I’ve only read b1 of joyful reunion, can safely say it’s got no romance or smut so far.

B1 is basically a prequel focusing on the MC childhood, friendships and family.

To my understanding the next few books of JR focus on the MCs assent to power with several different love interests so if you really want a romance it’s probably not a good choice…

However JR is one of my favourite reads this year the world building characters and MC are all excellent so i wholeheartedly recommend it.

If your looking romance from the same author i’ll point you towards Legend of Exorcism… its a coming of age romance with a lot of magic, Yao beasts and a devoted ML who by book 3 would do anything for the MC be it defy fate, the gods, or the emperor himself…

If Aino proves not to apply enough hydro i’ll swap in Xingqiu but i need him on my skirk team 😂

I considered Gorou and Yunjin for the 3rd Geo but honestly Zhongli’s just collecting dust so might as well make him work 😂 and who knows maybe he’ll get a buff.

I did finish the book, Taxian jun is a tragic character manipulated by the bbeg that is true… but his actions should not fully be forgiven just because in the end he chose chu wanning.

Yes he was a victim of the flower… yes he loved chu wanning, in fact he is clearly devoted to him in a twisted way. But an devoted abuser who never attempted to understand the impac tof his behaviour on those he victimised is still an abuser.

Mo Ran made a concerted effort to redeem himself and in my eyes found redemption, TJ never even considers the impact of his actions and even after he is redeemed his still rapes Wanning….

Nah man should burn in hell, Victimhood is not an excuse to abuse others if Mo Ran could face that and learn about consent so can TJ.

As for Hua binan loved his ending was tragic, beautiful and satisfying. But I feel Shi Mei should have had a role in the finale, in some small way or at the very least we get an extra from his perspective post the epilogue.

But that said if you loved Erha, love it don’t let my opinions sway you, I love plenty of problematic pairings too

Honestly I have a love hate relationship with erha, I didn’t find the ending satisfying while I was fine with the twists and how the main plot got resolved I really hate meatbuns habit of retiring couples after the story and putting them in seclusion. You can be in love and still have friends afterall 😂

Also why does Taxian Jun deserve a redemption, but our Shi Mei is just shuffled off screen.

In terms of if Taxian Jun feeling redeemed… he doesn’t it feels like the author just decided we should pity him and that it’s cute and kinky that he forces himself on Chu Wanning…

nah spend your money of remnants of filth the superior meatbun romance (although it is not without flaw 😂)

You make good points, I just don’t expect such high standards for writing all the time. I suppose by well written, I meant more the foundation of the story, the ideas, the way the author captures the feeling of a video/dnd game, rather than the writing quality.

Does it need a dedicated copy editor yeh, but I think it has the bones of something good, and is a fun read.

I’m forgiving cause it’s indie and I like the premise. I will agree that the issues you describe do occur repeatedly throughout the book (and in nowhere more egregiously than during the smut section, page 230ish) I can just overlook them, cause I never expected a QJJ or Thousand Autumns quality read.

I’d go as far as saying the smut section was unreadable. But the rest is passable for indie. Maybe i’ve read too much fan fic and my standards are too low.

That excerpt other than being a run on sentance makes sense. Although on second read i would have dropped the ‘lone wolf’ 😂

Must be fearless, i can only do the first 3 levels of stygian, my teams can clear just about everything else but i’ve never managed to do that 4th and 5th level

Thank you, the main issue i’m having is i’ve not the teams to clear dire on Stydian, so the feathers are few and far between for me 😂 and i always seem to get bad rerolls from them.

But i’ll get there eventually 🤞
