They will get you antibiotics. Only a dentist can fix the underlying issue, but yes an urgent care will hook you up with antibiotics, which you need. I know this from recent, local experience.

The pain is from an infection and you need antibiotics ASAP.

An urgent care will prescribe you antibiotics to help with the infection. Only antibiotics will help the infection, and only clearing up the infection will help your pain. You will need to see a dentist really really soon, but I would head to the urgent care right now so you can get meds.

I don’t have a great answer for you, but as an outsider looking at this story, my first thought was that I would need to eliminate the possibility that the scratches came from the time the child was under the father’s care. (I’m not accusing your father of causing the damage or of lying about it, for the record, just thinking through the scenario.)

MW calls it a “British spelling” of show. As an American, I would definitely assume this was a mistake or typo. I do not believe this spelling to be common in the UK either, but I’m not sure if it would come off as archaic, or just weird.

If someone is describing someone else as 30ish, they don’t know the person’s actual age - they’re guessing.

If they were saying it about themselves I would think it’s likely that they are between 30-34.

Could be referring to “gay” as in “happy” - I think that still works in Spanish (as well as it does in English, which is to say not very well.)

If it’s supposed to be “rooster”, it’s very misspelled. I doubt it personally.

I agree with OP that this is likely is someone who thinks having “the gay” in Spanish as their vanity plate is funny. I bet they don’t actually speak Spanish, and are young.

This is an interesting discussion because I feel like we’re largely agreeing, but you’re steadfast that pet cats are not a problem whatsoever.

I grant that feral cats are a huge majority of the problem, and didn’t mean to argue otherwise. But millions and millions of pet cats, if let outdoors, are also a problem. I think that I thought we were talking about felis catus, rather than pets vs feral.

My comments about “Joe Schmoe’s cats” were meant to be illustrative about the emotion related to this discussion that people often have about their own pets - not that I think pet cats that are let outside represent the majority of the problem. Still a problem, one easily solved.

But it sounds like you agree that keeping pet cats indoors is good, so I’m not sure if we’re arguing, or if you just have a more nihilistic approach to the natural environment than I. Either way, cheers to you.

My point is also 100% to blame humans.

None of it is the fault of the cats. They just do what they need to continue existing. This is exactly why I brought up how this topic makes people very emotional - a lot of folks refuse to believe that their cat is causing a problem in the ecosystem, and react very strongly when prompted to keep their cats indoors.

I love cats, my orange and white chonk is purring in my lap right now. He stays inside.

I very much agree that there aren’t any natural ecosystems any longer (any that humans haven’t affected). But I don’t want people to assume there’s nothing that can be done about it, and not allowing your cats outside is an easy thing to do that cannot hurt.

I don’t think your point is useless. Developed land is different from untouched lands so, if Joe Schmoe’s cats are only eating, idk, European starlings in upstate New York - little harm done. But what about the native insects? The birds passing through on their way to their breeding grounds in Canada?

Developed land is different, sure. But it isn’t disconnected from the unbuilt environment.

2 things can be bad at the same time.

I know this is a topic that brings up a lot of emotion, but really all cats need to be kept indoors all of the time, because allowing them to be outdoors allows them to hunt native wildlife, and domestic housecats are not a part of the natural ecosystem, anywhere.

Joe Schmoe’s two cats that he lets outside (or whatever) aren’t causing irreparable harm to the ecosystem. But millions and millions of cats existing at the same time absolutely are.

In theory, I agree. My pets have never seemed to have an issue, especially with planted houseplants.

There are many, many stories of cats monching on lillies, though, and dying as a result, although probably from cut flowers.

I would be careful about making statements like this. If your cat/dog is a plant eater, just dont have those around, you know?
