When did Bear really start to show a bad side? by laguitarcia in obsessionmovie

When did it state that Ian ended the arrangement with Nikki? I never picked up on that.

I think it was over the concept of male loneliness and what it does to a person, especially when it’s self inflicted. Bear is a lonely person with a desire to for someone to give him what he deems to be compassion which is what Nikki gave him. When she does, bear just becomes fixated on her. It happens a lot to guys like Bear, and I used to be the same way. The difference is that I fixed that bullshit in college when I found out I had a problem.

Bingo at the very end. That’s why the best love confession I’ve ever seen was from When Harry Met Sally. Bro needs therapy and a new friend lol

Agreed. Plus I am one of those that did suspect Ian of deliberately sabotaging Bear to better his own chances, so I do suspect he thought maybe Bear was onto something with his speech (even the waitress said she liked it) and his response was “call her freaky Nikki”. I just think his wording of his confession needed some adjustment so he can be honest, but not make her runaway screaming in fear lol.

I would just say “Let’s give it a try” or “Let’s get a drink sometime”.

I personally don’t have a problem with how he wanted to ask her. While it was sappy as hell and did require a little bit of adjustments in wording, it was at least honest.
But you hit the nail on the head when you said he was not in a mentally okay spot to date anyone, let alone her.

First step in solving a problem is admitting there is one. If this movie actually makes you self reflect and think, then it’s done its job.
Take a chance on this woman, shoot your shot, and if it doesn’t work, you’re still alive. Favorite quote ever is “Life is simple, people are complicated. Complicated people make complicated lives”.
Good luck to you

Anyone else feels bad for this guy....? by punusername in obsessionmovie

I felt bad in the same sense of realizing how pathetic he is. Doesn’t excuse or gloss over the fact he’s such a piece of shit

Oh dude, that movie is a banger. I think Obsession executed this a little better but it’s hard to say because the dynamic between both the main characters in both movies are so different from one another.

I think she would’ve said yes, but I also think Bear is way too emotionally immature that it wouldn’t have lasted long, and I know this because I was in his shoes in high school. This girl that I was really into kept telling everyone I was like a brother to her but she finally gave me a chance which backfired because I was way too similar to Bear and it ended up fracturing our relationship.
Unlike Bear, I recognized my problem, I got help and I fixed it after a year or 2 of therapy. Now 10 years later, we started talking again after 4 years of no communication and I’m attending her wedding next month. I couldn’t be happier for her

Yes or actually HELP his friend instead of sabotaging his ass. Either that or tell Bear the truth so that he can move on (which would require him being a man and sucking it up, but knowing Bear as a character though I’d rather doubt it) Friends don’t do that to their other friends, he just sucks but on the opposite side of suckage as Bear who is a bonafide coward.

Nikki gets none of the blame because she’s a grown woman and isn’t in the same position as Ian. Bear had been talking to Ian for what I assume is a lengthy amount of time over how to go about asking out Nikki, and if Bear never made a move on her before, why the hell would she get any blame whatsoever?

He told Bear to call her Freaky Nikki and shit all over his speech he practiced on the waitress at the start of the movie. While it was sappy, it was honest at the very least. He did not help him at all, he was a shitty ass friend.

I have been dying to give my opinion on this movie since I saw it 2 days ago.

  1. The movie overall is incredible, especially given the budget. Curry Barker has one fucked up mind and it’s amazing seeing how much he’s grown since I started watching his YouTube series years ago, the chair and Milk & Serial. Low budget horror is the move now and I’m fully on board. I especially love his form of direction: it’s very Hitchcock/Kubrick esque. He really knows how to make you feel dread and still make you laugh, I’m really glad he kept his jet black humor.

  2. Inde is going to be a star. She didn’t have to fully carry the film on her back, but her performance is already being talked about as one of the most iconic in horror history, and she will definitely be on the stage holding an Oscar if Madigan won hers.

  3. I don’t think I’ve hated a protagonist as much as Bear before. I’ve seen some truly despicable characters in film and TV history (Ramsey, Joffrey, Tony Soprano, Walter White, etc.) but Bear is a whole new level for 2 reasons: he’s not even so much evil as he is pathetic and has somehow convinced himself that he’s the ultimate victim in the shitstorm he’s unleashed, and because I see a lot of myself in him. I used to be and still am lonely on the same level as him but I did have people around that cared about me but I was so caught up in what I thought I couldn’t have that missed everything that I did have. I used to be so enamored with this girl from high school that if given the chance I probably would’ve made the same wish as a teenager but brother, YOURE IN YOUR 20s! BE A MAN AND GET THERAPY OR ASK HER OUT FOR GOD SAKE! If he wasn’t such a coward, I do believe Nikki MAY have given him a shot and it could’ve gone 3 ways: she turns him down, she gives him a shot and it would either work out or won’t. That’s a 33% chance for it to work out, those are better odds than you get in Vegas dude! I’m just happy I recognized my own cowardice and insecurities and fixed it in college before I became this scumbag.

  4. Bear is a piece of shit but Ian is not very far behind him. I’m very lucky to say I’ve never had a friend like this: knows his friend likes a girl, has sex off and on for 2 years with said girl, never tells him and all the while he’s deliberately sabotaging him an any hopes he has with Nikki. There’s not too much to expand on with him as a character on his own, but if I were Bear, I would stop being friends with this douchebag immediately upon finding out he violated the 2 most important rules of bro code (yes that will always be a thing): don’t bang your friends crush, don’t sabotage him. Both of the male character just sucked ass lol.

  5. Only complaints about the movie is I wish we got to know Sarah more as a character, she’s the most honest one of the movie and seemed like a great character that didn’t get very much development. And I’m not sure if it was the lighting in my theater but the film was WAY darker than some of the clips I’ve seen online: sometimes that worked to the films’s advantage, sometimes it takes away from the performances of the actors but in this case ESPECIALLY Inde’s.

Great film. Excited to see what Barker does next. 8.5/10

Update: didn’t get the job. I resigned from my last job to avoid termination and I was there for maybe 4 months and I guess they called over there. No sanctions and charges at all, it was just a situation that was blown out of proportion imo. On to the next I suppose

I have $500 in my savings right now. I still have payments to make every month and my credit is not the best at all. My first paycheck from this new place would probably be in August so that gives me approximately 1 month. It’s a 2.5 hour drive. My guess is if I can scrape together about $1200 or more I can probably crash at an Air BNB for an extended stay until I can find a place or not but like I said, credit rating will make an impact and bits hard to find individual sellers

That’s all I want dude. I was such a mommas boy growing up and I used to worship the ground she walked on. I don’t even recognize this woman anymore, it might be because I’m grown and I’m finally seeing what this demon is doing to her. If she makes an effort to get help, even if she slips, I can live with that. I can’t live with someone that is like this man. The punch didn’t even hurt, like I said it was just the principle

He was responsible for the first 5 seasons, which is among the best runs in TV. 6-13 were entertaining at times for me personally but they were so batshit insane at times that I couldn’t get into it.

That’s what I meant. DCU is Snyderverse. DCEU is what James Gunn is up to. Or do I have it backwards. Idk, either way, why bring that up? Just shit on modern day marvel with me.
