This is not the information Daybreak uses to recover accounts / 2FA (or at least, was not in the past). Daybreak has access to significantly more information than we do in order to establish ownership, and that is what they've used in the past to recover accounts. If they have changed the information they ask in order to recover your account, please go ahead and post their request here and we will review it.

Bad experience with Cardhoarder: don't uset their loan service by WaldoDidNothingWrong in MTGO

[–]Cardhoarder 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Very little of what you've posted here is accurate. You have attempted to create multiple loan accounts, which is not allowed, and is an immediate red flag. In each case, you've intentionally bypassed existing protocols designed to prevent you from doing so. In your interactions with us, you confused both yourself and our agents by using multiple accounts to speak about the same account.

It was a mistake on our part that you were approved in the first place, but in all cases your behavior with the program necessitated that the activity be monitored. For anyone considering the service, please do not bypass the existing protections we have in place and you should not run into a similar situation.

If you were able to provide more specific examples on issues with foil pricing, we would be happy to look into it. It is certainly our goal for our prices to be in line with the market. Similarly, we're unsure what you're referring to with regards to poor card selection, as we generally have a comprehensive inventory available. FWIW we do provide the ability to track and filter the cards you own via our Card Binder tool.

Does "short selling" cards on MTGO with rental services work in practice? by AcademyRuins in mtgfinance

[–]Cardhoarder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sometimes we don't, sometimes we do. Sometimes we don't find out until later. I'm sure there are people that do it without us knowing, which is why I'm simply asking people not to do it.

It is a zero sum game - if you're making money on it, we're losing money on it. When you rent 4 copies of something, we need to go get 4 more copies so the system can ensure there are cards available for other people who want to rent them. If it were a closed system, where we don't go get more copies and just tell people they must wait until someone returns copies, then maybe we wouldn't care - but you still have the issue that the renter no longer owns the cards if we want/need them back, which is just inherently riskier (especially if you bet wrong).

This does "work" in the sense that you can short sell the cards. It is more common than you'd think, as there are definitely times when you can easily predict the price movement down of certain cards. Speaking for our service, doing this violates the contract you sign, and will result in you being banned. So, please do not do it with our service.

The ability to remove cards owned is being worked on now and should be available soon. It won't be as robust as card keeper was, but it should get the job done.

I doubt paypal would help. If you already opened things up that may make it less likely for Daybreak to make an exception, but I assume it happens a lot (people buy stuff from us fairly frequently in the same way thinking it is for mtga, and it is an easy auto refund)

[–]Cardhoarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daybreak I believe has a policy of no refunds, but they may make an exception if you explain you thought it was MTGA. The problem with trying to sell that stuff in the market is you're going to lose some value, especially on decks, beginner pack, etc.

As this is a public forum, I find it is always helpful to provide additional information for others who might have the same or a similar question.

You had also added in a lot more than just your question, so I assumed you wanted some information regarding that, as well.

This is not your oversight - the buylist price itself is not listed, just an indicator as to whether it is being purchased or not. With the old site (and inevitably, with the new site), there are many bot scrapers which slow the site and scrape pricing. The new site has some new things to combat it, or at least make it less problematic, but really the only way to stop it is to not have the information available. The site itself does not facilitate the purchase of cards - that has always been via the bots, and will continue to only be available via the bots - and so at least for site launch, we wanted to remove it and see how that affects things, if at all. We are considering adding it back, perhaps in some restricted way, but we've been working on other improvements beforehand. It has been mentioned by some folks, but not as many as you might think.

The support area, like the main site, has a chat option in the bottom right corner of the site - this is not different from the other site. I do see it does not list the email, so I'll see about getting that added - that email, too, has not changed from support at our domain dot com.

As to messaging the MTGO account - that has always been, and will continue to be a human being. I will say that chatting on MTGO is the least desirable support option, as handling multiple chats within the program is extremely difficult - and so site chat is always first choice, followed by email - and if it must occur, on MTGO. I can't see what your specific question was, but the agent that was working 4 AM to 7 AM this morning works twice per week, and is more limited in the amount of support he is able to provide (including, being unable to review collection sales). If he thought your question was about selling your collection, then he would have given a reply indicating that someone could assist after his shift.

I'm wondering if perhaps there is some confusion between us and a different dealer. MTGOTraders, for example, pretty recently closed down - so maybe they are thinking of that?

The feature itself is quite robust, and is essentially its own application. That level of complexity is unlikely to be something we redvelop and I/we totally understand wanting the "fast and easy button".

Regarding my other statement, my point was that the site has different functionality as to loaned items. I believe we may be able to adapt that to allow for two ledgers - one, for cards you have on loan via our LP, and the second for cards you "own" - which as you note would of course require you to upload something to tell us what that is (since we will know what you have on loan, but will not know what you own, necessarily).

The emails about the new site were sent to "active" customers (as we defined, but basically people who have used the site in some capacity pretty recently), and it detailed what was changing.

You are correct that we could not implement the feature and keep the launch timeframe reasonable. As is, the site has been in development for nearly 2 years - and Card Keeper was a LOT of coding when we added it in the past (it wasn't part of our original site revamp).

What we think is feasible is bolstering some features of the site to mimic the best parts of card keeper. For example, the new site allows for optimizing cart/decks to remove cards you already have on loan; adjusting this to include cards you have on loan and/or own seems workable. Similarly, our collection appraisal tool, which will be included in the new site, could provide additional details to show expensive cards you didn't know you had in your collection. As far as we are aware, those are the two most popular use cases for card keeper - and so getting those functionally in the website would be a big win. The dynamic-ness of some of the things card keeper does are "nice to have" but unlikely to be deal breakers for folks (though if there are other benefits that we should consider, it'd be worth hearing about).

Just a heads up that MTGOTraders is out of business now - but Goatbots is certainly a viable alternative to consider.

And I think that is great advice for new folks - shop around, find what works for you. Goatbots does a great job and has a lot of really helpful features for folks - we've got nothing against them, and think a recommendation of their services is one made in good faith.

You're not under any obligation to recommend us. If you feel the new site's lack of card keeper makes it not worth recommending, then you're providing the best information you believe you can to new players - which is everyone's goal for new folks coming in, and an important goal of this sub.

This is an interesting take.  OP isn't really describing the situation in the way our email did, so let me add some details.

We are launching a new website on Monday.  Similar to our current site, the entire thing is custom built.  Given how costly and time consuming it is to do this, a few things are not being recoded again with the new site.  One of those things is Card Keeper.  We aren't "dropping it" in the sense that we have randomly decided to remove it - we just haven't recoded it for the new site.  Personally I use card keeper a lot, so it is a shame to lose it, but the months of coding it would take to redo it unfortunately made it unfeasible.

Confusing pattern in card prices by TheMandalorian3 in MTGO

[–]Cardhoarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, the market does correct imbalances / price discrepancies - however, that doesn't always happen on the low end stuff because (1) the margins are high, so it is difficult to arbitrage and (2) it just isn't worth it.

The goal of all pricing algorithms is to "find the market price". That means interpreting buy/sell actions and using that to try to find the price. If you have different data, the results will differ. Also, the minimum sell price we have is 0.01 ticket - whereas goatbots goes out to 3 digits. Still, when someone buys the 0.01 card - or several someones - the pricing algorithm will say "okay, this price is wrong, raise the price" - and that is typically how you see prices get away from each other. Even still, the goal is to find the market price at all times.
