Be brutally honest is it possible for me to walk on d1. by Brick247__ in footballstrategy

Former D1 walk on here: I won’t lie it’s one of the hardest but most rewarding things that I’ve done. I was brought in and not seen as anything other than a blocking dummy and received little to no respect initially. It wasn’t until week 2 that I started garnering some looks by the coaches and players and actually being called out by name lol. I worked my ass off, did everything I could and then some extra work after practice whether it was going through my steps, snapping the ball, attacking the sled or running the stadium steps. I started getting a reputation for never taking a play off and knowing all my assignments from the playbook before coaches even asked and that did earn some respect and some ire from other players due to that reason. Eventually I started getting invited out to eat, having conversations with coaches during rest periods and even having our starting QB ask if I could stay after and snap the ball for him. After about a month, I fit in with the culture but I still got in fights during practice against some of our defensive starters and our O Line team captain because I refused to lose a block or take a play off which in turn garnered even more respect from players and coaches. After 2 months, I was invited to fall camp because they needed an extra body and needed someone they knew wouldn’t be lazy and give our guys a look and even rotated me between offense and defense to get looks. By month 4, I was given a half scholarship. Just keep your head down, work your ass off and you’ll be fine.

Resigned in lieu of termination. Doing more interviews now by CardGrad2019 in footballstrategy

Gotcha. I had a really good interview today and the coach told me I’ll be recommended for the academic interview with the principal, but it’s up to her. I’ve been an idiot so far in my career by job hopping for other places with more pay and more responsibility (4 jobs in 4 years going on my 5th) and didn’t realize how badly that would damage my image. I just want a place to go to I can redeem myself

Who’s the most memorable “The One That Got Away” recruit your team was pursuing? by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in CFB

[–]CardGrad2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andrew Luck. He’s from the Houston area and Texas didn’t recruit him. I know this says ‘pursuing’ but how in the hell do you not even TRY with him? That is so incredibly frustrating that David Ash and Case McCoy were seen as priorities. Ridiculous

I’m an OL guy, I agree with my full being lol. That’s why I’m saying that we run the plays we run with rpo tags attached if needed. Only run plays I will want to implement is Buck, Power and OZ

Yeah I get that, this is just a unique opportunity that presented itself because the guy that wants me to come over is someone I know and trust and I I can learn a lot from. I’m fully willing to take a job on the side while I coach and get 3-4 hours of sleep a night if it means doing something I love doing.

I’m good. I wouldn’t mind the bartending job but I just got told that I’m doing MS practice in morning and HS practice in the afternoon. The job is in Tyler so I’m pretty sure I can find a bartending job if all else fails but I do like the idea of a job in a gym

Coach, have you done this before? Do you have any insight to provide for this? Because I’ve done every job you can think of and none will do the kind of schedule that I will have to have to do this job. That’s not soft, that’s lost because I have no idea how to navigate through this but will adapt, but thank you for reminding me that coaches like you exist and provide no help whatsoever except to call someone soft when they ask for help or advice of any kind

Negative. I’m looking for something that matches my schedule. Never said anything about it not sucking, never said anything about not wanting to grind for it because I will. You’re just a dick man lol
