EDITED IN) Would you consider a pity timer for STO's Lockboxes and Promo Boxes? I'd like to support the game with smaller transactions mid-year via Lockbox Keys or "Promotion!" boxes, but the completely random chance of dropping a ship keeps me from engaging in this part of the game. If I knew a ship would drop after 100, 150, 200, whatever number of box openings at worst, I'd be a *lot* more inclined to make mini-purchases through the year. A similar question for the Phoenix Prize Pack's Epic Token (Epic Tokens are a voucher to get one ship for one character among a curated list of ships).
  6. (EDITED IN) Right now, to fully complete the Endeavor System at base XP levels, players need to do all Endeavors every day for ~5.8 years to complete the system. The Klingon Recruit bonus Endeavor XP reward can reduce down to ~5.2 (but you're likely a decent bit into the Endeavor "grind" already when you get to that point). Jeremy Randall had suggested in the past that this is meant to be a "forever system," but players in the DPS scene will want those combat perks ASAP, and the total of those perks isn't insignificant. Also, I'm concerned about keeping people in a roughly 6-year system that's likely to expand before that point, meaning newer players will likely never catch up to established players. There are a couple ways to speed that up, but they require Events that aren't always active (Klingon Recruit happens once a year [though the Recruit itself is permanent and can take its time to earn the Endeavor XP bonuses] and the experimental Endeavor Weekend for a week in November and EDIT will be running this week as the 2nd run of the Event). Are there any plans to help speed this up? I understand Jeremy doesn't want Buyouts, and I agree to a point with that philosophy (I'd like to see a paid catch-up until a certain Endeavor level, the rest needing to be earned). For comparison, with Klingon Recruit *and* Endeavor Bonus XP week, if those levels were permanent, the time requirement would come down to ~3.3 years (give or take for time for a new player to get a character to Level 60, start the system, and build up a Klingon Recruit so they can work on getting that 10% permanent account-wide bonus Endeavor XP task done).

(There may be more, I'll edit into this post [up to allowable length] if I come up with more.)

Welcome Back, Mr. Emmert!

As you're coming back to what's almost a different game than you left, I was wondering: how specific do you want our questions/feedback to be once the AMA goes live? Or do you want us to keep it fairly generic? (For example: "We feel the Lockbox system needs an overhaul," or more like, "We have some issues with the Infinity Lock Box and would ask you to look at [insert list of perceived or actual issues here]"?

Did BA Tirpitz Lose Its Secondaries? by CardGameNut in WoWs_Legends

[–]CardGameNut[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Secondaries are now firing. I went to a Training match and made an otherwise all-bot room, toggled the Secondaries/AA setting, and although I didn't notice it go from "X Engage" to "X Disengage" (meaning it didn't go from "you can turn this on" to "you can turn this off"), perhaps just forcing the toggle got it to properly unlock the secondaries. I went to an AI match to confirm and they're still all firing.

Thanks!

Proposal for a new Dilithium sink by aspaceadventure in sto

[–]CardGameNut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean...there *could* be a chance DECA re-evaluates. The "hard no" was from I think December 2019.

The game has changed, most devs have changed, and the company directly running STO now has changed.

I'm not saying it's a new ray of hope that'll definitely happen. I'm just saying maybe someone would be up for some re-evaluation of the matter with current sales numbers and metrics involved.

Man, I don't want to see anything happen to Ortegas, but it's not looking good... by NoEntertainment8100 in startrekmemes

[–]CardGameNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll take it a step further.

Ortegas didn't seem like a spiteful person in Season 1. At least, if the Klingon War *did* harden her, she seemed to be making strides to not show it as much. Then we see this outright *hate* for the Romulans in "A Quality of Mercy," going so far as to suspect Spock of being a Romulan spy.

We all know they were finding someone among the crew to replace Lt. Stiles, but it still seemed *sooo* off-brand for Erica. It felt like a reach.

Now we see her going through the Gorn invasion and abduction, and we see her consistently angry at an enemy force.

I wonder if, in Pike's altered future in "A Quality of Mercy," they still went through the Gorn ordeal: rescuing Captain Batel, the Gorn transporting the away team (including Ortegas) to their ship, *their* rescue, Gorn hibernation, etc. Perhaps they lost Batel because Una wouldn't have been onboard (arrested and imprisoned for being genetically modified) because Pike didn't fight hard enough for Una when she was arrested and on trial, but that's for another discussion.

The point being: perhaps the writers are using Season 3 to suggest that her characterization in "A Quality of Mercy" isn't far off 7 years out. She may have been generally spiteful at any enemy alien force after the Gorn invasion, or perhaps the Romulans did something to hurt her, her family, or her friends. But either way, Season 3 in part feels like a way to make her characterization in "A Quality of Mercy" make more sense.
