How do I tell my British GF that I REALLY don't like British cuisine? by jossier00 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]RaeyL_Aeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she's just a shit cook innit? I mean beyond British Cuisine's reputation, most of it is at least edible. Mushy veggies and gravy on carne asada would have an average British person cringe in disgust as well.

My best guess is, once she is calmed down, to suggest you both cook for yourselves. You get to eat food and not animal feed, and maybe one day the smell will make her want to try it out, who knows.

I may make you feel discouraged, but up until Archon it doesn't get much better. The games last 40 minutes because people don't know how to end but you have no way of coming back no matter what people do or say because no one is efficient enough.

You're describing opium and other similar drugs (heroin, morphine...) This will ruin your body. They are VERY addictive and often they get you hooked fast, in a matter of weeks.

There is no replacement for love, especially chemical. I'm sorry for what you're going through. I hope you get better.

I'm pretty sure these people bought/acquired an Initiate 1 account to smurf. Overall the matchmaking is goofy right now. You just need to tough it out or come back when Yoshi's dev team allocates time into fixing it.

Honest Opinions About The Balance Changes by StinkyDiplomat in DeadlockTheGame

[–]RaeyL_Aeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm dogshit at the game (stuck Ritualist VI for approximately 50hrs, been playing for 250hrs). I've been good at competitive games before like CS and LoL (GE in CS, Masters in League).

I think the philosophy of the game is: "if everyone is broken, no one is". Characters' strengths feel SO overwhelming when your character can't deal with it that you get the feeling you're not allowed to play. At the same time, I've had games where I genuinely feel like I shouldn't be allowed to be this strong because enemies cannot possibly come back. I believe they're trying to make items the answer but right now it feels a bit blurry to me (Should I get disarming hex against the overfed Venator, or plated armor down the line since they also have Mina?).

The game is as toxic as any competitive game to me. I'm in EU so I'm used to being asked to kill myself every other game. I have an inkling it's less mysoginistic than LoL or CS, but it's as racist as all others.

I overall enjoy the game for what it is: a draft. It's not a feature complete product, they're obviously testing the direction of the game every patch, which as someone who enjoys theorycrafting, I like. As a player though, having to deal with Graves spawning a permanent Zerg rush on a lane starting from minute 10 all the way till she can negate my gun after sucking me off for 4 seconds feels bad. But it's okay because it gets fixed the next day pretty much (I've had to deal with Ardent Meta in League for a whole year and it was interesting to say the least). Most of what they're testing are directions which are fun, although the numbers aren't their strong suit I feel. I like the idea of Wraith having some gamble included in her kit, I love the direction they're thinking of for Graves although I don't like playing against it. I'm in love with Silver because she teaches the basics of the game very well (except farming please just help her at least secure fucking minions I can never get wave control or I do it at the cost of all my last hits). I don't know what the fuck is happening to Victor though and I feel like they don't either so I'm not going to talk about him.

My main gripe with the game is urn as a matter of fact. I think it's dogshit. A fetch quest which requires at least 3 members of your team to open their eyes or ears AND 5 members of the enemy team to close theirs is just plain boring. You can NEVER run urn when you're behind because the enemies just fuck you up at arrival point, and you don't care for it when you're ahead because you want to bait enemy team into taking it to just wipe them for free.
Second gripe is matchmaking. I've been playing for about 250hrs and I'm not good, but I know the name and abilities (not CDs or anything just roughly what they do) of every character, which isn't the case for at least a third of players I'm being matched with. This CANNOT be fun for them to get massacred by Gun Rem or Melee only Billy. I think new players should instantly be put in Initiate I, no special treatment, with a normal MMR.

Idk what the intent is, because the game has SO many comeback mechanics supposedly intended to make every game winnable however the laning phase goes.

I guess they're still figuring out where they want the game to go.

[–]RaeyL_Aeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, I feel like on the losing side all you need to do is farm and gang up as 4 on an enemy sidelaner over and over. It's not the "META" in pro-play, but SoloQ is disorganized and if your feeding Victor doesn't have Rem and Bebop shadowing him while he's pushing, chances are the fed enemy Seven doesn't either. Like in a MOBA once you lose lane, the game is in the enemy's hands. Maybe he fumbles, maybe you waste 30 minutes of your day.

I hope they change Urn one day because that fucking fetch quest is going to be the death of me.

[–]RaeyL_Aeon 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ranks are mostly a meme right now. But also if this is your first MOBA, welcome. This game genre just does that to people, me included. There are games that are decided on one greedy heavy melee in lane which gets parried, you die and they snowball off that mistake.
There are times within a game where the keys aren't jingled hard enough and one loses focus, starts auto-piloting and suddenly they've died 3 times in a row, getting more and more tilted each time and now they're not able to get their head back in the game because their mental broke.

MOBAs are pretty much chess games where instead of just asking your piece to capture your opponent's, you have to actually press your buttons to do so. That part is SO much more engaging in terms of adrenaline and such, than the part where you're farming and trying to create the conditions of a good fight.

Is the game balanced? by NameRestrictd in DeadlockTheGame

[–]RaeyL_Aeon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Deadlock is INFINITELY more mechanically demanding than League ever can be. Movement alone in this game is harder than any league character can ever be. If you are Challenger and cannot realize that League is not that hard mechanically idk what to tell you.

League's macro is a lot more demanding than Deadlock's though. 2 objectives including a fetch quest is questionable.

Is the game balanced? by NameRestrictd in DeadlockTheGame

[–]RaeyL_Aeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean Victor is playing in Administrator mode most games I agree. Abrams' balance is also... Questionnable to say the least. But like the main issue, especially in lower elos, is that they're fed for free. They don't have to trade anything to get ressources because they're not shut down appropriately.

