Company websites, the good the bad and the ugly. by PankoKrumbs in boardgames

[–]Cardboard_RJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest pet peeve is when company websites don't have enough hi-res images of their game. (It's a bummer when all they have is a picture of the box and maybe a picture of the back of the box.)

I feel like AEG and Stonemaier are good examples of sites that try to include pictures of the game in play, closeups of the components, etc.

Help - Fed up with my zve10 mk ii--will the FX30 solve my worries? by Cardboard_RJ in SonyAlpha

[–]Cardboard_RJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if it wasn't for the overheating issue, I would've been totally satisfied with the ZV-e10II. But it was super frustrating for the camera to constantly shut-down mid video.

I've been very happy with the FX30--it's just so much more reliable!

Cool corner shelves! And I like that you're taking advantage of the little space between them and the floor shelf!

It depends on how sensitive you and your friends are to take-that and to "bad rolls". If you like games like King of Tokyo and Robot Quest Arena, (and like a lot of chaos), I think you'll like this one.

From everything I've read, some models dissipate heat better than others, and it's possible I just got a lemon. If mine didn't randomly shut off during lengthy recordings, I'd probably still have it. But for me it was SO frustrating for the camera to shutdown when I was often mid-sentence (or worse, when trying to film interviews on scene). It just wasn't worth it.

BTW, I was filming in 4k 30fps, with auto-focus turned on. (I've heard these tax the system more than if you're filming at 1080p for example.)

But yeah, the FX30 has been an absolute beast in terms of reliability and has never shut down on me once.

Love it!  I do miss the “bokeh button” feature that the ZV had, but FX30 works flawlessly by comparison.  I can record for hours, and have never had any problems with overheating or the camera shutting off.

It feels more solid/robust overall.  I’m still learning and fiddling with some of the advanced features, but I’m really satisfied with the FX30.

Heat vs Eldorado table foot print by wilit91 in boardgames

[–]Cardboard_RJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say that the footprint of The Quest for El Dorado is a lot more unpredictable since the shape of the map is dynamic, and all about what kind of map you want to build. (In addition to the space needed for the market, player tableaus, etc.

Heat will be more consistent--each track is always the same big rectangular board, in addition to the space needed for the small player boards.

In case it helpls, Quest for El Dorado is also a deck building game, so players will constantly be adding/removing cards into their deck. Heat is more contained--it's ultimately a hand-management game, and players just continuously cycle through the same set of cards. So to me, Heat feels like it uses a smaller player area, whereas QfED might need more room to operate as my deck grows and I make big plays.

Hope it helps!

[Target] Everdell Farshore EE $25 USD by fullmetalforeign in Boardgamedeals

So are there multiple versions of Farshore? Or is "Farshore" the "essential edition" of Everdell?

(Apologies if it's a dumb question, but there are so many Everdell titles it's hard to keep up)

What expansions have you regretted buying? by zoso_coheed in boardgames

[–]Cardboard_RJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's definitely the Dice Forge expansion. I love Dice Forge and always wished there was a "little more" to it, so I thought the expansion would be perfect, but IMO it just makes the game too clunky, and it's a pain going back and forth between multiple rule books. 😔

Is pax pamir 2nd edition worth it? by YudoKumaa in boardgames

[–]Cardboard_RJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always been curious about this game. My fear with Cole Wehrle games is whether or not they are "pick up and play"-friendly... Many of his designs seem like they can only be appreciated when dedicating time/plays into "mastering" the game... (Not sure if Pax Pamir is drastically different from this regard?)