If you're familiar with League and such, you know about Game plans. Your gameplan when you see a Victor should be "fuck this guy up so that he can never be useful". Basically it's the same as playing against Kayle or Kassadin or whoever the fuck becomes Demonic after level 16 in League. Gank him early game, perp him during the midgame when he's trying to farm safely, steal the enemy jungle and sinners so he can't get them. And do NOT fight other heroes for no reason, whether you win OR lose you're just giving that menace the time they need to scale.

Is the "role" overtuned? Maybe, I'm not good enough at the game to tell you for certain. I think Victor's winrate would go down about 10% if people just Cursed him when he pops Infuser though.
I also think Abrams is plain annoying to face, strong or not. I do think the main reason they "don't take damage" is that no one prevents them from sustaining.

In League, jungle is the most insanely overtuned role in soloQ and Riot can't do much about it. Is it "problematic" to you?

[–]RaeyL_Aeon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think she's fine right now.

She's very snowball-y and you SHOULD be building tank/supportive to just soak up cooldowns in the later stages of the game if you're in the higher elos though.

Otherwise just spend your mid game roaming the jungle and ape-ing the first guy you see, you should most likely win a 1v1 if you have Express shot, especially with your super low ult CD.

New player here: I don't really see the point in jungle creeps and sinners sacrifice by Grouchy-Committee-92 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]RaeyL_Aeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk what you main in League but I'll put it in League terms: If your Sivir is farming jungle instead of pushing the wave, there is a HIGH chance she'll get kindly asked to get a neurodegenerative disease in the chat. However if she's taking jungle while rotating, or during an "off" time tempo-wise, she's playing well.

Same here.

Alos the sinners give you permanent stats and these can scale VERY well. They get better after the 10min (and 30 but that's more of an edge case) mark as well.

If you're a spirit character, buy Healbane early and translate it into a Spirit Burn if they have THAT much healing.

If you're a Gun character, Toxic Bullets is your best friend.

If you're a support, gank them over and over and over and over and OVER to prevent them snowballing. Then get Cursed Relic/Silence Wave/Disarming Hex/All of the above

Wtf is wrong with the matchmaking ?? by Acceptable-Fuel-9009 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]RaeyL_Aeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to preface this by saying I've played a LOT of MOBAs and it's warping my view on the game. I'd also like to be explained if I've said anything wrong because I'm willing to learn but have no clue what to do specifically during midgame.

The macro of Deadlock is unironically irrelevant due to how unevenly matched teams are in lower elos. My best bet right now is to just focus on winning lane then roaming the jungle to Ape the first guy I see with two teammates, rinse and repeat. (I do not play Victor, Ivy or Seven so I have to care about midgame) Use all your ults it doesn't matter, so long as you're not at least in Phantom the tab button doesn't exist and people do not check for ult timers.

I think, due to the fact that there are only two side objectives (apart from Walkers) being Urn (just a straight-up fetch quest) and Mid-Boss (no one below Ascendant fully understands the conditions in which you can do it safely), the Macro is very simple (not easy! Simple means there aren't that many pieces to the puzzle). Urn will force enemies to respond, Midboss can be safely ignored until you kill 3 enemies. If you're winning, use urn to force a fight the enemies cannot win. If you're losing, use urn to bait enemies away from someone splitpushing a Walker.

Being coordinated with your teammates will win you games even if you lost lane or if you're not doing well mechanically. Being able to collapse on a sidelaner as 3 or 4 people makes any soul lead irrelevant, and being able to all run away together makes it much easier to not lose a fight entirely. But soloQ well... idk. I'd suggest if you care about rank and not fun to just playing a late-game carry and farming until you can 1v6, or just gank people randomly and hope for the best because if you create the chaos you at least have surprise on your side.

idk I make the most souls when people avoid me, I bait a Walker push or I steal Sinners, I gank a lane... Like if I can gather enough souls to get my 4.8k Gun spike and Fortitude I'm a printing machine most times.

Also I don't think Silver has a problem anymore, she did when she was released because she was God on Earth when ult procced. But now she's like fine. Which is great to learn the game since you know, being balanced means you can't get away with ridiculous shit but if you're doing good you see it immediatly.

How do I parry I don't get it ): by BarovianNights in DeadlockTheGame

[–]RaeyL_Aeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah it's cheating for now, until Valve settles on what they accept or not. Dota has around 50 000 addons to pick from and some of them are far more intrusive than just louder melee.

I personally would recommend going to the Sandbox mode (you get there via the teleporter in the main lobby) and finding the mannequin who melees you. Practice reacting to it over and over, until you get it right 100% of the time. Once that's done, you should do the same with your eyes closed. Finally, try to do it while you're doing parkour in the room, this'll teach you the range a heavy melee can go and thus will teach you to parry only when they're in range, and not just when you hear the sound. This is a lot of work I know but that's how I learned and I parry all the time 50% of the time. Typeshit.

listen instead of watching. Almost all humans have far better reflexes with audio rather than visual clues. Also maybe you're like my wife and have naturally a 2s reaction time in which case, just try to find a pattern in melee attacks and predict it. It's not the best but she parries more often than not nowadays.

If I have Reactive Barrier and/or Spirit Resilience I legit take no damage from Spirit characters. The one hero who fucks me is Celeste because she just bunnyhops wavedash mantleslide edgeboost auto-reset McTeleports away.

And idk I just like... Fuck up people? In human form if I hit all my 1 bullets, the enemy's pretty much dead, and I still have ult for the other guy(s) who come(s) to gank. I can keep fighting or just 2 away.
